  9. I wanted to see the venue (newest in the Arts District), and it is beautiful, perfect for acoustic jazz. The set was not great or anything, but it was modestly enjoyable, particularly the quieter pieces where he played soprano. I quite like his bassist Eric Revis. The amusing point was when he announced he was playing an Andrew Hill song, and like two people cheered. So probably not too many Andrew Hill records in the audience's collections. Basically, I'm not feeling an irresistible urge to order Branford CD's today, but I probably would go see him again in the right circumstance.
  10. Last night, Branford Marsalis Quartet at Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District.

  18. There are no future bookings listed on his website at present.
  19. And I thought Charlie Christian was the last jazz thing happening in Oklahoma. In the meantime, we need a volunteer to do reconnaissance. Your safety cannot be guaranteed, however.
  20. Yes, it all seems like a folly. If it were a Saturday night booking, I might well go see Christian Scott, or Jakob Bro in a few weeks (actually on a Friday), if it lasts that long.
  21. Ethan Iverson is not in The Bad Plus anymore; he has been replaced on piano by Orin Evans. Too bad Tulsa is a four hour drive away.
  22. Duet Jazz Club opens in Tulsa, with Christian Scott on opening night (October 4) and The Bad Plus the next night. https://www.facebook.com/pg/duetjazztulsa/posts/
  23. I hope the great Dr. Lonnie Smith is okay.
  24. Tony Williams Lifetime, Spectrum: The Anthology (Verve)
