  1. I suppose that's right. But let me rephrase my question: why has it become such a hot button issue in the national media? It's not like these are small blogs or niche publications. I guess the real question is why Jazz?
  2. That was a wonderful and thoughtful post.
  3. I agree with that to the extent you mean it. But how did Jazz end up being such a go to hot button issue?!
  4. I'd have to add Awakenings and The Bird Cage to that list. I'd like to say this news shocked me yesterday, but it really didn't. I always thought his ticking time bomb nature was genuine. He'll be missed.
  5. Man, you folks are going to blow my cover! I'm hoping Mr. Secor doesn't see this...
  6. So the author employed some truly nefarious misdirection by announcing up front it wasn't satire. Then he sheepishly owns up to it being a parody? What a piece of shit. If I were his editor, he'd be on the streets.
  7. Interesting. I knew physical sales were way down for all print media, but I'm surprised the digital rates haven't taken off in their place. Perhaps you're right in that people find enough of what they're looking for free online. I still have a digital subscription to The Christian Science Monitor, but nothing else anymore. I wonder if quality has also become an issue? That was the reason I switched from The New York Times to The Christian Science Monitor.
  8. Actually, The Chicks still are, just not on a full time basis. Natalie has recorded a solo album, as have the two sisters, but they have all played together even a few times this year. After seeing the Shut Up & Sing documentary it seemed pretty clear the stress and intensity of that particular point in time was going to be very detrimental to them as a group. But, they still have never called it quits.
  9. *dingdingdingdingding* And we have a winner. Here are the only two lines from that idiocy that are of any importance. 1. "What does this reset look like? I have no idea." Right, so how about you simply shut the fuck up. 2. "My flirtation with jazz was inglorious and short." Thank you and goodnight, Mr. Crouch.
  10. I had the same experience when I revisited the show about a decade ago. I couldn't believe just how incredibly funny it was. Very well written and acted. Some of the very best episodes was when brother Jerry had his recurring role.
  11. But why not? People buy imports by mail all the time. Is that actually illegal?
  12. Seems to be download only. It's on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon UK. F Ah, that's why I couldn't find it... thanks. You know, there's something that completely befuddles me. Why does iTunes offer things in one country, but not another. That Griffin box set isn't available on American iTunes. I've seen that kind of thing before, as well. It just doesn't make any sense. I'd grab that sucker in a heartbeat, especially at THAT price. They do have the Complete Sessions with Griffin and Lockjaw for $25, but not this one. Very annoying.
  13. Yeah, it just stepped on the brightness control button. And chalk me up as another cat lover. I've had cats and dogs all my life.
  14. I might be misreading what you're saying, uli. But wouldn't the last four pages of this thread count? And that is a honest and respectful question.
  15. Reading for comprehension, it's not just for breakfast anymore. I have repeatedly stated the piece was both stupid and unfunny. I also stated earlier that they should apologize to Rollins and pull the article. But man oh man did you destroy the shit of that strawman!!! Yep, if you can't make points based on fact and merit, just make something up. Unfortunately for old school con artists like yourself, stuff posted on the internet tends to stay there for others to see.
  16. Oddly enough, having been in "meaningful" and polite discussions with both of you at times, this whole thing is rather amusing. Since I won't feign the manufactured outrage you both expect for this grievous hit piece, suddenly I'm nothing but a shit talker who doesn't listen to music and never participates in music discussions. What a couple of cutie pies.
  17. Hahaha... The old, "I don't like your style, so now I'll demand to see your credentials" bit, eh? Sorry, Paul. The search function isn't just here for its looks. And of course, I recently spent thousands of dollars on equipment upgrades just so I could play pink noise through it.
  18. Yeah, had the protagonist been Wynton Marsalis the title of this thread would have been, "Hilarious article about Wynton Marsalis!" And everyone would be in here would be hooting and honking about how much "truth" there was behind the satire, etc... But because it's someone that most around here like, well then it's just an outrage! Hey!!!! Stop acting like this article didn't destroy entire continents, leaving survivors sick and hungry with no hope of living! Or else Jim will have to aim his next intellectual Three-card Monte screed at you!
  19. I'm glad someone finds his flowery brain dumps entertaining. How you see Jim: How anyone not fooled by intellectual con artistry sees Jim:
  20. Thank you. That was also a big part of my beef; you don't (or shouldn't) fuck with old people like that. WTF?! What does age have to do with anything? You can fuck with young folks, but not old? What age is the cutoff line?! The lunacy of this threads just keeps growing and growing.
  21. Fair enough, even though your assumption is incorrect. I'll take Sonny at his word, whereas you choose to read between the lines as an act of confirmation bias.
  22. Quoted because the ridiculous, self-congratulatory, and pseudo erudite nature of this post is JSngry on steroids. To your credit, you have truly topped yourself. Pretty high praise considering how many years, and posts, you have devoted to your legacy here. No need for me to offer any rebuttals, as they have already been posted.
  23. Yeah, that was good. But, it still implied he was alright with the piece overall. Just surprised by the source.
