Milt Jackson, The Prophet Speaks (Qwest)
-
James Williams, Everything I Love (Concord) Stan Getz, Reflections (Verve) Atomic Basie (Roulette/Japanese pressing) This copy was unusually heavy vinyl for Riverside and had very fine sound. Music was modestly good. Pretty restrained and he's no Kenny Burrell, but still a fine album.
-
Weather Report, Mysterious Traveler (Columbia) The Mundell Lowe Album (Riverside)
-
King Sunny Ade, Live at the Hollywood Palace
-
Charlie Byrd, Solo Flight (Riverside) Rex Stewart, Dixieland Free For All (Jazztone). With Herb Nichols on piano.
-
I'm certain I saw John Blake with McCoy Tyler later than 1983; definitely in 1984 and possibly 1985. I also saw John Blake as a leader, about the time of Twinkling of an Eye. Fantastic group.
-
On first listen, I like it. 43 minutes of music, not the usual exhaust the listener with 70 plus minutes. I've heard all of these musicians in person and like them all.
-
Johnathan Blake, Homeward Bound (Blue Note)
-
Egberto Gismonti, Solo (ECM)

I never really warmed up to Pablo era Joe Pass, but on Pacific Jazz, that is another story.
-
It seems like they used to have jazz there regularly. Maybe they are starting again? I recollect seeing Roy Hargrove, Joe Pass, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Jordan, and Kenny Burrell (as part of a guitar show) there, but that was long ago.
-
Pat Metheny Group, Offramp (ECM) Sonny Stitt, Stardust (Roulette)

The Meyerson would be a great place to hear a big band.

Austin does seem to have a new jazz club. Early in January, it has Joey DeFrancesco and Jeff Hamilton on the schedule. https://www.parkerjazzclub.com
