  1. Gemini - Les Spann (Jazzland) Mono
  2. I didn't buy the box because I had all of the albums on lp except for that one. Someone's sorted me out though. I knew it would be a good album. How could it not with Golson AND RRK together, not to mention the stellar group playing with them?
  3. I saw a copy of this at R5 a week ago for $100.00. I didn't know it existed until then and haven't seen this thread until now. I picked it up a looked at it, but only wondered wtf? and put it back down. How embarassing.
  4. PM coming on three of these records Cecil Payne - Zodiac Harold Vick - Caribean Suite Jack Wilson - Plays Brazilian Mancini
  5. I have the Kirk's Works on lp and I almost bought The Funk Underneath on lp a few months ago until I read the cover info. Funny how reading a little can help you prevent a double purchase. One of the few holes I have in my RRK collection is the one he did with Benny Golson on Mercury. Does anyone know where I can find that one?
  6. Impressions - Paul Horn Four (World Pacific Jazz) Mono
  7. I believe I saw the Drum Ode lp on Saturday but I passed it up. What's it like? I don't remember who was on it. There were a couple of other Liebman albmums too but I can't recall the titles or labels.
  8. I found an original 10 inch copy of Laurinda Almeida Quartet (w/Bud Shank) on Pacific Jazz. The cover and record are vg+ which is what really surprised me. Every ten inch record I find is so beat up that I've almost given up looking at them. I was truly shocked at how quiet the vinyl played. The birth place of U.S. bossanova?
  9. Planet Love - Ernie Watts Qt. (World Pacific Jazz)
  10. Nice one. One of my favorite albums by Maupin.
  11. I respectfully disagree. I have the original vinyl and though I love it too, I couldn't live without the rest of the music found on the three disc set. Of course, you're just marketing your ebay account so who knows what you really think.
  12. Last night I gave Bud Powell's Strictly Powell (RCA)Mono a spin after reading the discussion about it elsewhere on the site. Followed that with Vic Feldman's On Vibes (Mode Records) Mono.
  13. Thelonius Himself (Milestone) Japanese pressing
  14. It sounds like getting it replaced is the right thing to do. I'm sure you don't want to risk damaging any of your valuable record collection.
  15. Great album! I have a Japanese cd of it that I found in Avignon while on vacation but I've never seen a vinyl copy. Hell, I've never seen another cd of it either. Was playing Black Drops - Charles Earland (Prestige) Purple label Next Willis Jackson's Bar Wars on Muse w/Mr. Earland and Pat Martino.
  16. First off, my sincere condolences over this stylus issue. It's every turntable owner's nightmare. Chuck's idea isn't a bad one though. If you can bend it back carefully and you can determine that it's back in its rightful place it might be ok. Is the stylus tip still there or did it get sheared off? I don't suppose the cartridge company would ship you a "loaner" until yours is returned to you. It wouldn't hurt to ask. The worst thing they'll say is no.
  17. I got to see Nels Cline perform his Andrew Hll tribute with the full band that was on the record just before he recorded the album. I guess it was sort of a dress rehearsal. He later opened for Andrew Hill at the San Francisco Jazz Festival doing the same program. and now for something completely different Freddie Hubbard's The Hub of Hubbard on MPS (Stereo)
  18. Andrew Hill's Smokestack (Bluenonte) NY Stereo pressing. It's not my favorite of his early BN albums but I still play it from time to time.
  19. Pat Martino's Exit (Muse) wlp followed by Joe Farrell's Skateboard Park (Xanadu)
  20. You-a bad boy Jay!
  21. I heard this album for the first time about a year ago when I found the original album on lp(s). I loved it so much I ended up buying the three disc set on cd. It was worth every penny. I'll probably keep the vinyl but I have to admit I play the cds now. There are very few 3 cd sets as strong as that one. I really liked where Lee Morgan was heading. Those last few albums (or at least the ones I've heard) were some of my favorite Lee Morgan moments. I find myself wondering what if .....
  22. Nina Simone sings Duke Ellingston (Colpix) Stereo
  23. The only album I have by Esquivel is Out of This World. I love the cover and the music is pretty interesting too. A friend sold it to me for a couple of bucks and I'm pretty sure it's a first pressing.
  24. I have both US and UK mono Peppers. They have the same mix but are mastered differently. US has a little more compression and more of the mid-rangey sound. The UK is less compressed and has more highs. I like them both. Thanks for that info. That'll keep me from spending much on a mono Pepper if I ever run across one.
  25. I have an original U.S. pressing of Sgt. Peppers in mono and I'm not that impressed by it. I prefer it in stereo. I've read (yes, over in Hoffmanville) that the U.K. mono is the one to get. I haven't heard it so I can't say. I've also heard that the Beatle's White Album is excellent in mono, but again I haven't heard it, but I'd like to. Re: mono jazz, I like it. I have many mono jazz titles on lp but in most cases I haven't heard the stereo version so I've never compared them. I don't bother with that kind of obsession much. If I can get a clean original of a rare jazz title, I'll take whatever I can get. Some of those old jazz records are getting too hard to find to be that picky.
