  1. That's cool. For me it would be Bruce Springsteen. I don't find him unlistenable, or a hack, I just don't get "The Boss" hype. I do really dig the shit out of Streets Of Philadelphia, though. As for Bowie, I'm not a huge fan, but generally like his music. Fame and I'm Afraid Of Americans are both top shelf tunes, IMO.
  2. Yeah, but to the record company's credit, the cardboard sleeve didn't stick around all that long. They quickly gave way to the reusable, locking plastic deelywobs.
  3. You'd be getting yourself a HELL of a player if it happens. He might be the hardest working, and most humble man in the game. Highly touted coming out of college as a star third baseman. He struggled in his early years, and then had a monster hip injury. He rehabbed like a beast to get back in the field, but the injury had taken away his ability to play third. So he went back to AAA to learn how to play left field as a last ditch attempt to save his career. The rest is history. We'll miss him around here, but we understand the reality of being a small market team. And we can't afford to get caught up in long-term, high dollar contracts.
  4. Yeah, well…"experts" said last year that we jumped the gun, and paid too much, when we signed Kendrys Morales. Seems that worked out pretty goddamn nicely for us. So take what any of them say with a grain of salt, then wait and see for yourself.
  5. What's with all the jewel case hate? Yeah, I've got the odd few with broken teeth and or cracked faces. But that would account for less than 1% of my collection. I wish I didn't have them around these days, but it has nothing to do with the type of case...
  6. Or perhaps, and possibly a really, really big perhaps, Wooley simply wanted to play this music. People needing to attach all kinds of nefarious reasons to it says more about them then it does him.
  7. Other ways, yes. Regardless, if you refuse to buy the album you're still taking far more money out of the hands of Wooley than you are Marsalis. That was my only point.
  8. Mmmmmmm... Maria Schneider... Soooooooo yummy... *poof* Wait, what were we talking about again?
  9. Always enjoy reading yet another outburst from our resident cartoon character...
  10. I haven't checked, but it should be on Spotify. Only problem I have with going that route is that you're taking more money out of Wooley's hands than Wynton's. I mean, hey, it's your conscience and your money. But, the little bit that kicks back to Wynton in royalties will be of far less consequence to him than the lot more that Wooley collects will mean to him. Just a thought.
  11. Thanks for sharing that, med. I may have to get this album just because the hype and the backlash are intriguing. I did hear some bits and pieces from it, and it didn't strike me as either innovative or offensive, but more along the lines of what HP has been saying. A nice mainstream Jazz album.
  12. That's cool, Brad. I just asked because even though I'm pretty sure we won't get him back, there's been no word around here as to where he may potentially end up. Congrats on the Walker acquisition. I'll admit I know little about him, but it's always nice to know you've got your middle infielders shored up.
  13. As I said before, the quote function here is even more broken than it was before. Not surprised it's even worse on the moderator side.
  14. Got through the first "disc" of The Nows last night. Simply phenomenal stuff. Rather pricey on iTunes ($17.99), but possibly the best $17.99 I've spent on music in a really long time. Looking forward to burning through the second "disc" when I get home from work today. As for Wooley's technique, I'll your words for it that you've heard everything he did on that piece before. I certainly hadn't, but I bailed after 60's Free Jazz and never got into the free/European improv stuff, so I probably missed out in that regard.
  15. Interstellar was a fantastic movie, but I missed the Jazz music in it...
  16. I feel like I've been raped!
  17. Best of luck to you, Allen. Sounds like there is a bad combination of both physical and mental/emotional pain to deal with there. Not being an artist, I have no idea what the latter is like. But the former is something we've all experienced, at least to a certain degree. Either way, pain completely sucks ass, no matter what form it takes. I hope this momentary glitch in your life only serves to make you even stronger, in mind AND in body.
  18. Hahaha... Eric, I'm right there with you. The prevalence of the genre known as Sadcore really irritates the hell out of me. Doom and gloom singer-song writers seem to be quite the fad these days. I've got no time for all the whining and crying...
  19. Do you have it, HP? I've considered picking it up, but have yet to pull the trigger.
  20. That was a fantastic episode. What a great character, too. Kinda sucked that they wasted such an interesting character and actor on a single episode, but not being afraid to kill anyone off is part of what makes the show so good. Even though last season they really started relying on it as the main plot. But, last season was just fucking awful. The storyline with Glen this season really pissed me off, but they redeemed themselves in the revealing episode with the collapse of the old church. And the final scene of the final episode was incredibly well thought out. Not your cheap run-of-the-mill cliffhanger. Best season of the series by far, IMO. And from what those who have read the comics have told me, the best villain in the series will be introduced in the second half. I'm actually looking forward to it.
  21. Hahaha... At least someone has come to terms with reality.
  22. It had gone downhill to the point that I was going to bail, but I'm glad that I didn't because the first half of this season has been the high point of the entire series.
  23. Moon always makes some really interesting looking gear. I've not had the pleasure to hear any of it, but they certain have a unique look to them.
  24. You've got no high end stores in Kansas City? That's odd. St. Louis has at least one or two. And Lark, 11 iPods!!! You spent as much as those as most people do their entire listening system!
