  1. How to (re)use a Blue Note United Artists cover (Stairway to heaven).
  2. when the levee breaks...
  3. I think that all those independant labels such as Blue Note, Riverside, Prestige, etc were managed approximately the same way. It would be interesting to know what are actually the managment method of a record company to have an idea of all the others. Surprisingly, nobody ever asked about it to Lion Wolff, Weinstock, Keepnews, Grauer when they were still alive : for sure they all had anwers to those endless questions...
  4. Spinned it today, too ! Nice record. But i always have trouble with the tuning of Gonsalves (same in "Tell it the Way it is")
  5. It has been said on various sources that poor sellers (and now rare) like BLP 1568 were initially pressed at around 2000 copies. Larry Cohn wrote me that Joe Henderson told him that he had sold around 2000 copies of its own Blue Note albums...
  6. Oh yes! It's more fun than just watching them! For sure this is the best question posted on this site EVER. And the best answer, too.
  7. .En espanol, no se dice "pobracita" sino "pobrEcita". Tampoco se traduce "poor babyS" sino "poor baby".
  8. One morning last year i found my 1 1/2 years old daughter "playing" with my original copy of "After Hours" (prestige 7118)... She was trying to pull the record out of the cover... When i realise that she was able to access to the collection, and moved all the shelves in another room. Since now she knows that "its forbidden to touch dad's discs"
  9. Another bunch of "rare" Blue Note this week on Ebay. Mr Japaneses, set you E-Snap on "more than 1 k"
  10. John Williams trio on Emarcy or DG LP. Brilliant.
  11. in this post, you can replace the names of artist or label by any other : then you'll have the story of each and every jazz amateur/ collector...
  12. George Wallington "Jazz for the Carriage Trade" Prestige 7032, yellow NY lbl. A great Phil Woods...

    Rocky Boyd

I think many of you knowledgeable jazz know the funny story about "Rocky Boyd" being in fact a "nom de date" for John Coltrane. it is based on the fact that "Why Not" on his unique record (Ease It) really sounds like "Impressions" (i confirm ! ). But does anybody knows more about him ? especially what he became after his unique effort....
  14. Really? I thought he was great on a gig some months back with Tony Malaby and Brian Allen. I saw him performing with Andre Jaume, and was bored by his drumming. Really. It was both noisy and without power. I talked to a friend which also was in the attendance : we shared the same opinion after the set. But to be honest i also heard very elogious comments this night.
  15. I've recently found (at bargain price) a NM original RLP 264 (Johnny Griffin Sextet) at a flea market. Anyway it has no cover (it was carefullly packed in a standard white one). So i'm looking for an original laminated with the 553 adress on back. If someone has one... Of course , i would prefer it NM to match the record...but i think a VG+ would also fill the bill.
  16. Tom Rainey is good on some records, but on stage, i really did not like his sound and his approach of drumming.
  17. I would recommend to avoid buying thoses Horo on Ebay. You'll probably find most of them, but Ebay has the same price gouging effect. Its easy to find most titles on record shops for decent prices. If you are in the US, try to contact some serious european internet sites shops. Or Musicstack, Gemm....
  18. I agree for "dance cadaverous" and "infant eyes" . And also for "Little One" and "Dolphin dance"...except that it is George Coleman on Tenor.
  19. i DO treat my original records same as Mosaics. (Anyway i do not have Mosaics box LP sets
  20. I use those 2 boxes
  21. Zoot Sims "Zoot" on Argo LP608 (black lbl DG flat). Sweet and swinngin'. A sublime version of "Bohemia after dark".
  22. Sometimes i wonder if the poly sleeves we use to protect covers do accelerate the yellowing (because acidity ? ) Any opinion/ knowledge ?
  23. . But if the reason is purely chemical (does not depends on storage or smoke) why are some covers yellowed, and some not ?
  24. All my Lps are stored in the dark, actually, but don't you think that the INK used on graphics and notes tends to fox - to burn, in fact - the paper in itself ? This effect would be combined with the light. And regarding the excess of sun in France...this october would probably be suitable for the yellowing of covers...
