  1. RCA cables with cheap, flimsy aluminum terminations do have their issues, yes. Perhaps Walmart sells slightly more expensive RCA's with brass terminations, I don't know. I was just using them as an example because they do indeed stock some really shitty cables.
  2. I need to revisit that recording. AND pick up the sequel that recently came out. Have you heard it?
  3. I think Ringo's tunes are all corny, yet terribly underrated. Don't Pass Me By is a highlight on The Beatles, IMO.
  4. Well, you kind of post me at "surely not a placebo effect", because it really depends on what we're discussing. That said, I have absolutely no doubt that upgrading your CD player, speakers, and adding a DAC indeed resulted in perfectly noticeable differences. I've been there. Wires is where the discussion gets dicey.
  5. Interconnects can to a very small degree if you get $.99 RCA cables from Walmart. But, as with speaker cables, there is no need to spend mega bucks on them. My Emotiva interconnects are as quiet as the day is long.
  6. Only the first two Lenny Kravitz albums, though. Things really started going downhill with Are You Gonna Go My Way.
  7. Right, and not to mention any time you get to hear Coltrane and Dolphy play together it's worth its weight in gold. That was such a very small window of time.
  8. Not keeping up with re-issues much, I just found out about this release. So I was wondering if they had somehow/magically come across different masters than the ones they used for the Live Trane box. Glad I found this thread before taking a chance on pulling the trigger. BTW, mjzee. Did you ever hear the original Pablo individual CD's? The sound quality of Live Trane is absolutely divine in comparison. Many of the original stereo mixes were almost as unlistenable as The Olatunji Concert (an album that made me lose a ton of respect for Impulse!).
  9. I just heard that song from Lorde that she won a Grammy for last night. I really dig it. Shows how out of the loop I am when it comes to contemporary music. I thought Lorde was a Heavy Metal band. Come to find out it's just a 17 y.o. girl that bizarrely looks twice her age...
  10. Caught the first 40 or so minutes last night. What an engaging character! Of course, I'd assume you'd have to be if you were going to surround yourself with those cats.
  11. I talked to Dennis about that years ago, and he told me it most likely wouldn't happen. But I won't divulge the reason since I'm not sure I have permission to. Shame, though...
  12. I have it in my Netflix queue. Looking forward to it.
  13. Whatever. That's all I can say. They are both truly gifted musicians, no matter where their hearts lie. I wish Ellery would record with them. NY Midnight Suite was brilliant, and not that Masters Thompson and Helias are slouches, but I'd love to hear him with Stefan and Aaron driving the bus.
  14. Special thanks to whoever posted the Big Baroque Box earlier in this thread. Downloaded Vol. 1 today (305 tracks!!!). Currently diving into the early stages of the 14+ hours of music. Brilliant stuff, and the sound quality is superb. Especially considering it was only $6. *edit* Just checked, and it was mjzee. Thanks, brother!
  15. He's never been one to hide the fact...
  16. Very nice. Do Stefan and Aaron still do their Thrash Metal material? Forgot what they called themselves. Definitely prefer their work with their father.
  17. The last Beatles related movie I watched was the mockumentary Paul McCartney Really Is Dead. It was an amusing diversion, and the Paul is dead thing is entertaining to revisit every great now and then.
  18. Any good?
  19. I always thought From Me To You was a vastly underrated tune. John really sings his ass off on that one.
  20. I like both. I think Martin and his son did a wonderful job with the Love soundtrack. I once described it as an album of all new songs that you know by heart. I can understand a more traditionalist stance, but I'm a fan of mash ups when done correct. One of the first ones I ever heard was Blondie's Rapture and Riders On The Storm. I thought it was brilliant.
  21. May you one day hire an editor.
  22. OK, just one more. I love this one for the jarring transition.
  23. Awesome, thanks Jim! I'm going to check those out. Here are two of my favorites from Love. It's hard to listen to them out of the sequence of the album because of the way everything segues, but you'll still get the idea.
  24. Sounds like it would have been a great fit for the Love soundtrack. An album that horrified me when I first heard of it, but after I finally broke down and bought a copy was pleasantly shocked at how much fun it was to listen to. Not to mention it was a GREAT preview as to what the remastered albums were going to sound like.
  25. Nice!!! Reminds me of the day I finally scored Eric Dolphy's Naima and Unrealized Tapes from some boutique shop in England. That was my holy grail for a decade. Enjoy!
