still sums up the whole wacky process quite nicely -

Duke Pearson remained with the label until '71 I believe and Wolff was still involved as well (at least until 1970). There are MANY albums from the post-Lion period that I find equally enjoyable to anything produced during his tenure. I'd say that the 1967-1970 period was damn impressive and still very much Blue Note. -

Please define "logical compression". Compression isn't necessarily an "evil", which seems to be antithetical to the MOFI crowd. Some of the MOFI releases I've heard are a little too "clinical sounding" and lack punch, mild compression tightens things up and gives the recording "heft". Too much compression destroys dynamic range, but there is a happy middle ground between the two that I prefer. -

If I ever get called for Jury Duty I'm just going to tell them that I favor the death penalty for the most minor of traffic offenses and hopefully they'll boot me out. -

the SHM-CD series out of Japan is the one that I'm really enjoying..."logical compression" is actually preferable to me than "no compression at all". I wonder if they'll release any Blue Notes in that series (or maybe they have and I've missed them)? -
Happy Birthday!

There are those who would say that the same holds true for the political system as well... sad but true -
I don't know about anyone else, but getting a new Steven Wilson solo album and the new Wilson-mixed Opeth album both in September has me thrilled! It's going to be a kick ass month for modern prog rock.

You should probably just do a test re-upload of a single album, see how it responds.

When they figure out how to quickly and cheaply deal with a collection in Terabytes, I might look into it.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 3. Netflix finally got around to adding TNG to their streaming offerings. I haven't seen this series since it went off the air in the 90's. Decided to start with Season 3 (because that's when it got it's footing). Quite enjoyable still, with great characters.

update from Facebook....new solo album is a double CD and he's going to tour behind it! I'm very happy to announce that following the release of my new solo album "Grace For Drowning" in September, I will be undertaking my first ever solo tour of Europe and North America. For this tour I am very fortunate to have the talents of an extraordinary line up of musicians to perform the music - Marco Minnemann on drums, Nick Beggs on bass, Aziz Ibrahim on guitar, Gary Husband on keyboards, and Theo Travis on flute / sax. And myself (not extraordinary) on vocals, guitars and keyboards. The shows will also include a lot of multimedia and films, material that is being especially prepared by Lasse Hoile as we speak. The music will be drawn from both my solo albums (the newest of which is a double CD, so there is plenty of material to choose from), but please do not come along and shout out for PT songs! The dates will be announced in the next 24 hours or so at www.gracefordrowning.com, but run approximately from mid October to mid November. Please come along if you can, I think these shows are going to be quite an adventure.

The Jazz Series, it seemed like he was really interested in telling the story of the very beginnings...but once he told the introduction, he got bored with the body of the story and just wanted it to be over.

Stuff like this is why I stopped watching the news over a decade ago. I have a fairly simple philosophy: I believe nothing the news media says. I believe nothing politicians say. So why waste time on the news? The stress level goes WAY down and there's more time to enjoy music. -

The best article on Nancy Grace I've read...from Stephen King no less! It's called Graceless & Tasteless. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1540592,00.html a sample: Nancy Grace — puffy-cheeked, helmet-haired, heavy-lidded, strangely expressionless even during her frequent rages — conveys by body language alone the idea that we're all guilty of something...and she knows it. Her specialty is the sorts of tabloid crimes The National Enquirer used to cover in the bad old days, when car-crash photos and Mexican decapitations were staples. George Pelecanos, James Ellroy, and Michael Connelly are able to elevate such horrors to art; Nancy Grace degrades them so deeply into the fleapit of the imagination that a week of her makes Dick Cheney highlight reels look good. And like Puritan elders, Wild West hanging judges, or Madame Defarge knitting in the shadow of the guillotine, Nancy Grace gives the sense that somehow, someway, she just knows whodunit. -

The 25% mark sounds like it's counting both unemployed and "Under-employed" (working well below your skills and pay grade - CEO's bagging groceries, etc). -

Thanks for sharing the link! Now I have "The Iceman" stuck in my head...

Really sorry I missed out on this one, moving and apartment hunting kind of killed any available free time over the past couple weeks.

I'm not real familiar with the neighborhood yet, but I'm on W. Jefferson Blvd, the nearest major cross street is Arlington Ave. There is a public library directly across from the apartment (I'm using their free wireless temporarily) and a nice little park beside that. I'm on the second floor, directly above a .99 cent store. Great building, tons of character, 12 foot ceilings, bay windows in the living room area. It's a bachelor, so there's no actual "kitchen", but the apartment comes with a full size fridge and a microwave. Nicely kept up, very secure (2 security doors on front and back), private gated parking out back, laundry room, etc. It's really the coolest place I've had since I lived in Seattle over 10 years ago...I love these old buildings. The location was the real kicker though, it's so close to both downtown, Hollywood and the beach, it's wild. Just goes to show you that when something falls through...often something better comes along to take it's place. Plus, it's about $50 cheaper than most "room-share" situations and I don't have to live with anyone else...except Pywacket of course. In fact, it's $75 a month cheaper than my apartment in Austin! Whew. I'm SO GLAD to be out of that motel in the valley...

I got the apartment, I move in this afternoon!!!!!! Thanks for the well wishes...now the journey can really begin.

Just google search the name of the video card, there should still be a specs page available on the manufacturers website.
