  1. It looks like the media is getting a little carried away with all the Kobe accolades. He's been playing fantastic, but all the wins his team has produced during this period have been against mediocre/crappy teams. It's not going to amount to much in a 7 game series against the Suns or Spurs. Guy
  2. Mutual funds are actually a pretty horrible investment in the long run. I assume you aren't including index funds in that category. Guy
  3. Does anybody else find Alex Blake's singing during his bass solos to be annoying? I thought it was somewhat disrespectful that he did this behind Billy Harper's playing... Guy
  4. You might like Colin Moulding's voice, he sings about 20-30% of their music. I could see how some people would consider Andy Partridge whiny or annoying. Guy
  5. I dug out Skylarking on a whim after a long period of not listening to it. What an album! I've been listening to it non-stop. With all due respect to Andy Partridge, who wrote some great songs for this album, Colin Moulding might've bested him here. Apparently Colin is no longer interested in writing music. Guy edit. From wikipedia (at least Dave Gregory is back on board. hooray!):
  6. This is on somewhat short notice, but I am going to tomorrow's (Friday) Randy Weston + Billy Harper gig 7:30 PM at the Jazz Standard. Anybody else want to meet up for the gig? Guy
  7. I settled on the FCE Ultra emulator for the NES. No problems so far, except I'm totally addicted to playing these games! I've never played Contra. Guy
  8. You know, I've never played the original Zelda. I guess I now have the chance... As soon as I beat Star Tropics. Guy
  9. I'm currently wrapping up season 1 of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. "Duet" was fantastic. Guy
  10. I was talking with a friend last night about the good old NES. I remember bugging the hell out of my parents to buy me one in '88 or '89. I spent so many hours playing it. Favorite games: Super Mario Bros 2 & 3, StarTropics (underrated), MegaMan, Metroid, Zelda 2. Any recommendations for emulators? Guy
  11. For all the talk about Gilbert Arenas being an MVP candidate earlier in the season, the Wizards are just an "OK" team. Truly great players make their teams great. Sorry Gilbert... Guy
  12. I've always liked Ralph Gleason's notes to Bitches Brew, though I'm not a huge fan of his liner notes in general. Guy
  13. The former model who is now a Lakers scout.
  14. I really laughed at this one, though I have to admit it's a little sad. Guy
  15. Getting spanked by Orlando at home is quite sad. Guy
  16. I watched this game at the Excalibur (Vegas) today. It was so hard to find a tv playing it -- all these stupid college games. The west's top 4 have looked pretty shaky over the past week or so. Whether getting blown out two games in a row (Phoenix), losing two games in a row (Dallas, San Antonio), losing FOUR games in a row (Utah road trip), or losing home games to crappy teams (San Antonio). On the other hand, Houston won by 50 pts today. Warriors still holding onto playoff spot #8. The schedule gets a little tougher at this point, though. Guy
  17. Agreed. Guy
  18. "The Marine Biologist" the Keith Hernandez incident
  19. If you've never watched "The Contest" (series classic), it's on youtube. Guy
  20. The Lakers are getting their clocks cleaned by Denver. Is Marcus Camby the oldest-looking player in the NBA? Guy
  21. Here's a clip of Pink Floyd playing "A Saucerful of Secrets" at Pompeii. Classic, their music didn't get much better than this! Dig Roger Waters attacking that gong. Guy
  22. Conrad, Happy birthday! guy
  23. That was a great game. I wouldn't get too carried away overanalyzing one game -- I'm sure that if the Mavs & Suns meet in the conference finals, we'll have at least two or three of these crazy games. Guy
