  1. And with that Bowen 3-pointer, this game is over. Guy
  2. If Detroit gives up more than 34 pts in the second half, game over. Guy

  5. Crazy. Are they going to play a full concert, or just a 30 minute set of "Wish You Were Here", "Money", "Another Brick in the Wall", and "Comfortably Numb"?

  7. I'm digging Far Cry and thinking, maybe blasphemously, that I like this a little better than the vols 1 & 2 from the Five Spot. Am I totally offbase here? Maybe it's just a bias for Jaki over Mal, I don't know. To some degree Out to Lunch has spoiled Eric's other recordings as a leader for me. Not that there isn't lots of great music on those. Guy
  8. wow... I've been listening to the May 1971 Fillmore West gig that was just seeded on DAD -- it's one of THE BEST gigs I've heard by this band (I'll admit I've only heard 10 or so, though). Up there with the Cellar Door 12/1970 stuff, the groove is tighter and funkier though. And totally confirms my prejudice on the Ndugu/Jack question. Guy
  9. I thought this article, "Fire Music", was pretty interesting. I'll have to check out the venue they talk about some time:

  11. You know, if more musicians made noise as good as Ornette and Dolphy's, the world would be a much better place. Guy
  12. I like Volume 2 ("Benedictine Chant in a Jazz Club") a little better. Guy
  13. Oh, I didn't mean to dis IE -- it's my favorite 'Joe as a leader on BN', a real classic. (I agree about "El Barrio" being awesome!) And I didn't mean to dis Joe's earlier music on BN either. It's just that one when I listen to his playing on "Passion Dance", or "Zoltan", or "Freedom Jazz Dance" (from Infinite Search) -- well, he was just getting started on Inner Urge. Guy
  14. You might check out Henderson's INNER URGE, also. It was recorded 2 1/2 years before THE REAL McCOY and both feature Joe, McCoy and Elvin in a quartet. ← I'd say the McCoy album is a little better, if only because the three key participants had grown a lot as musicians in the interim. Joe in particular was just starting to hit his stride when Inner Urge was recorded, IMHO. Guy
  15. I agree -- his playing was better before and after that album. Guy
  16. A series that went to 7 games, with the last game being decided by 4 or 5 pts and Wade being hobbled by an injury. No. Guy
  17. These PRETZELS are making me THIRSTY!!!!!
  18. In the spring of 2001 I went through my first BN binge, and this was one of the CDs I purchased. But the one that really turned my head as far as Joe's playing was concerned was The Real McCoy. It's kind of weird but I feel like BN reduced their pace of Joe-recording just as he was hitting his stride -- my favorite Joe is from late '64 onward. Guy
  19. With a healthy Wade, the Heat led the series 3-2. After he got injured, they got blown out in game 6 and barely lost game 7. With him healthy, the probability that they would have won one of those two is pretty high. Again, not taking away anything from the Pistons' victory in the last round -- just stating a fact. Guy
  20. I agree -- the Pistons probably wouldn't have won the Heat series without Wade's injury. If they can induce a Duncan injury, they might have a decent chance of winning another title. Guy ← Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo, waa, waaaaa, You guys need to quit crying about injuries, it happens to every team in every sport; not just your team that lost. Remember Rip had a nagging injury the first four games. Watch ESPN sometimes, the classic NBA games and you will see teams winning WITH injured important players. so just stop the "if so and so wasn't hurt, we woulda won. All that woulda, shoulda, coulda stuff is very very OLD. Bruce, I'm not complaining -- just stating the facts. Guy
  21. A few things that are really cool with this album: * the beginning of Wayne's solo on "Fall" -- beautiful * Herbie's solo on "Madness", which starts as sort of a collective improv for the piano trio, then you have Tony prompting the band back into brisk walk. * "Riot" is unusual -- they could do "compact" too. Totally different from how the band approached this tune live. Guy
  22. I agree -- the Pistons probably wouldn't have won the Heat series without Wade's injury. If they can induce a Duncan injury, they might have a decent chance of winning another title. Guy
  23. Oh, did you have to be so damned realistic about it? Of the three players you mention, I think Fisher is the most expendible. He was really erratic this year. Foyle is a decent defensive role player, Who's being paid $6/year! If the W's gave him away for nothing they'd be better off. Not a bad player, but I'm not so psyched about a 3-pt shooting power forward who has no inside game and can't play defense. He's overpaid too, not as badly as Foyle though. Fisher is alright, like these other two he's overpaid. He's a TERRIBLE point guard, but ever since Baron came in and he became the backup shooting guard he's played better. Guy

I guess I'll put in a "nay" -- I 'd much rather have releases of live recordings than a box of either currently available material or stuff that remained in the can because it wasn't good enough. Though I'll admit I never bothered to download the music that akanalog is talking about, so maybe my uninformed assessment is wrong. Guy
  25. Do they call it acid jazz because of the substances necessary to appreciate the cover art? Guy
