Do you know of any solid limb independence exercises? It's still my weakest aspect. I've found some decent ones online, but nothing that has completely unlocked it.

Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)
Scott Dolan replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Audio Talk
Yeah, I know. It's crazy. The drums sound HUGE and they were recorded in a 12ft x 20ft 1970's wood-paneled rec room with 7ft ceilings. It's amazing what you can do if you have the patience and knowledge. I believe it was Stefan Wood who was recently arguing with me that you can't build home studios that rival, or at least come adequately close enough, to professional studios. I know folks who have done it, and have read about many others. If you have the time, patience, and money it can be done. -
Exercise! You know, as much as I love music, and playing drums, THAT was the main emphasis of mine in getting back into them. It's the perfect storm, isn't it? Pleasurable experience, perfect way to blow off steam, AND a great cardiovascular workout. Not surprised that you mentioned that angle, but glad that you did, as I should have earlier. I spend a half hour going through the motions each afternoon, and build up quite a sweat doing so. Great feeling! What are some of your favorite tunes to play along to?
-
Those are three of his best albums. Good introduction.

Thanks, Lon! I really appreciate all of the input you provided. I think I'm going to have more fun teaching my son to play! Here's hoping that you also have an excellent holiday. I know it will be with heavy heart, but I hope not too heavy. If there is a heaven, you've earned your own private wing. I wish you and your father peace and joy.

R.I.P., Mr. Alfredson... If that comment doesn't have the wolves chomping on your ass it's only because they fear you as the owner of this site. *edit* Didn't mean to discount the rest of that excellent post, but I need to think a little more on the subject before offering up anything intelligent in response. Suffice it to say, I share your concerns. -
Yet another format so people will purchase the same music over again. Right!!! Makes you wonder what mythological "true original master" of Kind Of Blue will magically be discovered in a vault that no one knew existed until…well, just recently!

Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)

Yeah, I can see the point. I'm just not entirely convinced. Though, I have to ask, complacency in what respect? If the end user is still listening to the music and thoroughly enjoying it, does the consumption habit somehow change the entire dynamic? Hell, I'd even postulate that the ubiquity would lead to even greater consumption. What I mean is that end users would "grow tired" of a particular album faster, and by virtue of being able to easily move on, expand their listening base further and faster. That's not really a bad thing, is it? Mind expansion on fast forward? No, but texting sure as hell has! -
Welp, I did indeed end up going with the Alesis. The set is currently sitting in the drum room awaiting christmas morning. I wanted to purchase them through Musician's Friend since I've always had good luck with them, but they couldn't ship until next month. So, I ended up goings through zzounds, and would just like to say that if anyone is in the market for gear, I could not praise zzounds enough. No tax, $4.99 for 3-5 day shipping, and the kit was on my doorstep in two days. Very impressive! Only downside is that my drum throne will not be shipped until January 5th, but I have a folding chair that should be the perfect height and should suffice in the meantime. The itch continues to grow. Been air drumming my heart out every afternoon when I get home to try to get myself back into the groove. Been trying to teach my son a basic Rock beat, and never realized just how much coordination went into playing. He's really struggling with it, but he's really excited to learn how to play.

Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)
Scott Dolan replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Audio Talk
Yeah, that's been discussed at length, but I think it was in another thread. Possibly the Spotify thread. It probably is for younger generations that are coming up in this instant age, but I doubt it's changed for most of us "older" folks. Though, the term "devaluing" may be a bit strong. It's almost akin to saying that recording and mass distributing music devalued it back in the day. But did it? It changed consumption habits, to be sure. I'd think there were a bunch of curmudgeons sitting around back then saying, "these goddamn kids and their fancy phonographs don't appreciate the value of hearing a live performance!" -

Same with my 4th gen iPod Touch. It has taken up permanent residence in my glove compartment which has a plug in for iDevices. If I don't go anywhere over the weekend, the battery is dead when I leave for work Monday morning. -
The Spirit Of Christmas - Ray Charles My desert island Christmas album. And don't forget the Duke! Sugar, Rum, Cherry, baby!

I don't think there's a chance they go back to Hoyer, but wow, did Manziel look horrific. His mechanics and footwork looked as bad as I've ever seen. And what I saw yesterday does not look fixable. Cat's going to be an interception vending machine.

Well, let's not be too extreme here. It's his first start of his rookie season. Not exactly do or die.

Exercise Regimen - What You Got?

That's awesome, Patrick! And I'd call 70 miles with elevation changes pretty damned hardcore! Our weekend rides are anywhere from 22-40 miles. And that's with almost NO elevation change. That's enough for this old cat! -

Saw several eBay regular sellers earlier today say those aren't sold prices, just prices being asked for. And that if you look at sold products you'll see them still going for as little as $90. -

I had never even heard of the "muscle confusion" thing until late last week when I ran into a former co-worker who showed me some videos of different exercizes. And from what I saw they were not only way out of this old man's realm of possibility, but also potentially dangerous. -
Talking Heads, as well as David Byrne's solo material has been a favorite of mine for the last two plus decades.

I really need to revisit the live version. I actually only listened to it once or twice when that Deluxe Edition came out. I was so blown away by the superior sound of the studio recording that I kept returning to it. Which seems kinda dopey considering what a fireball that group was live, especially in '65.
-
Same here, but I've been coming around to finding them fairly equal to each other. Big step considering I used to think A Love Supreme was his most overrated album... Oddly enough, it was hearing Branford's quartet cover it on Footsteps Of Our Fathers that made me revisit it at the time. I have found it more impressive with each listen, although I'm still a huge First Meditations and Sun Ship guy.

I found that the battle of the midsection vs you really kicks off right around forty. And there's no slow build up to it. It's just open warfare right off the bat. I was blessed with a medium frame, and a still relatively high metabolism. But me against the waistline has been a blood bath for the past three or four years... So far I've had some narrow victories, but still winning the war…barely. -
That Caveman stuff is pretty damned good as well! Really outstanding recommendations, all.
-
That was outstanding! It really reminded me of Shut-In Tourist from Band Of Horses. Haven't heard the Caveman stuff yet.

I use kettle bells three to four times a week. I work on my feet all day, and am no lollygagger, so that's my aerobic workout. Did yoga for about a decade but haven't in recent years, but would like to start back up again. But, I'm staying in pretty good shape for a 44 y.o., at 5'11" and 190lbs. Been wearing a 32 waist for two decades now. Although, I used to roll out of bed and have a flat stomach. And while I still don't have a gut, it's not as flat as it once was and it's a constant mission to keep it that way. I figure as long as my chest sticks out further than the stomach, I'm still on the winning side of that battle. -
Jim, that's exactly how I feel about How Was Tomorrow from the Cash Brothers. They were also a Canadian Alt. Country act that wasn't together for very long. Based on those two tunes you posted from The Blue Shadows (which were excellent), I'd be willing to bet you'd really dig that album as well. Not the best tune on the album, but there isn't much to choose from on Youtube. Still pretty good, though: Here's another really good one:
