Awesome! I wonder how soon it will show. I bought the Willie Jones release on Amazon but they don't show anything for pre-order yet. And I saw the image of the back of the CD and two things stood out: Eric Reed on piano, and for those who think that the CD era led to filler being included due to the capacity available, this looks like a nice traditional 42 minute record.

Some never before seen photos from the Great Day In Harlem.”

They should sell prints; I'd buy the Golson - Sonny - Monk shot in a heartbeat. -
I guess I am supposed to have recognized the Charles Williams thing but I have to say I prefer the other Mainstream releases with Bubba Brooks. And of course there would be a third album I own but didn't recognize, that being the Little Man LP. Haven't heard that in years. As for Ralph Moore, what is this new release? I looked up WJ3 website and found the Willie Jones III (gee can I guess he is in charge of the label?) release My Point Is with Moore but I am guessing that's been out a year or more. Is there something coming on the label with Ralph as leader??

Well I feel silly. Walked out of my office to find the box freshly delivered by UPS. Turns out they are in Clearwater so I'll take quick delivery without email notification anytime.

Anyone used Arbors website for purchases? At $10 a pop I thought it was a good deal and good to support an independent label. Got email acknowledgement but that was Wednesday and nothing since. If anyone knows, are they usually slow? Is the website just for show? Thanks.

MLB 2018: let the games begin!

FWIW, google tells me: The Times’s Stylebook weighs in on the matter definitively, saying: So readers of the NYT perpetuated ON line but even they recognize its IN line for everybody else. Personally I am not even sure what I use, having more or less grown up in the NY metro area. -

They didn't even have sturdy cardboard carriers for drinks and hot dogs from the concession stand, leaving me trying to balance a box of dogs/fries on top of uneven height cups. Fortunately some friendly midwesterners helped me before half of her beer went down my leg. On the other hand we didn't really need transportation to and from, as we stayed at the Hotel Zachary. $880 a night including unfriendly Chicago taxes on tourists. Puts those seat prices in perspective. Here's the view from the hotel room balcony. -
Listening again before it goes in the stacks ... sure is FRISKY LIKE A MO'!

I always think of the diamond as the infield, which is 90 feet between bases and about another 20 feet of dirt before the outfield grass. But looking at google maybe the proper definition is the field in its entirety, in which case the distance from home plate to center field fence should be something like 400 feet to be comparable to the typical distance in the States. -

Here is the view Mom and I had at Wrigley Field in September. $475 for two seats, I'd say its equivalent to Section 105. I'd try the bleacher seats inside the foul poles. I don't know how steep the bowl is but those nosebleed seats behind home plate (the yellow) seem outrageous. Those are like $10 a pop in the States. -

I read that tickets are unbelievably expensive - the very best seats are in the section behind home plate but they may be crazy expensive. Best value is to get a seat at the margins of where the price points shift - no difference in view, better price. But in general I would want seats from the perimeter of the infield, in toward home plate. I haven't loved bleacher seats (out beyond the fences) but they do have the advantage of a straight-on view, just way back. Now that I've found a seat chart I'd try to get seats from 102 around to 114. If you get tickets please let us know what you thought after witnessing a game. -
Lou Donaldson and Sports
Dan Gould replied to Brad's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I don't think its fair use to copy and paste the whole thing, are you that interested in memories of American football and baseball, MG? To me the pull quotes are: Donaldson has played bebop, hard bebop, soul, and, of course jazz. Just to show the author doesn't know squat about jazz and .... He doesn’t play much anymore. Remember, he’s 92 with a bad tooth. “Old age got me,” he says. “Can’t play my horn with a bad tooth.” When asked if he’s going to get it fixed, he pauses. No more Alligator Bogaloo? No more Blues Walk? “I’m semi-retired,” he says, proudly. -

Here's what I found via a google search: https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&ei=_LP9W8C8HYzYtQX3rq3oBA&q=tv+headphones+built+in+equalizer&oq=tv+headphones+built+in+equalizer&gs_l=psy-ab.3...121458.128162..128562...0.0..0.162.934.10j1......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j35i304i39.57fIUfftpSw I assume TV is blue tooth compatible? It seems as though headphones with equalizers have pre-sets, so you can choose "treble" as an option - would that be enough of a boost to work, who knows? Here's the one with the equalizer pre-sets: https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Headphones-Equalizer-Wireless/dp/B079JFB616

Yeah its very weird that we're talking about modern hearing aids but they can't seem to set them by his audio-graph which shows the loss of acuity across the spectrum of sounds. Even if it had to be set for 'some' boost to low frequency they should be able to massively boost high and mid-range to get a good result. I really have to wonder either what aids the VA has or how they are getting adjusted for his needs.
-
I have no idea but its simply not true that hearing aids cannot be set to boost specific frequencies and leave others undisturbed. Has he actually been to an audiologist and had his hearing tested and had aids adjusted according to the results of his test?

Shearing and the Adderley Bros. Newport 1957
Dan Gould replied to Larry Kart's topic in Recommendations
So what is the basis for saying Wayne played particularly if you haven't heard Horace do his announcements? Wouldn't they listen to the tape before listing out performers? -

Looking thru their archives I find Newport concerts as early as 1955 (Brubeck; Bobby Hackett-Ben Webster). I could swear I've seen a web page dedicated to lineups from all the years but damn if I can find it now. That would at least verify which years Horace played at Newport (Wolfgang's has 1959 and 1960 available). As for Granz, my recollection was that Wein taped "everything" and sold to Wolfgang however many years ago. -

Shouldn't tapes be in the hands of Wolfgang's Vault? -
To be clear I don't see the Yankees trading from a position of weakness. They can sign Harper, no problem and keep Stanton too. I was just repeating what was stated in the Globe that they could work a Stanton trade if he is agreeable to a particular destination. But I don't think the Yankees will have any problem putting Stanton at DH for the duration of his contract, if Harper is in the fold and Stanton is odd-man off the field.
-
Nick Cafardo of the Globe is suggesting that the Yankees could move Stanton if they acquire Harper. He has a full no-trade so that makes it complicated but its not a bad consolation prize since he's owed $260, way less than it will cost to get Harper. And it would make the cost of Harper a lot more palatable without Stanton. If you had to pick one or the other to start a roster, would anyone take Stanton ahead of Harper? And specifically for the Yanks with the short porch. But on top of that one is strikeout prone, the other takes his walks. Harper would be a monster at Yankee Stadium, methinks.
-
Harper is entering his age 26 season. If anyone is worth ten years/gigantic money it's him. A-Rod was 31 at the time the Yanks signed him to that stupid contract. Harper is likely to still be a very good ballplayer by the time a contract ends if its kept to 10 years. Throw in opt-out clauses and what's the downside risk really? And does anyone think the Yankees changed things up and got under the luxury tax threshold without having an eye toward Harper or Machado, or for that matter, if they somehow allow themselves to be outbid, Trout? I think its an upset if at least one of Harper and Machado don't end up in pinstripes.
