  1. Jackie McLean: Swing Swang Swingin'(Classic Records) Ellington/Mingus/Roach: Money Jungle(Classic Records)
  2. I assume they are Scopio pruduct and I always pass them by. "Unless stated otherwise, it should be assumed that our reissues have been digitally remastered (usually) from a digital audio tape/D.A.T. provided to us by the label."
  3. I've received the same e-mail when selling stuff on Audiogon. It's a scam.
  4. Yep.
  5. Unreal!!! I don't know about Snoop(Calvin Broadus). He has single handedly ruined youth football in his hometown so his kid could QB. Most from his hometown and neighborhood despise him. No sense of tradition(that goes back many, many years) and class.
  6. A couple SC players from their prep days... 3-4 number one picks come NFL draft day. Sadly, one(#19) is a tight end at UCLA. Long Beach Poly(CA)...SI's number one high school for athletics over the last ten years. A book was written about this teams loss to De la Salle(151-0, until they lost last year). Sorry, but Snoop(Calvin Broadus, Poly alum) was not on this team, but he did play some hoops for Poly and take a math class with Cameron Diaz(Poly cheer squad). Snoop may ruin Poly's football with his new Pop Warner league that competes with the league that's been around since the 60's and has turned out Poly players: Tony Hill(Dallas Cowboys) LARRY CROOM (Cardinals) WILLIE MC GINEST(Patriots) Samie Parker (KC) Omar Stoutmire(NY Giants) Brandon Whiting (San Fran)..plus another 40 NFL players over the years.
  7. I'm kinda missing the added material. This is one short LP, at under 30 minutes. Too bad the vinyl reissues don't include another LP of unissued tracks like many CD's do. Quite often, the vinyl issue of new music I buy will have a song or two not included on the CD. Go figure....
  8. Been doing business with RT for years. I'll miss them. On a brighter vinyl note: The Silver Platters near me has a decent vinyl section that I just recently noticed. I probably passed it by for a couple years, before I went in to get the Gillespie/Parker CD.
  9. Paul, did you pick this one up? I got it the other day, but I have no other issue to compare it to. Nothing dull or bright about the Classic LP. The Classic is in stereo and it is very left, right and center. The drums and bass are pretty much stuck in the speaker. The piano distorts once in a while. I doubt if this was a great recording to begin with. Fremer had this to say: "This reissue is a huge step upward from the UA “Douglas Collection” '70's vinyl reissue I have, but nothing can be done about the distortion built into the tape. Don't let that stop you, if you're an Ellington fan. Sound snobs should stay away. " He gave it a 6/10 for sound and another reviewer gave it 2.5/5. I've heard many poorer sounding LP's, and feel Classic did a real good job with what they had to work with.
  10. Watch out for a Native American boycott of the BJ league .
  11. Besides the Sonny Criss Imperial titles, it looks like Warne Marsh's: Jazz of Two Cities will soon be available!! The word 'Series' was used regarding these Imperial reissues. More to come??? Some other recent Classic Records releases on 200 gram wax: Hank Mobley: Roll Call MONO Kenny Burrell: Midnight Blue Mono Kenny Burrell: Midnight Blue Stereo Hank Mobley: Roll Call Stereo Count Basie: Chairman of the Board (4 Disc Set-45rpm) Tina Brooks: True Blue Freddy Red: Shades of Red Sonny Criss: Go Man Introducing Zane Musa(original from Grundman's jazz label) John Heard - The Jazz Composer's Songbook (original from Grundman's jazz label) Horace Parlan: On the Spur of the Moment Mono Horace Parlan: On the Spur of the Moment Stereo Sonny Criss: Jazz U.S.A. And.....I believe the Monk/Coltrane LP from Mosaic is due out this week!!!!
  12. He has converted to SACD http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=63234 ← LOL I'm fine and thanks. Have other stuff going on. Have not been buying jazz. I did get the Classic Records reissue of Sonny Criss: Jazz USA. They did a great job!! Oh, and I even bought a CD.......the Bird/Diz Town Hall. Maybe, I'll start posting more soon.
