  1. Member #4! Organissimo Forum Fun Fact: 3 of the first 4 members here are named Jim! When the BNBB ship was going down, I remember discussing options with everyone. As soon as B3-er fired this baby up, I made the jump. I still read a couple of other boards on occasion, but consider this my home.
  2. Received my discs today. Thanks, Dan!
  3. What a great name! I can hear Chris Berman now...
  4. Go Titans! They lost Eddie George (DAL), Jevon Kearse (PHI), Justin McCariens (NYJ), Robaire Smith (HOU) and Frank Wycheck to retirement. Big holes to fill all around. However, It's still the Air McNair show. 2nd-year wide receiver Tyrone Calico is looking great in camp and is going to have a breakout year. The Titans had a GREAT draft. Everyone is talking Colts, Jags and Texans in the AFC South. Somehow they forgot the fact that the Titans are the NFLs winningest team in the last 5 years. I predict they'll come in second in the AFC south behind Peyton and his Colts, but they'll still get a wild card berth in the playoffs. PLAYOFFS???!!!??
  5. One of my favorite mp3 blogs, Soul Sides has Willie Mitchell's version of Take Five done in 4/4. Strange, but pretty groovy. Soul Sides Willie Mitchell - Take Five
  6. Absolutely! When I think of a recognizable tone, Steve Lacy is the one who stands out.
  7. I read an article a couple days ago in the Washington Post (subscription required) about Akin Fernandez, a Nigerian born man who lives in London. Fernandez began recording broadcasts of shortwave numbers stations about 12 years ago. Numbers stations are believed to broadcast encrypted messages to spies or agents around the world. I used to do a lot of shortwave listening when I was younger and I always wondered what those stations were. The band Wilco used and also named their album after one of the recordings on this compilation. I'm not a conspiracy theory guy. I never watched the X files or anything like that, but I find these recordings endlessly fascinating and chilling. Check 'em out. 10. Here we go! 1. Right from the start you can tell this BFT came from Brazil. I love the rhodes, so this is an easy sell for me. The vocal harmonizing is nice. Good soprano sax tone. Good solo. Great start to the test! 2. I don't recognize the tenor. Nice melody. Pleasant track. I can't tell if this is a younger cat or an older guy. I am thinking older as the tenor solo progresses. I liked it, but not too memorable for me. 3. 3 Saxes in a row! Alto this time. What's next, Bari? Again, a nice solo. No clue on the players. Phil Woods, maybe? 4. Now this tune I know! I was just listening to a different version on a recent RVG (TRACK 5). I haven't heard this version before. They must have recorded it in Mammoth Cave! Great track. The alto sax player sounds a bit like Dolphy! Just great. 5. Nice post-bop. I like the trumpet and sax interplay. Simple, yet catchy. Sounds like something that might be on the Criss-Cross label. 6. Love those doorbells! The theme is familiar, but again, maybe not. 7. Nice piano intro, but then it falls into smoothie territory for me. The piano work saves it, but I don't care for the drumming or fretless bass. Interesting. I may have to give it another chance. 8. Ahhh. That's better. I prefer this kind of groove much more. Excellent. Great ensemble playing. Great solos. I'll have to find this. 9. The Duke! No idea on the musicians. Must have been recorded in the 80's. That bass sound is unmistakable. 10. Great duet. William Parker? Love the groove. Another add to the must get list! 11. Nice contemplative piece.Impressionistic. Satie-like in some ways. Beautiful. 12. Great segue. This has a classical feel to it too. Even before those violins jumped in! Guitar? Voice? Wow, this one kept me thinking throughout! Very cool. 13. Another outstanding track! Superb. I like the simple conga groove. Mesmerizing. 14. Almost like the intro to Maiden Voyage. I think I recognize the melody here. It's slowed down from the version I know. Is this a Chick Corea tune? Cool and mysterious. I liked it a lot. I have the feeling this is a pop tune. 15. ...and a nice vocal tune to end the set. I'm not big on vocalists, but this is nice. Thanks Marcus for a great BFT. I'm going to do a lot of listening to this one.
