  1. Nick Charles has died. Check out this video of him with Mike Tyson. RIP.
  2. Peter Falk was absolutely priceless in The In-Laws (I won't identify which one, it is the only movie by that title that was ever filmed). RIP.
  3. So rare that it turns out the rumors/reports are false. Now we should listen to Sheldon and appreciate him for who he is, not that he's gone. 'Cause he's not.
  4. With Joe stating that his answers will go up a week from now, I wanted to see if anyone else wants to join in next month's fun. Final track decisions are going to happen this weekend, and I will in all likelihood mail discs this weekend or early next week, with download links available once Joe has posted his answer thread.
  5. Great news, Shawn! Next update will be that you found a gig, I just know it.
  6. Happy B-Day, James!
  7. Man last night was the most brutal, infuriating pisser of a loss since they started cleaning up the mess they made of this season. How the fuck does someone walk SIX batters in a row, and take about 27 pitches to do it? I was watching the game on MLB, Aceves got two quick outs, I went to do the dishes and when I come out he's about to walk in the second run of the inning. Un-Fucking-Believable. And then to complete the misery by fucking away the game in the seventh, stranding seven runners in scoring position in the process, left me one pissed off boy when I went to bed. Fearless predition: The Yankees will have sole possession of first place by tonight, as Lackey will get pounded and they will go out for their nine game NL oddysey riding a two game losing streak while the Yankees will make it what, six in a row with a day-night sweep of the Reds?
  8. Well that's a given, isn't it? I've never in my life seen a bottle of Miracle Whip in someone's cart, let alone in anyone's pantry.
  9. Definitely a high-salt content choice! But the question is, mustard or mayonnaise? To me, that's like the question of mustard or ketchup on hot dogs. Only mustard belongs on a hot dog, and on baloney. Mayonnaise on baloney is nasty.
  10. A charming fellow and he wonders why he feels so put upon. Maybe he's just upset that he realizes the Jelly Roll book he chose wasn't the best one but he can't see shelling out for a decent, accurate bio.
  11. Well for a first start I was pretty pleased, would be totally thrilled if he hadn't left a fastball up and given up the tying three-run blast in the sixth. Up to then nothing not to like - six Ks to 3 BBs, good curveball and of course the fastball has some serious life to it. I have to say that if he permanently cuts down on the walks he could at minimum be a servicable starter for us. If he really figures it out completely, he could be an awesome weapon to go with Lester and Buch.
  12. Pretty sure when you post this you richly deserve a whole bunch of shit. You think the book is great, Litweiler gives you chapter and verse why its not. He deserves some respect, unless you're really Reich or one of his relatives.
  13. Personally I am a lot more swayed by John Litweiler telling me to steer clear than by anything you'd say. Pal.
  14. Something like 22 Ks to 3 BBs in his last three starts at Pawtucket. The potential is undoubtedly there, I am kinda excited to see what he looks like tonight. Probably helpful that he is facing the Padre offense in an IL game.
  15. No surprise there, if you saw the clip when it happened (WTBS had the replay during the Sox broadcast yesterday). Seemed virtually certain that it was much worse than a "sprain", now we'll see if the Card can hang without their biggest bat. Pujols is probably just glad he doesn't have to play 3B for the time being. Speaking of injuries, before anyone starts to annoint the Sox as on their way to October, have you noticed that in the last five days or so, they've lost two starters - Crawford and Lowrie - and their third best starting pitcher, Buchholz. Crawford has a bad hamstring, the kind of injury that can take much longer to heal. Lowrie has had a bum shoulder and finally took a bad swing last week, and Buchholz has had a lingering back problem and no one really knows if an enforced rest will get rid of it or not. On the other hand, we get to see Andrew Miller, who sounds like he could be Randy Johnson before he figured it all out, get a few starts.
  16. Turning in to a party, with lots of sharp musical ears joining the fun. I hope my disc appeals to these discerning folks! Anyone else? I could use a couple of guys whose comments will amount to "Gene Harris" "Not Gene Harris" "NMCOT" and "WTF?" You wanna join in, Al?
  17. Thanks Evan, HP, Jim and Bill. Anyone else?
  18. Without looking too closely, I would wager that AMG took info from a Bobbi Humphrey LP and associated it with this LP. I remember wanting to track the Humphrey LP down back when I was still the Mogie Man. I'm virtually certain Lee never recorded with the Sounds, with the possible exception that Bill Dowdy told me that Lee Morgan, among other players passing through, jammed with the band at the Boddie Recording studio in Cleveland, and that the owner of the studio ran tape while they jammed.
  19. Based on the last few sign up threads, it seems that the time has finally come to start mine, even as I keep moving songs on and off the disc. This is BFT #4 for me, so it may not contain the greatest or most surprising Blindfold tracks, but I think there are a few that will surprise. For those who have participated in my previous efforts, you should know I've made a conscious effort to reduce the number of blues tunes used, there is at most one Gene Harris track, and I even included a "cookie" or two so nearly everyone can say "at least I got one!" Oh, and no "theme" and only one disc. Please indicate preference for download or CDR delivery. Download tracks will be high-quality MP3s zipped and uploaded to a decent file transfer site like Megaupload or Mediafire. Thanks for joining the fun!
  20. You're making me a little verklempt though.
  21. Sounds like Jim is the guy at the bottom of the funnel, and required to submit a single consistently formatted spreadsheet.
  22. Interesting Red Sox stats: Since starting 0-7 on the road, they have improved all the way to a major-league best 22-14. They've won 11 straight against lefty starters and have the best record against lefties in the majors. Which is extra impressive since the conventional wisdom was that they would be succeptible to lefties with so many of them lined up in the middle of the order - Gonzalez, Ortiz, Crawford, Drew. Of course at the end of the month they'll get to see how they do against the really tough lefties on the Phills. And they'll have to do it without Ortiz in the middle of the lineup
  23. So the Yankees go through a stretch that looked very tough three weeks ago, and slice through the Indians and Rangers like hot knife through butter and only the Red Sox manage to frustrate them. Are we really that sure the Yankees are headed downhill? They are like 21 games over .500 against all teams not named the Red Sox.
  24. Yankees have used their best relievers - it ought to be anyone's game with Neftali as the potential difference-maker. Unfortunately, this season its been a negative difference.
