  1. There's a really nice piece by ELP, "The Three Fates", that's not on that best-of collection. The first ELP album is quite good. Their later material is much more erratic. Guy
  2. THE LAKERS Personally I enjoy seeing them lose, but they needed to beat the Clips to help the Warriors' chances. Moral of the story: never root for "The Little Satan" again. Guy ps Props to Patrick for calling the AI/AM trade way-back-when.
  3. Boy, do I miss reading the politics forum... Guy
  4. Nobody here's commented on this, I don't think, but: 76ers record with AI in the lineup: 5-10 76ers record since AI/Andre Miller trade: 27-26 This is actually a decent team. Somebody predicted the AI-AM trade would make the 76ers much better when the trade happened. In fact, that guy predicted that the 76ers would finish 35-47! Moral of the story: replacing a chucker with a good point guard is good for your team. Guy
  5. "The Barbarian", "Take a Pebble", "Knife Edge", "Trilogy", and "The Endless Enigma" are pretty good as well. Guy
  6. 1) It's sad that this pseudo-controversy passes for news these days. 2) This isn't a constitutional "free speech" issue -- Imus can make racist/sexist comments whenever he wants, but CBS/whoever has the right to fire him. 3) That said, perhaps this is an overreaction. 4) I wouldn't worry about Imus. People bounce back from these kinds of things. Guy
  7. What do people think of this group? I'm listening to Looking Thru -- it's a little cheesy, but not without redeeming features. Very 70s. I would probably judge it more harshly if Chick Corea or Joe Zawinul were involved. Guy

It took me a while to "warm" (ha ha) to the ballads on Belonging. They are terrific. Seeds of Time is a nice record by a good group, but not life-changing. Jewel in the Lotus is fantastic. Guy
  9. Top 10 Shawn Kemp Dunks of All Time I thought #3 and #2 were pretty spectacular. Guy Edit: My brother wrote the following commentary on the clip:
  10. re: Smile -- Is it worth looking for bootlegged versions of the '66-'67 sessions? I listened to the 2004 version and it's nice, but I kept wishing for a more authentic, less plastic sound. Guy
  11. I'm with kh1958. I don't like seeing jazz in concert halls, though I prefer those over a noisy club where I can't hear the music. Guy
  12. Hopefully, Rudy will continue to remaster these Prestige titles as they are certainly just as deserving as the Blue Notes are. Deserving of what? His initials on the packaging? Guy
  13. I haven't picked up any... figured this was 80% marketing gimmick and there's a lot of other music I haven't heard yet. Guy
  14. Warriors tied with the Clips for 8th place!* Only two games behind the Lakers! *But Clips have the tiebreaker.
  15. Thanks, Ghost -- that was fascinating. Guy
  16. I have Another Green World -- it's fantastic. I need to check out more of his solo work. I also like his second album w/Roxy Music -- For Your Pleasure. Guy
  17. I dug out Here Come the Warm Jets after it had been collecting dust for a few years. Such a great album! I really need to get more of his stuff. BLANK FRANK! I haven't heard his collaborations w/David Bowie. Guy
  18. Does anybody else follow John Hollinger's power rankings? I wonder whether we should take them seriously. I suppose we'll find out in the post season. (The Spurs are #1 by a large margin.) Guy
  19. This looks pretty bad...
  20. Preliminary verdict -- not bad, but these guys have made better albums. This version of "In Remembrance of Things Past" is not nearly as good as the one on Trioism, though it is one of the best things on here.
  21. I wonder how many hits he can take. With his style of play, he gets beat up more than most stars. Hopefully they'll be taking some good whacks at him. Guy
  22. In my experience, there isn't much talking at the major NYC clubs. I find it to be irritating when it happens. Guy
  23. I've always assumed that getting holes-in-one was pure luck. I wonder if there is any way to measure whether, once you control for better golfers' skill at getting the ball to the correct general area of the hole, they are any better at getting holes in one. Guy