  13. What an accurate, funny and yet human flic. The cast, many of whom are disrespected, finally got a decent script and showed their stuff. Growing up in this environment, the scenes were nothing new to me, and therefore it was like reliving 5 or 10 years of my life. But, when I look around my current environment, I hesitate to recommend this film. I doubt they will get it. Very, very provocative film. For me it provoked thoughts of pre and post Watts riots So Cal race relations. At any rate, this film was written, directed, acted and produced by some very knowledgeable and responsible folk. Well done!!! And, I absolutely love the picture of the governor of Cali in one of the scenes. Keep smokin' those Habanos, Arnie.
  14. I'll be keeping a close eye on my old high school's progress this year. Poly(Long Beach, CA) ended up 13-l last year. They were ranked nationally: number 20 by Maxpreps, 10 by USA Today and 18 by Prepnation. Their only loss was to the school that ended up number one in a few polls. Expectations are high for this year. 9 starters return on defense and 6 on offense. Current national rank: USA Today has them number 3 and Prepnation has them number 7. On Sept. 16th Poly will be here in Seattle(Qwest Field-home of the NFL Seahawks)) to play Bellevue HS(WA) who has won 4 state titles in a row and ended De La Salle's(CA) 151 game steak last year. A book was written about the game between Poly and De La Salle a few years ago. The Bellevue boosters paid around 40K to cover Poly's expenses. Thank you boosters!! As far as prep football goes, this game is huge and I'm pumped!! Maybe, I'll run into one of Poly's biggest fans, Snoop Dogg. He is an alum and his son is a future QB.
  15. Recent Ebay LP set winning bids: $163 $192 $97
  16. Crazy...the last 3 sets went for: $179 $183 $223
  17. I'd contact Speaker's Corner or Kevin Gray at RTI for some of your questions.
  18. I think it would be fine to stack Mosaics horizontally for a time. The box will absorb the pressure, keeping the weight from the LPs. Stack too many and you will run into problems with the boxes feeling the pressure.
  19. Grilled Maui chicken and ribs/tater salad/steamed broc....
  20. Winning bid.....................................$679!!!!
  21. Also, how about the shelf space being taken up by PD titles? Proper, Definitive and others may push the major labels' titles out completely. It will not be long before you see more PD Blue Note titles than legit BN titles.
  22. Just received E-mail from Acoustic Sounds.... We have just purchased a 10,000-LP collection from a music business celebrity who wishes to remain anonymous. This is without question the most first-edition, rare records we have ever seen in one collection. Most are promotional copies without bar codes - many White Label - and most have never been played. These records never left the music biz. The collector received them as promos, and he never broke up the collection. Some of these records are cutouts, but not the kind of overstock cutout you're used to. Rather, one way that record companies marked their records as promos was by cutting the corner of the jacket. Many of the records that have cut corners in this collection also are stamped "promotional" or are white label. These aren't overstocks! If you're serious about getting promos of your favorite artists, let us know, and we'll save the time of typing them. Otherwise, we'll be announcing this inventory bit by bit. Click here for our first list including first-edition Mono jazz titles. Call 800-716-3553 if you like 'em RARE. Link to the priced, mono jazz titles. If these are mint or close to it, some of the prices are real good, and I doubt they'll be around for more than a day or two.
  23. Not if he sells his lot for $5-$10 million.
  24. Jack Johnson: Brushfire Fairytales When I see or hear about kids digging Jack Johnson, I get the thought that the world will be in good hands. My 16 year old says his concert at the Gorge had the largest crowd(sold out) he has ever seen there. When I first heard he would be be the headliner, I did not think there would be much of a turn out. Groovin' With Buddy Tate (Prestige/Swingville)
  25. Sonny Boy Williamson: Portrait of a Blues Man (Storyville/ Analogue Productions reissue) Miles Davis: Young Man With a Horn (Blue Note/Classic Records 10" reissue) Miles Davis: Vol. 3 (Blue Note/Classic Records 10" reissue)
