  2. The Sox have achieved a sparkling winning percentage of 0.333 since Roman Anthony went down. Maintain that extraordinary achievement and its four more wins, or 86 total. Now you may say 6 against the A;s and Rays but then its last series against the Jays and Tigers ... 4 wins may be pushing it and it will hardly matter. 86 won't get anyone into October. No wonder Cora is saying that nothing is assured and they have to start winning games.

  4. Been planning this one for a while ... I put together snips of Percy from his appearance on WKCR's Jazz Alternatives as Musician Host. And today September 11, happens to be the anniversary of the day he bought his first tenor saxophone, with a little help from his Pop. This is chaptered so you can hover your mouse to see the topics covered. I hope people enjoy this, there are other clips I didn't use and some I couldn't find, including Percy talking about how different saxophone models are like a woman. So there might be a Part 2 coming up.
  5. Addition by subtraction! Darren May placed on IL ... hopefully never seen in a Red Sox uni ever again! Whatever happens with the two rookies I'd rather have them gain experience and do what they can than watch Mr. 100 Pitches to get thru 3 1/3 innings.
  6. MLB-related though not this season. Roy Halladay Fatal Accident Pilot Debrief BTW I have watched aviation accident documentaries for a long time and this youtube channel is very interesting/informative even for non-pilots.
  7. I guess what I am really asking is if anything will be online (is it known they have a system akin to Vanderbilt's Aviary system?) Housed in a library for specific requests by patrons, with limitations on access or duplication - it's just guaranteed to make this a theoretical resource except for highly motivated researchers and crazy collectors.
  8. Very curious about the photos in the archive ... and whether any of it will be available online or is it all to be held in NYC to only be seen by those who show up during business hours with specific requests? The latter doesn't exactly embody "everyone to see his archives".
  9. Brutal: Roman Anthony to IL with oblique strain and it sounds like he is done for at least the regular season. This is a gut punch and between that and the remaining schedule, the Red Sox will be lucky to sneak in as the third WC. Every team deals with injuries but the Red Sox lost their top two starters for 2024 innings pitched/Starts (Crawford and Houk), their 1B that they had no real back up for, and now a near-super star rookie that was igniting the offense with a .400 OBP. Brutal
  10. Interesting perspective: https://www.thefp.com/p/our-shared-reality-is-about-to-self-destruct-artificial-intelligence?r=px8hr&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
  11. Sorry I never got a chance to listen Ken, but work never cooperated and when it did, I was immersed in the latest Adelson murder trial on youtube. On number 9, I should have realized it wasn't Gene/Three Sounds by the bass solo which happened so rarely on their records and when Benny Green was ID'd I was sure it was on one of the Japanese CDs he did of Blue Note/funky 60s jazz. But again no time to investigate further and get that one.
  12. I don't know but I find this Jomboy Breakdown pretty damn funny.
  13. Well it seems to be true ... fun fact: Tolle's extension (or release point) is as close to the batter as Aroldis Chapman. Can understand how it helps generate swing and miss.
  14. I'll believe this https://www.mlb.com/news/payton-tolle-red-sox-callup?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage if its confirmed later today. On the one hand, they might want to keep him as a starter and not ask him to switch to the bullpen for the stretch drive, but bringing him up for this game in particular seems surprisingly aggressive in his development process. (and I thought the game that needed a replacement starter was Saturday.)
  15. Very slow with new uploads but here are three new Percy tracks, the first two surprised me (perhaps because I never knew the Andrews Sisters or subsequent performances).
  16. Not only are you welcome to jump into a BFT but new blood among compilers is welcome too! Excellent username, BTW. I was going to jump in with Benny Green as a guess on #9.
  17. At minimum and see how he progresses from there. Shut down middle and late relief is key if they make it to the playoffs. (And watching the video he doesn't seem that big ... more like a Linebacker than Crochet who I would liken to a Tight End.)
  18. Red Sox better be smart and have a certain lefty pitcher make it all the way from High A to the Majors in one year. Leftie Payton Tolle has a 133/23 K/BB ratio in 91 2/3 innings across High A, AA and AAA. What could it hurt to get him to the Fens by Labor Day and see how his stuff plays? Possibly their biggest weakness is the bullpen after Aroldis Chapman and a power lefty in the mix can't hurt.
  19. Have to say I am pleased that this thread made me want to dig out my transfer of the Angry Tenors LP and in flipping thru the binder with Quebec CDs, realized I received From Hackensack to Englewood Cliffs from some kind soul many moons ago.
  20. In an interview with Art Taylor, Percy describes "Ike QWEE-bek" as a "real buddy of mine". It never occurred to me that proper pronunciation might be a long "e" but that's how Percy said his name.
  21. Has it ever been discussed or confirmed the proper pronunciation of Quebec? (Spoiler: there's a recording of Percy France saying his name so I do have good authority as to proper pronunciation.)
  22. Nice! Reminds me of Percy France's saxophone interludes for a series of Mike Hammer books-on-tape that were released from about 1988-92, except that he never got more than about 28 seconds of playing time, on the out-credits. Subscribing for sure. Here's a direct link to the page: https://www.youtube.com/@JazzfromDetroitFilm
  23. https://store.bluenote.com/products/ike-quebec-the-complete-45-sessions-blue-note-tone-poet-series?variant=44466687082687 Color me surprised ... already issued by Mosaic, is the market that big for the LP treatment? I do love Ike but can't say I pull this out very often - the short playing times and not really the greatest organ behind him. I don't see this being a big seller but what do I know.
