MLB 2018: let the games begin!
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I meant to mention also how the commentary that the Dodgers were awful with men on base against the Brewers, and how they strikeout a ton and hit a lot of homers. Instantly thought about the similarity to the Yankees. And the contrast in how the Sox go about their offensive bid-ness. -

I think they'd be hard-pressed to sweep in LA. Most pleasing about last night was the way the offense kept coming at them, and the way Kimbrel handled the final inning. As for Eovaldi Cora has said nothing will be decided about games 3 and 4 until after Game 2 is in the books. I wonder though if the plan is for Eovaldi to go Game 3 and for Porcello to go in Game 4, and be available for an inning tonight. I like the idea of Eovaldi lined up for Game 7 if it went that far. Now let's see if Price really figured something out and will continue to pitch well in October. A two game lead would be sweet. The Dodger starter had a great ERA in the regular season but not sure if he's so dominating as to shut us down (and he stunk on ice vs Milwaukee in his last start). I am sure we'll make him work. -

Back to the Series. No Stephen Wright. And Pomeranz instead of Workman. First time in a while I have to question Cora's choices. If Wright is not able due to his knee, fine - but Pomeranz has been awful the entire season. Workman pitched quite well for most of the year, not well most recently. I wouldn't trust him for anything high lev. But if Pomeranz comes into a game, I guaran-damn-tee I am going to bed instead of watching the carnage. -
Just wondering, what is the circulation of guitar mags? Do they overwhelm DB and were there massive campaigns for some of these people? I'm grasping to explain the Buddy Guy showing. I don't have a problem with Ray Charles going in but Buddy is just so divorced from jazz I can't fathom it. yeah, Jazz, Blues and Beyond but really? OK I vote that we turn our attention to Grant Green. Get those guitar heads to get their heads on straight and vote for the deserving ... between them and us I bet we can get him up to the top 10.

Clickbait (the site, not Jim posting it) and I am the only one who thinks it in poor taste? -

I don't get "cash for new players". There was no free agency. Teams improved thru trades (and aging players aren't that attractive) or player development, which didn't take that much money, I don't think. If you had a break out star they were yours to keep and pay what you wanted thru the Reserve Clause. They certainly could have used cash to improve the park but I am not sure how much that would have helped since the columns that obstructed views were load-bearing, right? I mean, tremendous things have been done with Fenway but you can still get a ticket that says "OBS VIEW". -

Maybe Sale will get a belly button ring if they win. Did anyone really report that as a legit explanation? Seems like most of the media got the joke. In other news: Opposing manager will get huge ovation for each pre-game at Fenway - Cora could get some polite applause since he played for the Dodgers; Stephen Wright is eligible for the roster and is under consideration pending proof that he can move off the mound for defense and throw a simulated game; Betts might play 2B at Dodger Stadium, since JD has to play the field to be in the lineup; Kimbrel may have been tipping his slider which was spotted by none other than Eric Gagne, late-season near-disastrous pick up by the 2007 World Champs and supposedly corrected before Game 5. I am not sure it really matters as the guy still has to command both pitches and he so often loses that command. -

Interesting reasons why the Sox might prefer to get the Brewers: Better against righties than lefties and the Dodgers have three lefty starters; better against fastballs and the Brewers throw more of them; relievers haven't always been around the plate and the Dodgers are the most patient. There are a couple more reasons here: https://www.mlb.com/news/which-team-should-the-red-sox-want-to-play/c-299365554 -

Small steps Paul. You think Whitey Ford was Whitey Ford overnight? Don't answer that. And for the record I always said it was an awful signing. Winning it all this year, with Price as WS MVP wouldn't change that. -

That was game 2, not game 3 of the ALCS, and yes, that's the one. An out away from being the pitcher of record ain't so bad. -

Yes but with a not-horrible start that ended with a team win, followed by an excellent start in a pennant-clincher, he's clearly an improving post-season pitcher. Damn Mr. Pessimism is looking at the bright side for a guy I still despise, only partially for that gigantic contract and the overall results. -

Game is over if Benitendi misses. No way guy from 1st doesn't score while JBJ is tracking it down. He might not have had an extra jump on 3-2 but still ... it was do or die and Benitendi did it. And does anyone know that Sale is good for Game 6 even? When I hear that he still has trouble keeping solid food down that doesn't sound like a man ready to pitch at the MLB level. It could end up being E-Rod in game six if there is one and hoping for Sale in Game 1 next Tuesday. -

Instead of traditional teams I would have said "historic" franchises. No one or hardly anyone remembers the 1916 World Series. It would be a modern-day first between two franchises that have had their ups and downs but never met on the ultimate stage. And I hope nobody is jumping the gun. The Dodgers have to win one on the road, no guarantees. And the Sox are relying on David Price tonight and may not even have Sale back unless they reach the World Series. Astros can easily force game seven if their two best starters do the job and the bats feast on lefties as they have to date. Cora will surely manage like its the seventh game if he has a whiff of a win in the next game or two. -

Uh, yeah, not exactly, A guy who hates baseball and Joe West opined that it should have been a homer. That's not "Boston sports radio". Look, 'Stros fans, I was prepared for an overturn because I live my life being pessimistic in all things. My pessimism is all over every yearly thread including the times the Sox won it all. It's all part of the game. I'm pretty sure your team has put it behind them already. -

OK I just saw the Pearce head-over-heels-into-the-dugout clip. He's lucky he didn't break his freaking neck, and the team is extra lucky since I suspect they'd have to play Holt at 1B. -

And in a more recent connection everybody knows about, Dave Roberts will get a rousing ovation at Fenway when introduced, if both teams make it thru. Don't see that very often, and usually its when the opposing fans are offering hearty appreciation for the "help" received from someone on the other roster. -

All I was saying was October baseball under the stars, if practicable. I am sure Fox is dreaming right now of Dodgers - Red Sox, what is it second and fourth markets? And Red Sox Nation extends a lot further than Boston alone. -

You're really splitting hairs here, Aggie. Baseball is not football, with "ruling on the field stands" and 'ruling on the field confirmed". West went one way, and certainly could have gone the other way but he didn't. If there was no clear view of whether his glove broke the plane of the fence, blame the security guy leaning over and blocking that view. And since we're talking about old Country Joe, I meant to say yesterday that it seemed like he actually had a very good day at the plate. I thought I saw maybe 2 or at most 3 off-the-plate strikes, and no egregious inside the zone balls. So bravo Joe! They have to beat them with two lefties in a row, best part of the situation for the Astros. And maybe best thing that happens for the Red Sox is if Kimbrel is unavailable. I'd trust Barnes right now a lot more than him to close out a win. I hope the bats feel very loose and just get on top of Verlander and not let him dominate. About the interference here are two stills. Neither are remotely obvious to me, though I'll certainly agree that if the call went the other way it would be hard to overturn. Thanks again Joe! Gutsy call your colleague didn't have the nads to make before the legend of Jeter grew any more.
