    Sam Most

That one is really good! Sam Most plays clarinet, not flute here. Very interesting sextet date (with Doug Mettome, Davey Schildkraut, Bob Dorough, Tommy Potter, Paul Motian) plus large ensemble date (with Frank Rehak, Dick Meldonian and others added, also Pettiford replacing Potter) all playing Bob Dorough's arrangements of tunes like 'Strictly Confidential', 'Serpent's Tooth', 'Confirmation', etc.. Fresh Sound reissued this during their vinyl days!
  3. Sonny Stitt 'Low Flame' (Jazzland, mono) with Don Patterson, Paul Weeden and Billy James
  4. OK, thanks all! I'm sold and will get this book!
  5. I should be able to score some Selects in lieu of payment
  6. "Should" as in they probably will? Or "should" as in "they won't, but goddamit, they should!" I hope it's the former! Should as in 'they probably will'. I was told Mosaic was using the photo. I have yet to see the booklet with my own eyes!
  7. The liner notes should include a photo of Oliver Nelson with the Jazz Interactions Orchestra I took at Central Park back in 1967 -_-
  8. Missed this book (Klook, The Story of Kenny Clarke) when it was published in England in the early '90s. I may be able to get a copy. Anybody read it? Is it a recommended biography?
  9. Django Reinhardt 'Djangologie' (Pathé) - volume 6 (1937) - volume 7 (1937-1938)
  10. Several titles from those Montmartre evenings originally came out on the Danish Debut label. Latest legitimate incarnation are on the Black Lion 24-bit remastered editions. The Black Lion 'A Night in Tunisia' CD has several of the titles with Byas in splendid form throughout plus excellent sound!
  11. Yeah, too bad Grimes isn't doing any straight-ahead gigs. Maybe it's something to do with the green bass juju... Never mind! Just feel time is being wasted This trio reunion would be kicks for everyone involved
  12. Wonder what the vinyl box of this Green/Clark would reach?!?
  13. Milt Jackson 'Plenty, Plenty Soul' (Atlantic, black label) with Joe Newman, Jimmy Cleveland, Cannonball, Lucky Thompson, Horace Silver and others playing superb arrangements by Quincy Jones!
  14. One of Sweden's best musician has gone away... From AP:
  15. Bud Powell 'Hot House' (Black Lion/Trio Japan) the liverecording with Johnny Griffin!
  16. The Decca Basie booklet credits the digital transfers to Steven Lasker, Doug Schwartz and John R.T. Davies! then adds: 'Audio restoration and reprocessing by Erick Labson (utilizing the Sonic Solution ''NoNOISE'' system)'.
  17. Philly Joe Jones 'Round Midnight' (Lotus) Italian bootleg of a PJJ concert in the beautiful city of Pesaro. Philly Joe had Dizzy Reece and Danish tenor player Bengt Jaedig (listed as Ben Jedig in the non-existent liner notes) with him.
  18. That's the one. Cover by Jean Feldman.
  19. I have a Lionel Hampton Big Band (with Arthur Hoyle, Slide Hampton, Oscar Dennard, etc...) live concert vinyl on the Adès label. Produced by Alan Douglas. The label reads 'Adès Production Alan Douglas'. A pretty rare item. Can't ever having seen (or heard about) an Ellington album on that label.
  20. The Grouch attitude was discussed in this previous thread.
  21. Me wrong indeed, the Decca set is a 3CD. Agree with the sound but the Decca set seems to be readily available. I prefer the sound on the Masters of Jazz series but they are not available any more. Never heard those Basie Heps!
  22. A review of the Carnegie Hall 2003 concert: http://www.bboogie.com/Ornette_Coleman.htm
  23. Bode Miller would not miss(take) a Saturday night out and was seen downing beers past midnight in Sestrieres. Any wonder he did not do well in the downhill race a few hours later?
  24. That Grant Green/Sonny Clark set is mighty expensive. Specially when you can have the same music on the regular BN label!
  25. The Decca 2CD set and 'The Atomic Basie' are excellent starters. Would also recommend 'Basie at Newport' which was reissued by Verve not very long ago.
