I doubt we're the first generation to worry about such things. I do understand what you're saying, and for the most part agree. I just don't think it's fair to base your assessment on how younger generations interact online. It might tell us something, it might tell us nothing. -

The problem is that you have no idea whether they possess that competency or not. In personal, real life work/conversations they may excel at a long-term and fluid thought process. But in the online environment they gravitate towards, they don't have to. To that point, I actually have to admit the first half of your post comes across as rather snooty, in a comical way. -

Excellent post, HP! I think you are 100% on the money with your assessment. Younger people are from the Twitter generation, and conditioned to have shorter attention spans when it comes to online interaction. That's no judgement on their character or intellect, it's simply the way they adapted to their online environment. So even reading a post as relatively short as the one HP posted above would have their inner voice yelling "BOOOOOOOORINGGGGG" before they even got halfway through it. And yes, us old curmudgeons aren't always the most welcoming... I'm in my mid 40's and it's rare to find anyone younger than that still participating on message boards. Also, let's not kid ourselves. Jazz isn't exactly bursting at the seams with new listeners. Especially younger ones. -

I always found the place a bit boring. But, that was mainly because I was into the fire-breathing, ax swinging fights we normally had at JC. I'd probably enjoy AAJ these days, since I've settled down a little. -
Picked up There Is No Stillness by a group called Glories a couple of days ago. I think it's fantastic.

The majority of the time she was telling me about her husband/boyfriend as though I knew him and she was catching me up on how he was andmwhat he was doing. Very odd encounter, but as I said, she seemed like a very nice person. Just a bit confused at that point. I'm thinking this was somewhere around 2008 or 2009? -

Saundra Hummer join Jazz Corner at one point and started spamming my pm inbox with all these really bizarre stories and rants. She would talk about her friends as though they were my friends, ask me if I remembered things we had allegedly witnessed/done together in the past. She even sometimes did it publicly on the forum. It was all very confusing to me, but I played nice because she seemed like a perfectly harmless person. Sorry to here she passed away. -

I did, too. And while I concur, it can get quite pricey depending on how intricate you choose to make it. -
Wow! 67 years! That's an enormous accomplishment in Hollywood, or not! Good for them!

You were banned?! For what?! You're one of the most polite persons I've ever met online. Even when you're pissed. -
You know, I never saw this show? I knew of it, but my mother was a huge Rockford Files fan. So that's what we had to watch... R.I.P., even if I never saw your show...

Absolutely! Nothing wrong with that. We've got some really smart and knowledgeable cats here. It would be nice to see that braintrust last as long as possible. -

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Outside of here and the Hoffmann forums, forums in general are a dying breed. I think Ron still has Jazztalk up and running, but last I checked there was almost zero traffic there. Sign of the times, I guess. -
You know, I'm not sure there is a definitive shelf life for speakers. But yes, 20+ years is definitely a reasonable length of time for pretty much any speaker to last. Glad to hear you went with the Pioneers. I think they scare most people off because of the price and the name Pioneer. I'm actually getting a pair of them for my drum kit. Going to hook them up with a Bic America subwoofer.

Any update on your search, medjuck?

The lack of self awareness in a person that tells one to "shut up", calls them dumb, and tells another to fuck off, all while pleading with others to show basic respect boggles the mind.

Not sure I ever fell out of love with Mary.

Actually, I revisited it as an adult on a regular old CRT. Perhaps I'll have to give it another go on HDTV.

Great post. It's funny, I grew up watching The Dick Van Dyke Show and thought it was entertaining in a goofy, mindless way. It was really astonishing to revise the show as an adult and realize just how fucking amazing it really was. Just a powerhouse of unbelievably talented actors, and some of the best comedic writing of all time. That was my first exposure to the GREAT Jerry Van Dyke, as well.

Super sexy. Super talented. As funny as she was beautiful. And that's saying a lot.

I'd have to echo what jazzbo said. Though I would have loved to have heard the program Dmitry attended!

All I listened to were podcasts and the soundtrack for SimCity Buildit. Not a huge music weekend for me like previous weekends where my headphone amp was working overtime.
