  1. This is being discussed elsewhere on the Board. Giving it a spin (fine album, my copy is the stereo release)
  2. A list of releases from the Giganti Del Jazz label which was the first incarnation of the Grandi Del Jazz... I Giganti Del Jazz A liberal mix of legitimate (?) reissues and illegitimate boots!
  3. If you want to listen to the original Massey Hall recording without bass overdub, get the Mingus Complete Debut Recordings box A cheaper alternative is this CD reissue:
  4. My old copy had a gold cover with black. Don't remember the label color. This was directly purchased from Sun Ra back in 1967. Cover is metallic silver colored and still has its original gloss! Now spinning: Gene Ammons 'Late Hour special' (Prestige, mono blue label, stereo audio)
  5. No but I have a feeling that in that particular case no news is good news!
  6. Charles Mingus led a couple of sessions in the late '40s for the label. They were included in the Uptown Charles 'Baron' Mingus CD.
  7. None. There may be lesser recordings by Bird but not one that should be ignored!
  8. The Roy Eldridge Complete Verve box, disc 3
  9. That's the only Patton vinyl I'm missing - and going by the comments here it will probably stay that way (unless I luck out with a fluke find - zippo chance). Looks like the most reliable listening option on that session would be the Mosaic Select. The defect is a minor one. The groove skips at the start of Jimmy Ponder's intervention on 'Early A.M.'. All that is required is to lift the cartridge one groove away to continue to enjoy the music. Good exercise for elderly BN groovers
  10. Sun Ra 'Other Planes of There' (Saturn, orange label)
  11. It's not a regular big band but when Martial Solal assembles his Grand Orchestre (Dodecaband), it always produces impressive music!
  12. and I thought I was the only one with a defective copy
  13. Curtis Amy Select, disc 2 one of the best Selects
  14. The Club Saint-Germain albums were recorded for RCA. chewy is looking for Columbia (Epic) albums. I am one of the happy fans who attended the 1958 Olympia concert and Club Saint-Germain evenings! Now where is my time machine?!?
  15. The Pepper-Knepper Quintet 'With Pepper Adams and Jimmy Knepper' (MetroJazz/MGM Japan)
  16. You mean that one then? From 1958: It came out in the US on Epîc (with a different cover).
  17. He'll be missed! Loved him in the John Cassavettes films he played in ('Husbands' in particular).
