I'm wondering how Ms. Ryder can't be cute. Well, discounting the whole psycho thingy......... Big Al, you gotta at least jump into the politics forum at least once. C'mon, you know you want to. -

BV is good. I don't know if that company still exists though. Not a big fan of Shiner. I don't dig the single bocks. I want the dark, heavy stuff. Sammy Smiths Oatmeal Stout, baby!! -

Don't care for any of their other products that I've had. But the Wheat is a very well made beer. Kinda reminds me of Ybor City Calusa Wheat, which you can't find here. I'm thinking of picking up a case when we're in Florida in a couple of weeks. If you can ever find it, I highly recommend it. Probably the best Wheat I've ever had. -

Eh, maybe. On tap, at least. Which I did have over in Boston earlier this year. and it's definitely much better that way. So, ok. I'll give you that one. Freef, what are your thoughts on the Boulevard brews? I dig the Wheat. -

Fat Tire isn't as good as Bass, but neither are top shelf. As far as beer goes, I've been on a big Paulaner Salvator Double Bock kick. Nice and syrupy, 7.5% abv. Makes you feel nice and fuzzy after just a couple. For the hard stuff, I've had some Woodford Reserve as well as a 12 y.o. Balvenie Double Wood lately. Both are top notch, IMO. -
Seriously. I went to J&R's DVD store a couple weeks ago and was astonished at some of the shows that are out of DVD. Who is buying ALF - The Complete First and Second Season? You may as well put Small Wonder out on DVD. My other big beef is with shows like Friends, Seinfeld, etc.... Hell, if you have cable you can watch several episodes of all those shows on a daily basis!! You're damn sure not going to be watching TP or NE on any of those channels though.
-
It took forever and a day for them to release the Northern Exposure seasons, and both of those shows were on around the same time. I believe TP was just winding down as NE was starting to get a bit popular. Both were great shows, and it's been rather aggravating waiting for their DVD release, especialy when so many other crap shows are already out.

Recordings that were critical flashpoints

Pretty much anything from Monk. Just pick one. Or one of Ornette's early dates. -

That's the all time best right there. I don't know which is funnier, when Hammond said that line, or Ferrel's follow up to it. -
Cool. You should pop in over there sometime. Hell, it's even civil most of the time. And one more voice is always a good thing.

Yeah, or Dan Carlin Might want to check his site. He and I disagree all the time. Matter of fact, we have already disagreed about something today. But hey, at least you've partially done your homework. Nice!! Yeah, I was just foolin' with you man, I like Dan a lot. I was just wondering could there be two Scott Dolans? Peace Partner right back at ya Do you post there?

Agreed. If everyone agreed with you what the hell would you learn? Might as well be a Hannity fan.
-
Point proven. Thanks, Scott! You are fun to joust with, I'll give you that!

Not buying into junk science to validate my own opinions doesn't exactly preclude me from being level-headed and logical. Buying, overnight, into a number 6 times greater than the one you had believed in the day before doesn't seem very logical, IMO. Possibly bordering on hysteria.

Exactly. Kind of a "shoot me to put me out of your misery" kind of thing.

Happy B-Day to my favorite leftwing loon!! -
He does have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this music. And it's a treat when he talks about it. But I don't get the whole politics thing. Did he ever really talk about politics here? He never did on JC. Just posted NYT op-ed after NYT op-ed. He started so many different "Bush is a moron" threads over there that even the libs were begging him to settle down.
-
I take it you don't have much appreciation for the FreeJazz movement? It's difficult to grasp, indeed. And I don't mean that in a condescending way. It's like Frank Zappa said, "either you get it, or you don't". I didn't at first, Al. But when I got Coltrane's VV boxset, and popped in that first disc, it was some kind of revelation. The first track is India. As I was listening to it all I could think was "this is the most bizarre horseshit I've ever heard". But when it was over I just HAD to go back and listen to it again! After that, I was hooked. Hard to explain. Have you heard anything from that box?
-
A buncha trolls. Guy No WONDER I identify with those guys so much!!

Well thank you, brother. Some of my rep is well deserved, I'll be the first to own up to that. When I first started posting at JC in '02, I was indeed a firebreathing rightwing loon. September 11th really shook me up and I fell into Hannity/Limbaugh/Fox News trap. But I've recovered quite nicely, I believe. And I dove head first into politics as a result. And that is a good thing. It's helped me to better understand that America is an ideologically based society which means we all basically want the same ends. It's just the means that seperate us. Well, I'm a rather lukewarm fan of his Birdness, but do appreciate his contributions. So maybe I'll end up being part of said group. So you're also familiar with the goings on at JC? What is your handle there? But I agree with you. I used to dig threads about me, but now they make me cringe. I don't seek the attention, it just seems to happen. Big Al, this is sound advice. Though the wealth of false starts, breakdowns, and alternate takes can sometimes be tedious, this is an excellent document of the master. I got this one when I still lived in Florida many years ago, and I still consider it one of the "must have" boxes in my collection. Where do you stand on folks like Eric Dolphy and Ornette?

Ugh.................. I knew I should have ignored your suggestion. I fell asleep twice while composing that post!
