  2. My favorite comment to date! If anyone signed up and has not yet received a disc, please let me know. I don't plan on posting any answers for another week or so. Most likely March 24th, so there is still plenty of time. I'm very happy everyone is enjoying the music. This has really been a great experience.
  3. Back to work today and enjoying all the comments! You guys are amazing! Still a few that haven't been nailed down yet. Good work!
  4. A hint is contained in your first sentence!
  5. Just checking in to say great work so far! I love the comments, everyone. A few home runs. Some near misses. Keep 'em comin'! I'll try to check back later tonight.
  6. Thanks everyone! Actually, this is our second. We have a 20-month-old who was 11 lbs, 6 ozs.! Rest assured, both babies were delivered by cesarian section. Benjamin was delivered 4 weeks early because mom had pregnancy induced hypertension, or in other words, high blood pressure. Her doctor, named McGriff by the way , thought it would be best to go ahead and deliver. She was right. Everyone is fine! I can't imagine how big Ben would have been had he been full term . Sincere thanks to all!
  7. Benjamin Samuel Dye Born 3/8/2004 at 10:39 p.m. CST 10 lbs, 2 ozs. Happy Happy! Joy! Joy!
  8. I'm starting the discussion early because my wife just gave birth to our new son last night! Woo hoo! Let the discussion commence! I'll try to peek in here from time to time, but i'll be pretty busy this week. If you have a broken disc, or a missing disc, just let me know and I or someone else will try to take care of the problem. Enjoy!
  9. Hey everyone! Just got back from the hospital! It's a boy! Benjamin Samuel Dye born March 8th at 10:39 p.m. CST. 10 lbs 2 ozs 21 1/2 inches long. I'm gonna start the discussion thread today since I will be busy for the next week or so. Have at it!
  10. Well if they arrive as fast as yours, then we'll start the discussion sooner! Also, there may be a situation where the discussion may have to go on without me for a bit. My wife is 9 months pregnant with our second son. She is due 2 weeks from this coming Monday. However, due to some precautions, there is the possibility that we may have to schedule the cesarian much sooner. Perhaps even this week! If that happens, then i'll either post here or let someone know to go ahead and get started.
  11. Blindfold Tests are Go! 1 package to South America was sent last week. 11 overseas packages were sent yesterday at 3 p.m. c.s.t.. 26 Domestic packages were sent today at 11:15 a.m. c.s.t.. I'll start the discussion thread on Monday the 15th, or sooner if shipments arrive quickly. If you'd like to participate, there still is time! Send me a PM and i'll send your discs tomorrow.
  12. GREAT record. You can even get a new vinyl copy! Do the Dap Dip!
  13. Due to an emergency root canal (ouch!), the mailing of BT 8 has been moved back to the end of this week. There is still time to sign up, so if you are interested, please email me or PM me with your address.
  14. Congrats, Dan! Is your new home far from Del Boca Vista? Oh, I'll be sending out BT8 today and tomorrow. Would you like me to send it to your new address?
  15. 36 people have signed up to date. If you don't see your name on the list, send me an email (jimdye@gmx.net) or PM me here. Still plenty of time to sign up. I am thinking the international discs will go out on Monday and the U.S. discs on Wednesday. So far, only one person has not wanted both discs! Remember, there is no obligation when you sign up. Thanks!
  16. A used CD was once new. (unless you have a promo or cut-out, and thats a whole 'nother argument) When it was first purchased, it did put money into the artists pocket. With a CD-R, the artist is never paid.
  17. Maybe it was just a copy that was once owned by Darrell Waltrip?
  18. Thanks to my federal tax refund, I just picked up a new 10 gig iPod at Target for 209.99! I saved almost 90 bucks. They were closing out the old stock to make way for the larger 15 gig models. I just love it. The 3rd generation iPods are even better than the older ones. Jammin out to some Donald Byrd as I type this.
  19. Considering Snoop is on the box, perhaps the product should be called Microsoft Wizzle, my nizzle.
  20. OK. Here are my comments I typed up as I listened to the disc. I loaded up the test on my new iPod and am digging these sounds at work. I just found out that I am going to be out of a job on April 27th, so this is a good diversion. Heck with productivity. Screw 'em. Here goes... 1. This reminds me of 'The Art of Noise'. I think they had a take on Dragnet that sounds like this. Similar feel. Cool. 2. Hip! A modern big band with a fun and goofy arrangement. 3. Another big band. The first 3 tunes have a similar feel. Perhaps this is the theme of the disc? Swingin' hip tunes? Has a film music feel to it. Maybe a bit Kentonish. 4. Jerome on alto? Another larger group. Nice! 5. Bari! Nice melody. Still has that hip feel to it. Good. 6. Is this a hip lounge compilation? Loungy sounding big-bands? I imagine myself wearing a smoking jacket, drinking a martini with a hot chick on each arm. 7. I like this tune the best so far, Maybe its the doorknobs. Great trumpet solo. 8. Back to a 'Pink Panther' type feel again. This test fits your moniker, Man with the Golden Arm. 9. What a goofy solo! 10. Latin beat. Good execution, but not my bag. I could do without the vocals. 11. More latin beats. I like this a bit more than the last, but it's nothing I would listen to on a regular basis. 12. Great Sax solo. Another favorite on this collection. 13. Lots of great sax solos on this set! Is that Toots Thielmanns? Excellent. 14. More Toots? I just don't know many harmonica players. Its ok, but I like the previous tracke better. 15. Step into the echo chamber! Nice playing, weird effects. 16. The last few tracks have has strange effects/synths. This one left me a bit cold. Still has that hip feel, though. 17. More synth? Yuck. Don't like the electronics on this one at all. 18. Back to the Film Noir feel. Is this from Lift to the Scaffold? 19. Good. A long track. Cool mute trumpet solo. 20. I like this vocal better than the other. Still not nuts about vocals. Nice way to end the set. Thanks for the interesting set of tunes, Man with the Golden Arm! Now I can read this thread! [edited for layout and to add a second hot chick on my other arm while listening to track 6]
  21. Kind of reminds me of the Avanti. B) .
  22. I think this may have come from the television show 'Ed'. It is a production of Letterman's company Worldwide Pants BTW... Maybe they borrowed it from something else. I think there was an episode where either Phil Stubbs or Warren Cheswick was trying to come up with a new catch phrase. [edit]...I was wrong. The catch phrase from the show was "Shave My Poodle!" I still think there may be some Ed-Waffle connection.
  23. I hate it when rumors are spread on the radio that are completely false. Jerome was never 'down-and-out'. Whether working as a sideman or with some show on Broadway, Jerome was always in demand. He knew how to take care of business and had a home in Seacaucus, NJ with his wife for the last 10 or more years of his life. Prior to that, he lived and worked in LA making hundreds of appearances as a studio musician going back to the early 70s. He recorded his last album as a leader, Jazz Station Runaway for TCB in the mid 90s. He passed away in 1999 (so much for Penguins accuracy) and had a very rich and rewarding life. He always was able to make a very good living doing exactly what he loved. Playing music.
  24. When are we gonna get a Weed smilie to go with Ben?
