Very fine set, on a similar level to London Concert (Wave) , it was my first exposure to Warne and Lee when I picked it up in the early 90s. Sound quality is fine but nothing special. But not the same session, I presume. Thanks. The Pausa album is from a May 1976 session at Ronnie Scott's. The London Concert at the Shaw Theater is from a March 1976 gig. The Pausa LP was widely available when it came out. Can't say the same thing about the Wave 'London Concert'. Never ran into that one!

I have an original copy of the JCOA release of that album. The one before the JCOA/Virgin edition. It came with a JCOA/New Music Distribution Service flyer. The back cover was black, indeed. The red labels were the same as the red labels that are on the discogs.com page but came with a 'Made in the USA' sign at the label's bottom. Love that album!

Urtreger remains Monsieur Urtreger. Here is another video (from 1961) of Monsieur Urtreger: Blues for You with Sacha Distel and Jean-Louis Viale! Is that Pierre Michelot on bass??? Brownie, would he not be something like "Monsieur le Chevalier" Urtreger? Sorta like "the Reverend Mr. Smith"? Non! Non! Plain 'Monsieur Urtreger' he remains Stéphane Grappelli, Martial Solal, Didier Lockwood, Michel Legrand were previously honored.

I did see him when he walked in at the Club Saint-Germain at around the same time. He did not play and did not stay very long. I did see Billie Holiday at the same Hotel d'Angleterre (Prez recommended her the hotel). Even spent an evening with her and several friends!

The New Year list of recipients of the Legion of Honor includes pianist René Urtreger who was made a Knight in the Order. The Order is the highest decoration in France. Too many persons who make the list these days are not worthy of it. Not the case for Urtreger. One Frenchman worthy of the honour! The 75-year old Urtreger is still making clubs (and records) appearances and plays better than ever!

François Postif, indeed! François and I cowrote a series of articles in the late '50s. I was even supposed to be along when he interviewed Lester Young at the Hotel d'Angleterre on the Rue de la Boétie (off the Champs-Elysées avenue) but could not make it because I had to complete work on some damn highschool studies

I had not asked for anything but I mentioned in one of the early O. threads that 'A Documentary' was one album I was really looking for. P.D. asked me for my adress and a few days later an envelope arrived at home with the copy. I emailed him with profuse thanks and asked him if there was anything I could get him in return? No reply... PD was also the person who provided me with a copy of this. So three of us owe him our thanks. Incidentally, Riverside also issued as single LP, Satchmo and Me: Lil Armstrong's Own Story - A Jazz Doumentary. Have an LP copy of that one. I'm in the same boat. Bean copy from P.D., Lil L.P. original purchased during my collecting years.
