Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)
Scott Dolan replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Audio Talk
Hahaha... At least someone has come to terms with reality. -
It had gone downhill to the point that I was going to bail, but I'm glad that I didn't because the first half of this season has been the high point of the entire series.

Moon always makes some really interesting looking gear. I've not had the pleasure to hear any of it, but they certain have a unique look to them. -

You've got no high end stores in Kansas City? That's odd. St. Louis has at least one or two. And Lark, 11 iPods!!! You spent as much as those as most people do their entire listening system! -
Yeah, Samardzija is a horse, but definitely a back of the rotation guy. He picked a pretty big fight with us last year, so I lost some respect for him. But he can definitely eat innings. Not a bad acquisition at all.

I wouldn't say "noticeable". Once you hit the, let's say, $1,000 mark the sound improvements become dramatically smaller and more incremental. Once you hit the $7,500-$10,000 range, you may as well just call it quits. After that you're adding grains of sand to an hour glass. If that. -
What is the current status of Spotify?
Scott Dolan replied to GA Russell's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
And that's exactly what I occasionally use it for as well, Larry. Now, in my case I tend to use the iTunes store because their samples are usually 1:30 instead of the seemingly standard :30 that most other sites offer. That's usually enough to inform my decision, but sometimes I may need to hear more. I'd say I use Spotify, maybe, three times a year. -

All for an audio system that may have a small improvement in performance over a $3,000, $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 system. Kinda sad more than anything. I'm glad I stopped chasing the rainbow before I started pissing away big time bucks. -
You'd better believe it.

Then don't use it. I don't, except on rare occasions. What they are doing is no different than what MANY apps and websites do. And if you don't give them your permission to do so, they don't. How devious. -

They will only collect data if you give them permission to. The story was a bit overblown by the media, surprise surprise. -
Greinke is a very odd duck. I knew he was all about the money when he left here. And he didn't really leave any friends behind. Not that he made many to begin with. A lot of people were shocked last year when he said he was rooting for the Giants in the World Series. Nope, that's just the kind of dick he is.

Greinke will be making $34.42mil a year in Arizona. Not surprising. I'm thinking Cueto will end up more around the $30mil mark with Price.

what are you drinking right now?

Dirty Bastard from Founders Brewing. 8.5% ABV. Warm and yummy. -
http://www.allmusic.com/album/live-trane-the-european-tours-mw0000591728 It took all the live Pablo releases and mixed them down to mono which got rid of all the incredibly nasty phase shifting and stereo channel warbling/dropouts. Sounds a thousand times better than the original Pablo releases I had, which were Bye Bye Blackbird, The Paris Concert, and Afro Blue Impressions.

Ubuntu did a release for Android-based portable devices, but Apple does not support it. You can jailbreak an iPad and try to get Ubunta to run on it, but you'll simply end up with the most unstable tablet on the planet even if you're tech savvy enough to make it work. Ubunta is for laptops and the erstwhile netbook, not for the iPad.

I understood it. When my son was an infant, the only way I could get him to take a nap was to crank up Coltrane's Live At Birdland. My wife would sit there and look at him in amazement and say "how can he SLEEP through this?!" As for this "new" edition, I'm not interested. The Deluxe version from over a decade ago is just fine. I'm out of the shelling out more bucks for the same shit I already have bait and switch garbage. Unless it's something that sounded pretty bad previously. Like The Olatunji Concert, for example. The Live Trane box is a good example of a release that GREATLY improved on the sound of the previous releases.

Wilson's barely have any HAF! I've heard they sound unbelievable, but even I wouldn't want such ugly fucking monstrosities in my home. -
Oh, I agree with that 100%. They've reach a nearly surreal level.

Defensive catchers are a premium. Besides, he'll end up playing plenty.

He only played 67 games last year due to injury. Aside from that he's a former All Star who brings a lot to the table as a backup catcher. It's a very good signing.

Plant City FL Here We Come?!
Scott Dolan replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The taxes in Florida aren't the best either. Even with homestead exemption we paid nearly twice in property taxes for our home in Plant City than we've ever paid here. And that was on a home valued at $35k less than our current home, and there is no homestead exemption in Missouri. -
Plant City FL Here We Come?!
Scott Dolan replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Not entirely sure, Dan. What I can tell you is that the place we rented when we first moved here was 3,000 sq ft on 10 acres, and he was selling that for $225k. Our current home is on a cul-de-sac at the end of town with nothing but Missouri farm land behind us. 2700 sq ft and we paid $135k. That same place in Plant City would easily cost twice that. You also have to keep in mind that owning property in mid Missouri is a huge difference from owning property on the I-4 corridor in central Florida. 10 acres in Florida is almost unheard of these days. Let alone on the biggest entertainment pipeline in the state!
