look at this - how to buy a essential jazz collection
michel1969 replied to jbs-tom's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
No picture, rude guy, no response to questions (i tried)... This seller could have been the kind of seller i used to deal with in France before Ebay... everything was dubious from the beginning. The worst of Ebay. And the worst of the worst : someone probably made the "buy it now offer" off ebay...Good riddance. -

I'd like to bid on one or two... just for the fun, because when "rainbow mountain" or "pauls456" are interested, therE is not even the ghost of a chance ! These esnipers prevent me to even bid on items. -

Agree with that... same old hysteria, with same esnipers, same music, same records seen a hundred times, (all are very rare, the occansion of a lifetime etc etc etc...) same japaneses / taiwanese / coreans etc... no description of the records, no picture, unpolite answers to questions '"yes mate" "nope mate !". The worst in Ebay auction is here. -
Yeah, the CD of "Riot" sucks. There's such a thing as "lo-fi," and then there's crappy 80s remastering. This has both, and it sounds awful. If this comes to pass, I will welcome it with open arms. I bought my copy of Riot in Japan, its a Japanese edition (ESCA 7632) and i like ths sound, anyway i don't know whether its the same remastering you mention or another one. I'll second everything i read on this thread. i'm not a big fan of the two first albums. Riot is a fantastic one, the one to have. And after, Stand, an Fresh.

Minnie Riperton "Adventures in Paradise" "Will you come inside me... Do you wanna ride.... Inside my love...." Well, is this is a proposition ? I Minnie Riperton. Gone, but not forgotten.

Still lookin' for Debut in Blues. Good luck! You'll probably not need to spend a lot ! Found my NM copy at 19.99 $ on Ebay.

i ordered this book on november 12, with great hopes that i would have it by now. today i received an e-mail telling me that the new shipment estimate is jan. 8-22, 2007!! what a bummer! I had the same information, but from the day i ordered on (end of november)... I can't wait, anyway. -
I will listen to my copy of this one... it hasnt seen the light of the day for a looooong time. This morning : Donald Byrd : Royal Flush original NY USA mono and later Free Form NY USA mono all two

Another one way ticket to Japan, (and probably a heavy one !) The cover is stunning anyway... quite approriate to stimulate the potential hysteria of the Esnipers. i wouldn't be surprised if it goes for more than 1,5 k http://cgi.ebay.com/LEE-MORGAN-SEXTET-Orig...1QQcmdZViewItem

Mc Lean : Right Now Coltrane : Blue train Mobley : Soul Station Dorham : @ the Bohemia Shorter : Juju Eric Dolphy : Out to Lunch Young : Unity La Roca : Basra Mobley : Dippin Donald B : Free Form. I stop here before i change my mind....

Candid , yes i'll second that (Mingus, Booker Ervin, Toshiko + Mariano...) ! and Epic (Charlie Rouse, Phil Woods, Dave bailey ! ) and Jazzland (Don Sleet, René Thomas) and Riverside (countless) and Prestige (Mobleys, Bryant, Burrell, Flanagab + countless) and Savoy (Detroit jazzmen) and many others ! and Atlantic (Candoli levy, Fruscella, Konitz, Montrose) and Mode (Marsh, Kamuca) and Jubilee (Herb Geller)....
-
I don't know to what extend this or this particular title is overrated...Everyone has his list (Mobley's Dippin', for exmple is one of my all tme favourite Jazz LP's) Anyway, i think that there are many recordings from artists that are regarded with more interest BECAUSE they are on Blue Note. The opposite, is : some fantastic jazz record are underrated, BECAUSE they are on labels that are less estimated than Blue Note. For example : Don Sleet "All members" and René Thomas "Guitar Groove" are extraordinary hard bop sessions, IMO, but they do not have the attention they deserve, BECAUSE they are ONLY on Jazzland. Of course this does not mean noboby pays attention on them. But compare their price on the collector market with Blue Note from the same era and you'll see what i mean. Their is no particular hysteria on R. Thomas or Don Sleet.

I suppose its a joke. http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-vinyl-of-John...1QQcmdZViewItem

My pal Greg bought his VG+ copy for $1 at Ashby BART Station Flea Market. Well, you can tell your friend that someone here is ready to buy him and pay 10 times this price !
-
Right also. Except for "Point of departure".

RIGHT ! The very top Sam Rivers on Blue Note is Contours. Rivers complained years afters that when he went in the studio, Lion and Wolff were afraid by the modern and "avant garde" material he prepared for the date. So they ask him to record some more "classical" things. And Rivers said that Fuschia was actually made of his 1955 compositions and conceptions, rather than the actual (1964-1965) that he planed to record.

I've always found Walking and Talking, BLP 4010, a boring one. I even sold my copy of this one.
-
No DG, but its written "Blue Note", right ? lets go for 400 !! http://cgi.ebay.com/BLUE-NOTE-BLP-4024-47-...1QQcmdZViewItem I think i'll sell my NM DG and buy Velvet acetate. Or maybe a Boeing 777.

Another "rare" (the third in three weeks on Ebay) that will of course, go to Japan at, of course, more than 1500 $ by, of course, an "Esnipe" specialist.... same old story. http://cgi.ebay.com/JACKIE-McLEAN-The-New-...1QQcmdZViewItem meanwhile, Doug is back... perhaps Akira did not found it mint enough : http://cgi.ebay.com/WATKINS-AT-LARGE-TRANS...1QQcmdZViewItem

I like the canadian capitols i have (A Chaloff and a Rosolino) : they are deep groove (not the US) and sound quite good. The Epic are not as good as the US countreparts Regarding those two lables, the record plants are different, IMO. Same as Savoy (london).

At least the guy is polite.

That is why we should privately share our list. On every commercial transaction, i can have an opinion, and share it privately with someone. Why not with record sellers (or bidder) ? Anyway this thread proves that the Ebay feedback and rating system is not reliable (and all my scratched records and seam splitted covers think so ! ).
