I would say that it reveals or suggests something about the nature of their depravity and also why they committed murder. The act may stand alone in moral and a legal sense but not in a psychological sense. The ramp down from the unacceptable crime may tells us something about the ramp that led up to it. For instance, the situation I mentioned in post #53. One can imagine soldiers who recently had lost comrades to enemy action and were full of a desire for revenge that in some cases was not satisfied by the act of killing their antagonists alone. One can also imagine soldiers who felt up front that their antagonists were alien inferior beings who deserved not only to be killed but also ritually humiliated, and who felt that memorializing and sharing these acts of posthumous humiliation would bolster their self esteem. Meaningless differences? I don't think so. Right. In other words, a kinder, gentler murderer/rapist/domestic abuser is to be looked at in a different, perhaps more sympathetic light. I'm not sure why you keep reiterating that, yet at the same time demand that you're not saying that at all.

Still completely disagree. I don't care if they cut their victims skin off and wore it around a la Ed Gein. All that shows is just how twisted and depraved they were. It has no bearing, none, on the fact that they committed murder. The act stands alone, in both a moral and a legal sense. I couldn't care less how Rice responded to it.

Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)

Just wanted to correct a couple of points here. When the iPhone is set to silent it will not interrupt what you are listening to. So there's your same functionality of taking your iPod for a walk and leaving your phone at home. Also, the iPod Touch also has a speaker on it. I realize you're referring to the Classic, but just wanted to make it clear that one iPod model does indeed have a speaker. After all, the Touch is essentially an iPhone without the ability to take and make calls. Though, I'd be interested in hearing about the new set of reflexes and the loss of time thing. I never experienced anything like that. -
Here's my problem, Larry. I'm strictly opposed to any violence, and especially that perpetrated by a male on a female. To say a slap is more acceptable than a punch is simply a road I cannot go down. Or to say that a show of concern somehow makes it better than a show of indifference. I disagree with that 100%, with no exceptions or wiggle room.

Not murky, illegal. Which really makes it hard to believe. Because if that is true, then it's crossed over into conspiracy territory. The rest of your post is 100% spot on. The video from the elevator added no weight to what we already knew. She was knocked out cold in the elevator, then dragged out into the lobby and left lying on the floor while Rice simply stood around contemplating his next move, with absolutely no regard to the condition of his girlfriend. I didn't need to see his technique to explain what was already painfully apparent. And as far as the supposed "lie" Rice told the NFL? So slapping her and having her hit her head is somehow less violent?! I don't get that one bit. He violently attacked her causing her to lose consciousness. I really don't care whether it was an open hand or a closed fist. Both are equally dangerous coming from a strong professional athlete.

I wish! The OS doesn't recognize the Zune at all. Wow, brother. That's as lame as it gets. I found this on the Microsoft support site, and wondered if you had tried it: " Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 actually kickstarted the Zune Installation." -
Um, so?! Are we going to get into varying degrees of domestic violence where someone is knocked unconscious and then dragged by her feet? C'mon...

So you can't even drag and drop in Windows Explorer?! That's all I ever did with my old players. -

Apple's designs have been top notch for quite some time. I remember the first time I held a fourth gen iPod Touch in my hands. I was completely blown away by the quality. Especially having been a "fuck it, I'll get the $20 mp3 players from Walmart" type before that. -

If it's in good shape you should sell it to Gazelle. You could pocket some decent cash for it. -

Yes, the Nano is still part of the iPod line. Shuffle, Nano, and Touch. -
I'm not so sure. I knew that he hit her and knocked her unconscious, as we all did, but actually seeing it was something else. The blow itself, but also his reaction or lack of reaction to what he had done. He just stands there for a while, seemingly indifferent or pondering what he's going to do with her limp form, when some people might have thought that the blow had caused grave injury or even killed her. Larry, he dragged her out of the elevator. He didn't pick her up and carry her out, he dragged her. He showed complete disregard for her in that original lobby video. I have absolutely no idea how anyone could have seen that differently. It's like Dan Patrick said on his show the other day: "Can you politely knock someone out?"

There's one law enforcement officer that is soon to be out of a job.

