Late as usual, but I hope it was a

Wait just a minute. You mean to tell me this is just a pile of horseshit? But it sounds so logical and reasonable.

I don't understand your complaint at all. Slapping at the ball on a tag play while in the baseline? Of course its a pussy move, made more so if you deny it afterwards. Is your problem that its a move to break up a play that can't cause much damage, so it should be encouraged or applauded?
-
I know I shouldn't get greedy but it really sucks when your ace matches against their ace and for eight innings you're the proverbial "bloop and a blast" away and can't get it done. In those games I'd rather it just be blowout.

Thanks for demonstrating what kind of world-class jackass you are, Timmy. The greatest announcer in baseball history and to you he's a jerk who calls games for the Dodgers. That is, the "not in the top 100 franchises" Dodgers. That must make Scully not in the top 100 announcers, huh? You're a pathetic joke, and I for one will cherish the coming months as the Giants fade out of contention because their brilliant GM built a great pitching staff and an utterly shitty offense incapable of surviving the loss of a single player.

How about last year when Daniel Nava hit a grand slam on the first major league pitch he faced?

A life of success and promise that deteriorated into one of pain, frustration and waste has ended. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/28/arts/television/jeff-conaway-actor-in-taxi-and-grease-dies-at-60.html?ref=arts

Its obvious that when it comes to the Giants, Goodie can only write self-serving nonsense.

You might consider Gloria Smyth, who recorded once for World Pacific, Like Soul! I think she falls in the category of quirky or off-kilter. But for me the best part is the superlative support from a bunch of Pacific Jazz's best instrumentalists, including Teddy Edwards, Ronnie Ball, Lennie McBrowne. I don't think the LP costs too much when it shows up on ebay, and in fact FreshSounds put out the tracks as bonuses on reissues of other sessions led by instrumentalists, like this one: http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/its_about_time_with_les_mc_cann,_feat._gloria_smyth-cd-5469.html Here are the CDs with Smyth on Amazon - hopefully the samples have some portion of her vocals: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gloria+smyth

On a happier note, the Red Sox are about to move into a virtual tie with the Yankees for first place in the East, and might, despite losing ten of twelve at the start of the season, beat the Yankees to 30 wins. Crawford is on fire the last two games, Ortiz is over .300 at the latest point in the season since 2007, and the replacements for Dice-K and Lackey have made three starts and given up three runs total. If they had gone 6-6 instead of 2-12 at the start, they'd be 34-16. And they'd still have to have an incredible season to reach 100 wins given where they started.

Totally disagree. If he picks the throw clean, he's out on a feet first slide, unless its of the hook variety. Look at the video and where his feet are when Posey turns to him to place the tag. The right play is to come in the way he did, its just an unfortunate fact that the guy's foot planted underneath him before he was bowled over. Its an unfortunate injury that catchers risk every day, not a dirty play at all.

Pretty cool - thanks. -
2-1 lead in the eighth inning? Pitching to the hottest hitter on the team with the score tied? The Red Sox can't afford to lose any winnable games the rest of the way, and that one was as brutal in its own way as the 8 run inning they gave up to the Cubs last weekend.

You were given one on Monday, this should have been a sweep and we'd be talking about the first-place Red Sox.

And be worth every penny of it, I think! 25 million puts him in Alex Rodriguez' neighborhood. Bench OPS+ over his career was 126. A-Rod is at 145 (Bench OPS+ exceeded 145 in exactly one season). Not even sure if Bench's defensive prowess makes up for that much, as A-Rod was a pretty damn good defender at a premium position, until he deferred to St Jeter. We interrupt this statistical analysis for this newsflash: FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK IF DANIEL BARD DOESN'T START GETTING HIS FUCKING SHIT TOGETHER, THEY ARE ROYALLY FUCKED, JUST AS I SAID THEY WERE TWO MONTHS AGO.

MLB Power Rankings actually worth a look.

Not to put too much pressure on the youngsters on the roster, but the Indians are on pace to win 107 games, and if they only go .500 the rest of the way they're at 87-88 wins. So just do a bit better than .500 and they ought to end up with 90 wins or so and a division crown, right? Barring a collapse, can anyone catch up with them? Like I said, not to put too much pressure on them.

I agree with you, Dave. (And don't forget Jesse The Body Ventura, especially as a "heel" announcer.) High comedy, I tell ya. The memory I'll always have of Savage was one of his matches with Ricky Steamboat. He came off the corner with the ring bell, mounted on a piece of wood, and drove it into Steamboat's throat. To my young eyes, there was no way to 'fake' that, and Steamboat sold it so well I thought the guy was dead. -

Savage was the Total Package, unlike the guy who was with Elizabeth when she died. Savage had superior in-ring ability and was great on the mic too, and its a sad day when he died. The husband of one of my wife's friends worked in the biz years ago and I am hoping to hear some stories about Savage from him. But seriously, Dave, is there any real difference between wrestling today and wrestling back then? The Macho Man - Elizabeth - Hogan "love triangle" angle wasn't a stupid manufactured story line? Or how about George "The Animal Steele's infatuation with Elizabeth, and Savage's beat-downs? Let's not over-romanticize the guy's heyday. He was a true legend, and that should be enough. Speaking of Steele, (real name William Myers, and he really was a high school teacher at one time), here's a funny story from Wiki:
