  1. Excellent idea! I have some of those sessions on this double CD: but it stops at the July 1950 dates!
  2. Edmond Hall did record for Supraphon with the Gustav Brom orchestra in Brno. A June 1960 that produced four sides: - Swingin' - Sweet Georgia Brown - Weary Blues - Dawn on the Desert The four sides were later released on a Rarities LP that also included four rare sides by the Texas Blues Destroyers (with Bubber Miley)! Would love to listen to all these!
  3. Sheila Jordan 'Confirmation' (East Wind)
  4. They're essential sides. Most of them are available on the Classics Mezz Mezzrow 1936-1939 CD. Also on a Hugues Panassié Sessions CD from the Hot Club de France that I see around off and on. Will try to pick it up for you!
  5. I'll second that. Some very remarkable sceneries in that area!

  7. Stan Getz/Kenny Barron 'People Time' (EmArcy), disc 1
  8. The Lord Discography has a listing for several tracks from the LP. Full of unknown (to non-Czechs) names except for Jan Arnet who plays bass on 'Fullhand'.
  9. Johnny Hodges 'Everybody Knows Johnny Hodges' (Impulse, mono)
  10. I would not purchase the Djangologie box for these three tracks. Presume they will be added to the third re-reissue box from Frémeaux! From neveronfriday: I'm not - from a distance - convinced by that Frémeaux series either. That mastering outfit I linked to does not at all sound like one that takes great care in restoring music like that and I highly doubt they were given access to any masters. François Terrazzoni who mastered with great care all the Django Frémeaux sets also mastered many Masters of Jazz releases (Ellington, Basie, Hampton, Charlie Christian, among others). He did a great job on all those!
  11. The Galliano set is released by Dreyfus and reissues albums produced by Dreyfus.
  12. The Hugues Panassié 1938 sessions for Victor with Mezz Mezzrow, Tommy Ladnier, Sidney de Paris, Sidney Bechet, James P. Johnson, Teddy Bunn, etc... preceded (and probably inspired) the BN Port of Harlem Jazzmen dates. These are all splendid sessions.
  13. The 'We Want Miles' exhibition closed on Sunday night. It was a huge success. The opening hours had to be extended to accommodate the flow of visitors. More than 75,000 attended this. The exhibition will next be on view at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts from April 30 to August 29. Don't miss it if you're in the area!
  14. I don't think touring the whole of Ireland in less than two weeks will be a very rewarding experience. Nothing special about the northern part. It's OK but not worth coming all the way from the other side of the Atlantic. May I suggest you concentrate on the western and southwestern section of this splendid country? Take time to really explore Donegal and Connemara countries then head south to Kerry. Southward, the Dingle peninsula is a must see area. You'll need to spend more than two days there to really feel that irish spirit! Killarney is fine but explore the southern shores in the area (may I recommend a visit to Valentia Island?) Also no need to worry about the rain. It comes with the territory and is very often interrupted by appearances of the sun.
  15. I still have the EMI/Pathe Djangologie LPs, but I went the Frémeaux route and have not looked back since. The sound is excellent, the listings are as complete as can be and everything (and I mean everything) is there. The price of the Centennial boxes are quite reasonable. If I had to do it again, the Frémeaux sets would be my choice.
  16. Disques Dreyfus is still an independent label!
  17. The CD-sized Djangologie box. Digipacks inside.
  18. I have those. I just want more
  19. Bernard Peiffer 'Piano A La Mood' (Decca, mono)
  20. Calling Mr. Nessa! Calling Mr. Nessa!
  21. You will HAVE to visit the Alhambra! Consider taking at least a full day to visit it. It is huge and one of the most beautiful place in the world. Other places of interest (there are plenty) include the Capila Real, the Monasterio de San Jeronimo... And don't skip a visit to the Albaysin area. Granada is not too crowded with tourists in February so it will be a very good time to walk around. You may even be lucky with the weather! As for restaurants, just be aware that Spaniards enjoy their meals late in the day. (3PM for lunches and 9PM for dinners). But there are enough very decent places for tapas that will keep you happy and very well fed. No need to try non-spanish places. The vast majority of spanish tapas places are delightful.
  22. Anybody heard this? There seems to be little music on this CD. Unless I am wrong, there must be quite some other material (from other dates/musicians) that could have been added to it!
  23. Not looking for any of these three boxes (I have the Lester Young/Basie one) but must say the prices are really tempting!
  24. This looks real good and is a very useful site. The only item I see missing is the very big Jazz In Paris box that gathered all four of the compilations sets. Can't find a reference to it on the usual websites now but it showed up in stores one year ago!
