  1. For me that song begins and ends with Hartman and Trane.
  2. yeah but you do see who his agent is. I am going to have to break that news to my Mom so she's aware he'll probably leave in a few years. They need to win again while they got him. As for Price, I would hope that the odds line up for him pitching well someday in October. I don't think the Astros are in his head like the Yankees but I also don't know how those better stats line up against Houston of the last two years vs earlier in his career when Price was a legit ace and Houston wasn't so awesome.
  3. Gregorious needs TJ surgery on his throwing arm. Supposed to be available for the 'bulk' of 2019. Injury occurred supposedly in second game of LDS. Why hello there Manny Machado.
  4. When is the last time a hurricane has been set to threaten Europe like this?
  5. Eric Gregg was terrible at strike calling but definitely not a full-of-himself guy. I remember when I lived in St. Louis on the last day of one season, final inning, Tom Brunanski ran out to LF and placed a hamburger on 3B, where Eric Gregg was umping. He finally noticed it and called time out, picked it up and went like he was going to take a bite, then laughed good-naturedly and handed it to the ballboy. Bruno was laughing uproariously at what he'd done.
  6. You make a joke and two days later its true ... ALCS umpiring crew has no Angel Hernandez, but Joe West is crew chief.
  7. Nor did I. Why would two of the good guys be involved (or even started) a shitty PD venture that hurts the legacy labels (which they aren't apart of but I don't think they'd want to make any portion of their nut that way.
  8. I don't think John's supposition is accurate. I think this is a new project by Zev and Cory Weeds to put out some of Zev's finds especially the Left Bank tapes he got. Maybe future Penthouse tapes will be here and not issued by Resonance?
  9. Come on Paul, haven't you heard of the international language of pitching? Slider, split, it can't be too hard to understand. In a very short period of time the Yankees have developed exciting young players. Cashman should get credit for that. The team has room now on the payroll to make a big splash this offseason - what I don't really know but the team is now constructed a lot like the Cubs and Red Sox. Cost-controlled young players augmented by some expensive veterans. Maybe the flexible payroll is more on ownership than Cashman or maybe its both. It still makes them able to afford impact talent on the market. I personally think the best thing they could do is cut Sanchez loose on someone because I don't see him learning to catch anytime soon and its a major problem in too many ways that won't be helped even if he becomes a steady 30 homer/.250 hitter. Wasn't that Girardi's problem that as a former catcher he couldn't stand to watch a guy that bad behind the plate?
  10. And yet, if Barnes had blown up in his inning, I would have been pissed that Cora had managed like it was an elimination game instead of a game in May. Setting aside the "pull him before it goes to hell" mentality that isn't open to much debate, what of Cora pulling an effective pitcher after 65 pitches and only five innings, for questionable relief options? Joe Maddon nearly ruined 2016 by pulling Lester early. If a starter is cruising and your bullpen isn't lock-down I say ride him longer, not shorter. Hell if he was willing to use Sale as he did, he should have let Porcello go, and have Sale ready to shut down a threat.
  11. Price vs Yankees: .273 BA, OPS .774 across 42 games Price vs Houston: .208 BA, OPS .595 across 14 games Much smaller sample size but unbelievably better results. Maybe it's finally time for him to win a post-season game. I'll still worry about all those righty power hitters aiming at the Monster though.
  12. They are doing CD at some point right? These would be the same source as the Three Sounds release on Resonance and the Wynton Kelly/Wes thing as well. I think they were pre-broadcast soundboard not compressed FM.
  13. Maybe what the Yankees need is better situational hitting, less all-or-nothing results. In the DH era, The Yankees hit worse than this year's .249 only three times - 1990 when they lost 95, and 2013-14 when they missed the playoffs. Obviously the homers made up for a lot of that but as they say things are different in October.
  14. We're getting passing showers from Hurricane Michael which is really fearsome now. In addition to that bit of good news, in the wake of the storm overnight low on Saturday is forecast to be under 70 - must be the first time in three months or so. Highs in the upper 80s but I have to expect a return to the low 90s before we see summer depart completely.
  15. Funny I just received a copy of the recording (not the release). Haven't really listened yet but I was very disappointed to hear Dex playing A La Modal on soprano. Your mileage may vary on that but I'd be much happier with Dex only on tenor all the way thru. I also got about 21 minutes of solo Haig before Dex joins him but I don't think Round Midnight made it on to my 'soundboard' recording.
  16. Well I have to start by pointing out that my prediction was accurate: the series was over in four games. I have to give credit to Angel for at least one call - I think it was the sixth or maybe the 7th but Vazquez went into the half-crouch for the high fastball and the Sox pitcher missed his spot by about 2.5 vertical feet, but was at the bottom of the zone, clearly a strike and he got the call. Too many umps ignore pitches that cross the heart of the zone but miss the target by a lot. This one was tougher since he had to be blocking the ump a bit but he called it a strike as he should have. Anyway I'll let you in on a secret: I don't stay up for this shit anymore. 6 am comes too early. I haven't stayed up past 10:30 or so for any of these games. If I wasn't so gray already I am sure Kimbrel would have put many more gray hairs on my head after last night. Can home field overcome a better roster? We will see. As for off-season that can be discussed in about three weeks.
  17. What tips this over to tasteless is the way his knees are bent, that damn saxophone is lining up directly with his junk.
  18. I am not sure about Cora's lineup moves this time, no not at all. Holt who hit almost .300 against lefties this year, is back on the pine. Vazquez, who hasn't caught Porcello all year, is behind the dish. I don't doubt his defensive skills and his bat is a little better than Leon but who wants Porcello teaming up with a guy he hasn't pitched to all season?
  19. In the history of best-of-five series with the 2-2-1 format, clubs with a 2-1 lead going into Game 4 on the road have taken the series 19 of 27 times (70 percent). Of those 19 series victories, 15 ended in Game 4. I can't figure out the rest of the breakdown so I'll just say that the safest thing is for the Sox to finish it tonight.
  20. So the question comes to mind, Jim: Did it occur to post this - seemingly obvious - political newsmagazine cover and, as a mod who should know and follow the rules, post something about "this could be construed as political but I see it as artful, and powerful, and indicative of the current conflict without taking a side. You may think I'm posting in a political way but that's not my intent."?
  21. All Floating Jazz titles are Chiaroscuro if I recall. I've probably avoided that one because of the flute references in the reviews but should probably reconsider sometime.
  22. I know that I perused this thread in the summer and saw your post. I did not notate it directly, as I recall there were a number of equally inarguable political photos, one of which I submitted for review. Inarguable, in my humble opinion. If there is any log somewhere of post reportings, you can see exactly if I referenced others in that submission without reporting each one or identifying other than saying "jeez there's a lot of political shit in this thread". For what it's worth, some may note that my long-running anti-Trump quote from Berkeley Breathed of Bloom County fame has been deleted from my signature. I did that yesterday in the spirit of "he who is without sin ...."
  23. I believe it was around that time I reported another post in this thread that was blatantly political, and also referenced that there were other such posts that leaped over the line. I think whichever mod looked at it just deleted whatever was specifically flagged and didn't go looking for the rest. Or maybe you got the flagged post and naturally skipped over your own contribution! I know I didn't bother to flag every offender and trusted the mods to do what was needed.
  24. No, not political because its simply a picture of a family, with a flag behind them. Time juxtaposed scowling Trump with arms crossed against crying innocent toddler to make a statement. Period. Whatever that statement is its at heart political and I don't give a shit what your definition of politics is.