  11. Received the disc today. Thanks very much!
  12. The iPod will work as a voice recorder with the addition of an iTalk made by Griffin Technology. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/...k/techspecs.php You have to have the iPod set to do manual updating. If it is set for automatic updating, then your iPod will be made to match your music library as soon as you connect it to your computer.
  13. Yeah, Smith is going to be a GREAT addition to the Titans. George spent the day talking with Dallas. Reporters say that he'll be a Cowboy by this time tomorrow. Funny thing is that the deal he'll sign is just about exactly what Tennessee offered. Looks like there was more to the negotiations than just money. Pride cometh before the fall. I wish him well. He was a great player for this franchise for many years. This local opinion piece sums it up well. Eddie has only Eddie to blame for his release By Greg Pogue / Columnist Ripples of emotion evoked from the Titans’ release of Eddie George will widen and inevitably diminish as time goes by. But like the initial splash, the turbulence is greater at the epicenter as it carries waves to their eventual disappearance. One day this will all be history. The Titans will bring the retired franchise’s all-time leading rusher back to The Coliseum for a halftime proclamation, surely to be bolstered by a roar of “Eddie, Eddie, Eddie.” But if old No. 27 should ever return to The Coliseum in another team’s uniform, then the chant should be “Greedy, Greedy, Greedy.” Or, better yet, “Foolish, Foolish, Foolish.” Because what happened Wednesday did not need to go down that way. Instead, those whispering nonsense into the former Heisman Trophy winner’s ear have done him a great disservice. We’re talking about agent Lamont Smith, whose shenanigans throughout the process have bordered on the comical. Maybe he needs to move out of Denver because he’s getting light-headed breathing all that mountain air. The Titans did everything within sound business reason to allow George to finish his career as a Titan. Then again, when you’re Tennessee general manager Floyd Reese and bargaining with fools whose concept of reality is way out of whack, then what’s the surprise? So, when Eddie returns for his post-retirement acknowledgment, then praise will come from this corner. In the meantime, let’s call it like it is. To wit: • George’s claims the reason his production diminished in recent years is directly related to his role in the offense. But in the Super Bowl season of 1999, George carried the ball 320 times. Last season, he was still getting his touches, carrying the ball 312 times. • Smith suggested George’s reduced yards per carry in recent years was because problems on the offensive line had not been addressed. We didn’t hear that from Eddie the last five years. While there has been rotation at center, the inside guard tandem and outside tackle duo helped produce a top-10 NFL offense last season. • Smith said his client was stereotyped because of age, which reaches 31 in late September. But that’s like saying two people who buy the same car on the same day — with one driving only to church on Sundays and the other roaring cross country on a weekly basis — still have the same car. You might fix it up to look nice — and Eddie has always passed the look test — but it’s more about what’s under the hood. Furthermore, his upright running style allows more pounding than a juking back who’s hard to hit. Can you say high mileage? This is not to say there shouldn’t be much appreciation for the way Eddie George went about his business as a Titan, both on and off the field. He has been the heart and soul of the team, even while the offense has become more about NFL MVP quarterback Steve McNair. But as Eddie is lured by misguided hopes of greener grass elsewhere, he carries with him an unrealistic expectation level from fans who’ll be looking for the Eddie of old. But back home with the Titans, he would be placed in the best situation to succeed. One day, I’ll get around to thanking Eddie for the good times. But not today. He should still be a Tennessee Titan ... and it’s his fault he’s not.

  16. Er...the cool factor is still going strong. Jobs still commands the front cover of national news weeklies: The iPod mini comes in several colors. Also, you can send your regular iPod to ColorWare and for 50 bucks, they'll paint it for you. Also, you can get songs from an iPod to your hard drive. There are several hacks out there for Mac and PC that allow one to do this.
