  1. P.D., I have vol. 3 of those Lee Wiley releases. There is a two-page book that advises to visit the www.baldwinstreetmusic.com site for information about the content!
  2. Always a treat to listen to that reunion where Arnett outblows the competition!
  3. I have the 'Face To Face' BN mono original with all the right qualifications! And in superb condition! But the 'Stop and Listen' is one of those damn French job
  4. Cobb was a Monster! Played on crutches after his legs were injured in a car accident a long time ago. He was amazing! Love the various sessions he recorded for Black and Blue. They have been reissued recently and all are worth seeking!
  5. Daniel, avoid the centre de Paris if you're looking for one of these boxes at cheap prices. They sell here for something like €50 ($60). I recently had Tooter bring me one of the boxes here. The Jazz in Paris boxes were available at much cheaper prices in Germany and other countries. Figure it out!
  6. Informatively - and mainly for the Jazz In Paris completists posting here - the FNAC stores are distributing a smashing 54-page glossy booklet under the title 'Jazz in Paris Chronology' which lists the main jazz events in Paris from 1917 to 1959. The booklet also includes rare excellenty reproduced photos, posters, album covers. Another classy job from the creators of the series. The booklet is given free to any purchaser of one of the four large size JinP boxes that came out a couple of years ago. It has the same size as the boxes. The offer is valid for the next two weeks. Probably also available at non-French FNAC stores. Text is in French and English!
  7. Zoot Sims 'Goes To Jazzville' (Dawn) excellent quintet date with Jerry Lloyd, Johnny Williams, etc...
  8. The Rich ARE different From AFP:
  9. Very glad that Kasper Collin managed to complete his project. He has been working on this for several years and with practically no budget. I have yet to see the completed film. Kasper contacted me a long time ago when he was looking for photos of Albert Ayler and had no money for purchasing them. Sent him a number of images. I'm sure he made good use of those!
  10. Chuck is my teacher! Glad to see him back here
  11. The CIA did it
  12. It is very interesting. Thanks for posting it, Lazaro Vega!
  13. $1,153,88 was the winning bid Is that a new record for this box?
  14. Bill de Arango Thanks Guy! I couldn't find it, probably because I searched for "Bill De Arango" instead of "Bill DeArango". 'Arango' did the trick. That 'Search' function has to be treated gently -_-
  15. Not in a killing mood these days, Marcus However I take my jazz straight. And I take my classics straight. Just not interested in the Loussier mix!
  16. Bill de Arango
  17. Milt Hinton/Wendell Marshall/Bull Ruther 'Basses Loaded!' (RCA Victor mono) with arrangements by Al Cohn (the Hinton sides), Billy Byers (Marshall) and Manny Albam (Ruther) Woody Shaw 'Little Red's Fantasy' (Muse) with Frank Strozier, Ronnie Matthews, etc...
  18. Clifford, you probably are aware that Steve Lacy also used a Bob Thompson sketch for the cover of the Silkheart CD '5xMonk 5xLacy'. Beautiful!

    Ray Barretto

From AP: Get well soon, Ray!
  20. Managed to get a copy of the VHS 'Bud Powell/Erroll Garner' from the 'Averty Jazz' series that was released in 1992 by the government-owned INA (Institut National de l'Audiovisuel) and the FNAC stores. The series came and went fast and the copies have long been unavailable. The videos were the equivalent of the CD series that came out around the same time on the Esoldun label and contained ORTF (the national radio) broadcasts of Paris concerts by Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Roland Kirk and others. The series disappeared after heirs of musicians (T.S. Monk was very prominent in the case) started a lawsuit and won their case. The video series included some of the best live jazz shows that were broadcast on French TV. Most of the shows were directed by Jean-Christophe Averty. The Bud Powell section of the VHS include the October 1959 'Jazz au Club St-Germain' show (with Clark Terry, Barney Wilen, Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke) and the December 1959 'Modern Jazz at the Blue Note' show (with Michelot and Klook shining on 'Get Happy' and 'John's Abbey' plus Lucky Thompson and Jimmy Gourley added for an amazing 'Anthropology'). The Club St-Germain date was spread on various CD releases on Mythic Sound and on Pablo. They appear on the video as they were broadcast at the time. The two trio sides of the Blue Note date appeared on Mythic Sound too and also on the Xanadu LP 'Bud In Paris'. Mythic Sound included the opening portion of 'Anthropology'. The 5-minute video brings back Bud Powell, Jimmy Gourley and Lucky Thompson solos. The track (and obviously the TV broadcast) ends abruptly as Lucky Thompson and Klook trade fours! The VHS also includes a Errol Garner concert in Paris in 1972. I'm sure Martha Glaser must have loved going to court to eliminate this release!
  21. Bud Powell 'Bud In Paris' (Xanadu)
  22. Ron, the box all had the other discs plus that additional disc 3! If you find yours missing, I'll mail it to you... ... but you're welcome to pick it up in beautiful Paris
  23. I happen to like that Reid Miles cover and would love to get a copy of that release. It is displayed in the book 'Jazz Albums Covers, The Rare and the Beautiful' by Manek Daver. The book has a section which has good reproductions of all the covers of the Blue Note 10" LPs Modern Jazz series. The photos on the cover of the Original French Vogue issue are uncredited.
  24. The Dexter Gordon Prestige box I received from 2001 had two copies of disc 3! If anybody purchasing the Dex box misses that disc, PM me!
  25. Benny Waters 'In Paris' (President), nice date with Eddy Louis, Jimmy Gourley and others...
