Wish I could see that Erich Salomon exhibition! Salomon did pioneering work in modern photojournalism.
French Premier Aristide Briand who appears delighted in noticing Salomon in the photo that Ubu posted also said that no political gathering could be deemed important unless Salomon was present.
There is a prestigious Dr. Erich Salomon Prize for lifetime achievement in photography that is awarded annually in Germany.
The 2005 Prize went to my former boss and great friend Horst Faas.
Couple of favorite versions:
- Gerry Mulligan and Ben Webster on Verve (The Complete Sessions reissue includes two takes of the song),
- Coleman Hawkins and Confreres (Verve), one of the confrere on this 'Sunday' is Roy Eldridge!
The 1985 Manhattan DMM pressing was the first issue with the original Reid Miles cover.
The session was originally issued in 1976 on a Freddie Hubbard twofer that also came out under the title 'Here To Stay' and which had this session plus the 'Hub Cap' session.
The session was scheduled for release after it was recorded in December 1962 but the LP never came out, shades of 'Back to the Tracks'...
Those King's are excellent. I have 'Matador' and 'Solid' in the King pressings. The Mosaic Green/Clark vinyl is a good sub for the others.
Oh yeah!!!
Love the four BN Kings that Michael Cuscuna resurected from the BN vaults for release!
Claude, whatever your friend was having when he saw that, I'll have the same
He was probably refering to the Lionel Hampton shorts that were shown on Mezzo TV Wednesday evening.
Watched them. Most of them produced by Will Cowan. Videos were horrible tenth-generation copies.
Did not catch any Bird but caught a glimpse of Wes Montgomery who was allowed a very brief solo space in one of the video, also Benny Bailey was in the trumpet section.
The Parker your friend mentioned was probably singer Sonny Parker who was introduced in one of the shorts!
