  1. Kind of amazing that this survived. COLOR footage from a 1960 Plymouth variety special, hosted by Steve Allen. Tony is in very good voice here. He was at the top of his game, and the Beatles hadn't come along to ruin everything the way they would in another four or five years.
  2. Cleo Laine - Woman to Woman (Fontana, stereo). Arrangements by Dave Lindup. Includes the tune "Peel Me a Grape" by Dave Frishberg.
  3. It is currently under $100 on US Amazon. Great to know this exists, but I'm feeling strapped for cash lately.
  4. Cool! Is it from one of those Euro PD labels?
  5. The Blue Stars of France - Lullaby of Birdland (Emarcy, mono) With Blossom Dearie and Christiane Legrand.
  6. That is IMO one of the greatest jazz soundtracks. It was released on Kapp, but there was a limited edition expanded CD a few years back, from Intrada.
  7. Are you familiar with his playing on Kenyon Hopkins' The Hustler?
  8. Did anyone ever hear his Triple Play album for Audio Fidelity? Jazz in one speaker, pop in the other, or you can listen to both at once!
  9. Irony on the part of the establishment, or on the part of the organissimo member who suggested this? Or both/either?
  10. I have this! That place looks like it would have served top-shelf rum cocktails!
  11. TV '67! (Wyncote, mono) No artists listed.
  12. The Stan Getz and Bud Shank Michel Legrand albums, combined onto a single disc in the Legrand Anthology box set.
  13. Watching now on ESPN 2. The race is delayed because of rain. The wet roads remind me of the artwork on my Aurora Model Motoring set I got for Christmas in 1969!
  14. Never saw this before!
  15. Larry wrote that "I've now become a Smulyan fan, despite my former comments, which you recall accurately. We live and learn. I should add that IMO Smulyan has grown a fair bit over the years." What does he need to clarify for you?
  16. Yeah, I get that. But the tour bus tapes seem to have penetrated pop culture beyond jazz circles. Even the guy who made the tapes later pointed out that Buddy was right, if not exactly diplomatic.
  17. Unless she releases remastered versions of the tour bus tapes!
  18. Well, that's good. I'll check out the Kim Fowley track.
  19. Interesting! To my ears, on "The Beat Goes On," she sounds like she would rather be anywhere than singing this song with her Dad. The opposite of Nat Adderley, Jr. with his Dad and Uncle!
  20. I have this. Is this the LP where Buddy's daughter is forced at gunpoint to sing "The Beat Goes On?"
  21. Am I misremembering, or did I read in Straight Life that Art Pepper played Vegas, maybe with Buddy Rich?
  22. These must have been sweet gigs, provided you didn't have any gambling or alcohol addictions.
  23. Did any semi-famous jazz players end up backing up folks like Frank, Tony, or Jack Jones?
  24. From the InterWebz: The name Fishtown derives from one of the original occupations of its residents. Early settlers were fishermen, and over time they controlled the fishing rights to both sides of the Delaware River, from Cape May to the falls at Trenton.
