  1. Leroy Jodie Pierson Arthur Williams and Jesse Hoggard A couple of direct-to-disc blues titles from the Acoustic Sounds label APO.
  2. That is a good price. $25 at Acoustic Sounds. The Coltrane Atlantic box is also on sale.
  3. Playing some new additions: Beck: Guerolito (2LP of remixes of Guero) Aretha Franklin: Aretha Now (Atlantic/ 4 Men With Beards) Otis Redding: Souls Album (Volt/ Sundazed)
  4. Lucinda Williams: Live at the Fillmore....Nice 3 LP set, with nice vinyl and sound. Jimmy Raney: Visits Paris (Dawn/Sundazed)
  5. It would be great if my vinyl vendors had an affiliate program, but as far as I can tell they do not.
  6. Like I said about a year ago, I thought this movie was great. I also felt many would not 'get it', and I see that to be the case. That critic's comments are laughable. It is a piece of art that is interpreted differently. BBM was a good movie, but has as a ton of insulting flaws. Thing is....only real sheep herders and cattle ranchers would know what they are. Oh well, that's Hollywooooooooooood!!!
  7. Nice. I've been on the fence about this one. Please tell me more about these Lps. How's the packaging, etc.? Nothiing special about the packaging. 3 of the 4 have very good sound. Thanks. I wonder if the cd box has any additional material... I believe it does, but from what I hear the CD's suck compared to the vinyl. One other thing, and do not tell anyone, Rhino is coming out with vinyl re-issues in a few weeks.

  9. Sonny Rollins: Saxophone Colossus (Prestige/DCC) Coltrane: Lush Life (Prestige/DCC) Ellington: Big Bands (Time-Life) Charlie Barnet: Big Bands (Time-Life)
  10. Are these what you are referring to? Comments taken from this SITE. Mar. 24, 2004 “Blue Note 65th Anniversary” Series, Limited Edition, by Toshiba EMI Our dream has come true - Toshiba EMI decided to release Blue Note reissues even in this year 2004! This series (20 titles) is to celebrate Blue Note's 65th anniversary. And this series has several specialities... This is the first Japanese LP reissues ever, from the tapes mastered by Rudy Van Gelder himself. And it must be noted that the cutting engineer of this series is the famous Toru Kotetsu, a superb cutting/pressing engineer in Japan. However in my humble opinion, this series actually sounds like that they are pressed using the same remastered tape as “24bit by RVG” CD reissues: stereo mixing has been changed to near-monaural soundscape; I feel the atmosphere of hiss-noise and cymbals sounds rather digitally. But it's not certain whether Toshiba used newly remastered analogue tape or digitally remastered tape. And all titles of this series come with coated cardboard jackets, as well as 180g heavy-weight thick flat vinyls. UPDATE (Aug. 15, 2004): I found an interesting (and very important) article on a Japanese vacuum-tube quarterly magazine “Kankyu Oukoku” (The Tube Kingdom) Vol.33 (2004 Summer). On this magazine, there is a special article regarding this newest Toshiba LP reissues - auditioning these LPs, comparing the sounds with old Toshiba LPs, King LPs, Connoisseur LPs and original issues (such as 47 West 63rd), etc. Interestingly, the writer concludes that this newest Toshiba LP issue deliver the “atmosphere” of RVG's sound. On the other hand, the writer had an interview with Tohru Kotetsu (cutting engineer) and he confirmed this LP series was pressed from 3/4-inch digital tape remasetered by RVG.
  11. As soon as the public domain labels(Definitive, Proper, etc.) start selling CDR's of the Mosaic material, I'll be more than happy to send you a copy of my set.
  12. Can't help, as the Hipp is one I do not have.
  13. I had a couple great finds(financially speaking) the other day, and they were already on my shelves. I read a comment on another board yesterday that the Johnny Cash American Recordings vinyl, from just a few years ago, were going for big bucks on eBay. There are 4 volumes and I have all 4. So I checked ebay, and sure enough......they have gone from $50 to $282.
  14. One that is worse, IMO, is Lee Morgan Vol.3 (1557).
  15. It's on mine, too. On my system it's pronounced, but not unlistenable. Or, the other sound qualities offset the hot cymbal. I do not consider it a bad pressing, but I understand your disappointment. I've heard worse. It's very common on BN's, reissues or originals. One of these days I'd like to hear what Grundman thought about working with these tapes.
  16. Tina Brooks: True Blue (Blue Note/ Classic Records 200 gram/mono) The packaging/replication of these deep groove reissues is still a wonder to me in this day and age.
  17. John Heard & Co.: The Jazz Composer's Songbook...(Straightahead Records...2005) Interesting comments by Bernie Grundman(one of the labels owners) about how working at Contemporary Records in the 60's-70's has played a big part in the sound of this LP. Across the boards, this product oozes quality.
  18. Coltrane: Giant Steps...Nice reissue from Rhino with Kevin Gray doing the mastering and cutting.

    Neil Young

Hey Dmitry, Most of us have known Neil Young since day one. He's been around a while, and never compromised. He is an American icon. From the race problems of the 60's and Vietnam he's been there. A bit like Dylan and Cash and a very few others in this regard. An American original that brought rock to new heights.
  20. Miles Davis: Young Man....(Blue Note 5013/Classic Records 10") Miles Davis Vol.3(BN 5040/Classic Records 10") Andrew Hill: Black Fire
  21. Welcome!!! Very nice vinyl set-up. I use Golden Sound ceramic cones under my Linn LP12. They seem to work well.
  22. I have 4 or 5 88 titles. How many do that have out, now?
  23. You got a Marantz 7, too? Pricey?? The Shure V15VxMR may be my next cartridge if it's a good match for my tonearm I wish I could bid on the Meishu, but I can't seem to sell my Aronov LS-960.
  24. Ellington: Piano In the Foreground(Columbia/Classic Records) Hawkins/Webter (Verve/Classic Records) Ellington/Mingus/Roach: Money Jungle (UA/Classic Records)
  25. Paul Secor owns a few and from what I remember he likes 'em. Maybe he'll chime in.