That's cool, MG. I usually have around 800-900 songs on my phone. And I slowly rotate albums in and out. But, I can see the upside of not having to do that. I think the iWatch is absolute foolishness. -

Do you travel for long periods of time, or something? I've personally never understood the need to carry tens of thousands of songs around. -
*blush* But you have to admit, my last word usually kicks ass!

I got off the Twitter by never getting on it. I realize that doesn't help, Larry. These goddamn social networking deals damn near make it impossible to leave them. Best of luck.

So do we afford you the rank of Captain Obvious, or General Observation, for this? Thanks to Roger Goodell, this is what the NFL has been reduced to. Pretty sickening shit. I'm assuming we can at least agree upon that.
-
Yeah, the press coverage from yesterday was almost as shameless as the leagues behavior. Really sickening. Yes, we all knew Rice knocked his wife out. How they were able to manufacture the outrage they did yesterday is mind boggling.

http://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/what-is-the-process-to-get-an-subpoena-for-video-f-382811.html The NFL's legal team knew that they'd come a little too close to a tampering with state's evidence charge were they to directly request the video from the casino. Since there was on ongoing legal investigation going on at the time, that video was indeed state's evidence, and the NFL had absolutely nothing to do with the legal investigation, nor the charges that were eventually filed. They wouldn't have even been recognized by the court unless Rice's attorney or the prosecutor called them in as a witness. In which case they still would have had no right to review any evidence pertaining to that case. This is a situation where breathless and world renown legal experts like Adam Schefter should really shut the fuck up, because not only do they have no idea what they're talking about but are confusing the hell out of everyone else with their moronic pronouncements.

Boy, did he ever. I was lucky enough to see him at the Chicago Jazz Festival several years ago. R.I.P., Master Wilson...
-
No, they don't. Unless it was leaked. All security video taken is off limits to anyone who does not possess a subpoena, unless the owner grants them access to it. I don't give two shits who you send to retrieve it. Look, I work for a local drug rehab unit. We have cameras in our parking lots, and at least every other month the local Sheriff's department will come to us wanting to see video. They are politely shown the door. Keep in mind, these are sworn officers of the law, and legal authority. They possess the legal authority to arrest people for obstruction. And we send them on their way if they don't possess a subpoena. You know how loud we're going to laugh when someone shows up saying, "I'm from the NFL?!" If Rice had beaten his girlfriend in our parking lot, the NFL would have had zero access the video confirming it. Zero.
-
When you say "due diligence", what are you referring to? The in elevator video? They couldn't have seen it unless someone leaked it to them. They're not a legal entity, and have no authority to make any demands. Not until they enter into a court case. That's the one thing that really pissed me off when Florio came out talking about how "easy" it was for the NFL to see that video, and that it was something he learned from the movie, My Cousin Vinny. He made it perfectly clear with that statement why he was a failed attorney. As far as "banned him to save their own skins, and that is shameful", you couldn't be more spot on, IMO. It's as I said elsewhere, the NFL and the Ravens got the greatest get out of jail free card I've ever seen. I'm just shocked they had the wherewithal to actually take advantage of it. Though, I guess in fairness we should call what they did "shameless" instead.

I'm sure having the starting QB for the Rams being taken out of the game for an injury was a contributing factor to the outcome but I don't want to take that away from the Vikings, their defense had an "A" game yesterday. Eh, ordinarily I'd agree. But, the Rams QB's are pretty similar across the board. Hell, many Rams fans thought Hill was an upgrade from Bradford. And while he may be (very, very slightly), I don't see Davis as that much of a downgrade from Hill. He may be as good as both Hill and Bradford from what I've seen. No, that was just a dominant defensive performance from Zimmer and crew. No surprise to say that, I suppose, but I honestly thought the Rams would be a decent enough team this year. They'd just end up with a bad record mostly because of the division they play in, even though I thought they had a shot at overtaking Arizona because of all the defensive injuries. Minny just plain made them look inept. Kudos... I'm guessing that's your team, and if so, I think they may give you a season to enjoy this year. I'm certainly not high on Cassel, nor should anyone be, but he has a ton of high powered weapons around him (not to mention perhaps th one OC that has the tools to make him look really good). They may not end up with a favorable record due to their division mates, but they should be fun as hell to watch.
