One of my favorite pianists and live performers, I was very fortunate to see him live at least 14 times. Every time was a thrill. September, 1983: McCoy Tyner Quartet at the Judge's Chambers in Dallas. Gary Bartz, John Lee, Wilby Fletcher. When they played Contemplation... November, 1983: McCoy Tyner Quintet at the Caravan of Dreams, Fort Worth. Same group plus John Blake. September, 1984 (two nights): McCoy Tyner Quintet at the Caravan of Dreams. Substitute Gerald Veasley on bass guitar. Two nights in a row, the intensity and energy of this group was incredible. November, 1985: McCoy Tyner Trio at the Caravan of Dreams. The Trio was initially Avery Sharpe on bass and Louis Hayes on drums. At some point, Aaron Sharpe replaced Louis Hayes. November, 1985, McCoy Tyner Trio at the Venetian Room, Fairmont Hotel, Dallas. May, 1986, McCoy Tyner Trio at Sweet Basil, NYC November 15, 1986: McCoy Tyner Trio at the Caravan of Dreams April, 1988: McCoy Tyner Trio at Caravan of Dreams February 16, 1990: McCoy Tyner Trio at the Caravan of Dreams June 13, 1992: McCoy Tyner Trio at Sweet Basil January 6, 1993: McCoy Tyner Trio at Sweet Basil November 18, 2006: McCoy Tyner, Hogg Auditorium, Austin October 26, 2007: McCoy Tyner with Gary Bartz, Stanley Clarke and Jack DeJohnette, Jazz Improv Festival, NYC.

A more sensible response: Festival International de Louisiane March 6, 2020 From the Desk of Scott Feehan Executive Director, Festival International de Louisiane Re: Coronavirus To all Festival Supporters, patrons, and the entire Lafayette community, I wanted to take a moment to share our thoughts and position about the current Coronavirus, COVID-19, situation, as it pertains to Festival International de Louisiane. With Festival being 47 days away, we are monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Louisiana Department of Health's websites for daily updates and are heeding their advice on proactive measures to take. There is not currently any eminent threat associated with the planning of Festival International de Louisiane. Because of this, we are continuing to plan for our annual festival to take place just as it does every year. We are hopeful and cautiously optimistic that the situation will actually improve between now and the end of April, but we are not assuming that it will or taking anything for granted. In cooperation with public health officials, we will continue to monitor the situation and prepare for a safe and wonderful event at the end of April. We appreciate the concern from those who have reached out and intend to keep fans and the public updated if there are any changes with the ongoing production. With sincere consideration, Scott Feehan Executive Director Festival International de Louisiane

Watched the DVD and it is the same four songs as are on the CD.

My wristband arrived in the mail today.

When I saw Charles Tolliver at the Cell Theater in NYC a few years ago, his band also featured Bruce Edwards.
-
I pre-ordered the standard CD/DVD combo, whatever that includes, which will have to suffice. I'm not getting the absurd super duper luxury version.
-
I looked back at my emails from Big Ears, and the last reference to the detailed line-up announcement was in the January 14 email: "The detailed schedule outlining performance times and venues for all shows will be announced later, most likely in late February or early March."

Last night, the Puerto Rican singer iLe at the Cambridge Room of the House of Blues in Dallas. iLe (to my ears) is fantastic, and every song she performed in her 90 minute set (mostly originals by iLe, her sister and her grandmother) was worthwhile. -
I believe the last reference to the detailed schedule in their emails said the detailed schedule would come out the first week of March.

The Dallas Tower Records store arrived fairly late in the company's history; I liked going there. The Tower Records by Lincoln Center had a nice selection. There was a small Tower Records in the basement of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue that I went to a fair number of times. One had to pass through the lobby of that monument to bad taste to get there.

Jennifer Koh and Vijay Iver Cliburn at the Modern March 14, 2020 - 2:00pm Recognized for intense, commanding performances, delivered with dazzling virtuosity and technical assurance, violinist Jennifer Koh is a forward-thinking artist dedicated to exploring a broad and eclectic repertoire, while promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music. She was named 2016 Musical America Instrumentalist of the Year, won top prizes at the Tchaikovsky Competition and Concert Artist Guild Competition, and received an Avery Fisher Career Grant. She has expanded the contemporary violin repertoire through a wide range of commissioning projects and has premiered more than 70 works written especially for her. In spring 2018, she launched Limitless, a project celebrating the collaborative relationship between composer and performer; duo commissions are played by Koh and the composers themselves. Her partner for this special Cliburn debut is leading-edge composer-pianist Vijay Iyer, whose 22 remarkably diverse recordings have earned him top-album accolades from the likes of The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Rolling Stone, and NPR; ECHO Klassik Awards; and a Grammy nomination, among other honors.
