  1. "He's now facing the same predicament with MP3s and high-resolution downloads. "The majors will never give us rights to downloads. It's their feeling that they can take a Mosaic set and dump the CDs into iTunes and put up the downloads for themselves. As long as they don't use the Mosaic name or box it like the Mosaic, they can do whatever they want—it's their material." That essentially reads as how he sees any potential conversation over download licensing rights playing out. Not that the conversation ever actually took place. They could have just as easily taken the exact same route with ANY of their property. The closing statement says it all. He doesn't "think" "our generation" will get beyond the CD. I guess he wants to be seen as a proud buggywhip maker, but why be so wishy-washy about it?
  2. CDs?! Hell, kids don't even buy downloads anymore!
  3. I'm not sure, but if I had to take a guess I'd say TDK.
  4. No, he did not. He said they didn't currently have digital/streaming rights. He said nothing about the possibility of renegotiating the licensing rights packages.
  5. Right, but that was what it was all about back then. Nobody complained about the sound. That was my point.
  6. Again, we do not know this for a fact. All we know is that current licensing agreements don't allow Mosaic to market downloads, or streaming.
  7. The problem with cassettes is they degraded as quickly as you could play them. You could buy studio releases on cassette and they sounded wonderful at first. But things went downhill quickly from there. Especially if you were like me and didn't feel like cleaning your heads on a daily basis. Portability was the primary driving force behind the popularity of cassettes. And like Art said, audiophiles were initially in love with four track cassettes. Just like they were initially in love with CDs. Then when it wasn't cool to be in love with them (i.e., everybody was playing them), they quickly disavowed their usefulness and proclaimed the LP the ultimate audiophile medium.
  8. I've never seen a single episode of that show, but that was hilarious!
  9. Ah, OK. Same here. Did your email also say: "Please note that we are behind in shipping and we expect to ship your order in the 5 - 7 days. You will receive a notice with tracking # when the warehouse ships." My guess is that mjzee is right on the money. Too few employees, combined with a severe glut of orders over the last five days probably have them deep in the weeds. I would think if they've sent your order to the shipping warehouse, it is reserved in your name.
  10. Did you receive a shipping confirmation number?
  11. A line from my shipping confirmation email: "We had a very strong response to our offerings over the last few days and want to thank you for your support!"
  12. Jealous! I love the sample tunes they have on the site. I'm hoping to order it next month.
  13. Or better yet, how about a simple newsletter? It would cost far less to print and distribute. That's potentially the best compromise between marketing and economic viability, IMO. Because I agree with ghost of miles that it was a necessity, rather than a mistake, to discontinue the catalog.
  14. Physical items simply aren't necessary any more. Books, magazines, newspapers, catalogs are much more rare in physical form these days. Hell, our local Barnes & Noble recently went under. Most people with newspaper subscriptions read them on their tablets or phones these days. I even read a story some time back about university libraries cutting back on physical stock so theycan create more space for computer stations. So Mosaic discontinuing their catalog makes perfect sense, and I seriously doubt it hurt their sales in any significant way.
  15. I agree. There's no way this is a long-term fix, but it does buy them a little more time to look at all of the options available to them to remain viable. Who knows? They may just sell out their stock, cancel any orders they cannot fulfill, and call it good. I just think it's really cool that we pulled together as a community to show our appreciation, which I'm sure isn't lost on them.
  16. ??!! The actual Mosaic? Or the individual albums?
  17. That's really interesting! Thanks, Rod.
  18. So is Jazz Messengers some kind of European middle man for Mosaic? Sorry for the "stupid American" question.
  19. That's actually good news. I wonder if the concerted effort over the last couple of days has thrown them a lifeline? *fingers crossed* I'd love to know what their sales numbers look like post-email/social media blitz.
  20. I've known you were a troll for some time, but it's nice to see confirmation. Impulse buyers vs "real" Bird lovers. So, if they're not "real" they're...? That is quite impressive, Fred! Some SERIOUS money sitting on those shelves.
  21. He asked an honest question. What is your answer?
  22. You make a really piss poor gort... I say let Larry get his hands on this motherfucker. He'll clean it up lickety split! Do the kids still say lickety split these days?
  23. Hahahaha... Hahahaha...
  24. I have no idea how that explains: "Imho, the Benedetti is one set that'll be the easiest to find, if Mosaic shutters up." Find where? If Mosaic shuts down, that set goes with them unless they're able to sell the rights to another label. Oh, and I apologize on behalf of all the posers. Us fake Bird lovers stick together.
