  1. Listing on Amazon says tenor only. I recall hearing that he wasn't in very good shape fairly recently, maybe his health and chops have improved? I am definitely curious about this one, might go for an Amazon download for $9.
  2. I don't know if Masterson's future is as a starter or a death-on-righties-groundball-machine reliever (they'd have called him Bob Stanley II if he hadn't been traded away) but I'll always root for him.
  3. Try Peter Crawford @ Stateside Distributors: Stateside@prodigy.net
  4. Everyone acts as if the Red Sox are turning it on, about to run away from the field when its the Rays who had virtually the same awful start and have now actually climbed above .500, all without Evan Longoria while the Red Sox embarrass themselves in Baltimore and limp home still under .500. If the Rays compete the rest of the way, and there's no reason they won't, that 2-10 start will in fact keep the Red Sox out of the playoffs. Just as I said it would.
  5. Finally, something important mentioned in this thread. Is he doing OK? Hope its nothing serious or distressing.
  6. Talk about emotions turning on a dime - as Cano was approaching first base he was certain he was about to be mobbed by his teammates and then just like that, hero-status snatched away.
  7. A very early purchase for me, pretty sure it was my first Art Farmer, bought because the presence of Hank and Kenny Drew gave it the seal of approval.
  8. Go to Zazzle.com and you can create that t-shirt and order one unique copy for yourself.
  9. Buchholz is still a worry, no doubt but last night wasn't nearly as bad as he has been - working two outs into the seventh and giving up the runs on sac flies. Fact is for this team to really start to impress, the two high-priced additions have to play like they are supposed to - Gonzalez hasn't had the rough start that Crawford is having but he's been a fraction of what was expected, at least so far. The hopeful thing is that if the offense finally clicks on all cylinders, or 75% of them at least, a four-run performance by Buchholz is probably an 8-4 win. The mere fact they played so poorly and are a mere 3 games out is the best thing that's happened so far.
  10. My reaction was blue too. But it was a happy blue.
  11. Carl Everett out of baseball, still an all-world asshole.
  12. I am kind of amazed we are almost scheduled up through #100 - maybe we should get Tony Jerant to come back for that one, since it was his idea originally.
  13. Damn. Now I can't use it on my upcoming BFT.
  14. I think you added an "F" in there Steve but otherwise I'd have to agree with you. In fact, it could also be pointed out that at the time Savoy was making these records, I'm not sure Hank was even a has-been, considering that the critical re-evaluation hadn't started yet, and he was still tagged with the "solid, but not essential" tag.
  15. I recommend the Houston Person release.
  16. What should freak you out is that, to my knowledge that's an extremely rare record - I know someone who had been searching for it for many years and even in this age of blogs it never turned up until some kind soul sent it his way.
  17. No one could have predicted that the Sox would wipe out their W-L deficit in virtually the same time it took to create it, but if they can play enough in Baltimore to get back to Fenway with a .500 record I'll take it. Of course it has to be remembered that you're never as good as you look on a hot streak as it is that you're never as bad as you look on a cold streak.
  18. I assume you're talking about the guy who is like 5'6" and averages more than a strikeout an inning. Haven't seen him yet but I'd like to see what he's got. Meanwhile what is more shocking? The Red Sox crawling out of last place Dice-K throwing another eight innings of 1-hit shutout ball I don't know which is more shocking but Dice-K stringing together some dominant starts will go a long way toward restoring some hope in this household.
  19. Some of us have even heard the whole thing.
  20. The teacher has to be reminded to look at the context:  Published by a website called "Ask Men" A survey question, "This article makes me ..." with 50% of respondents choosing "A Better Man" The rest of the "How To" columns here You really think this is "a gentle lampoon"? You're even loonier than the asshat who wrote it.
  21. What could possibly make you think this is some sort of tongue-in-cheek ribbing? Its part of an ongoing series entitled "How To" and its pretty obvious to me that its a serious effort to inform the non-jazz fan how to do exactly what the title says. I agree its a joke - because the writer doesn't know a damn thing about the music he is writing about. And if that makes me a "hardcore fan (who takes) it all so seriously" then so be it. Its a ridiculously stupid and ill-informed serious article.
  22. Or the Chapin song I just recently became acquainted with: "I Want To Learn a Love Song". Try reading this with your best Shatner delivery. I couldn't finish without cracking myself up:
  23. First off (I know this puts me in a decided minority round here) I have always thought "Taxi" was a great song - I always suspected Dan Fogelberg tried to duplicate it in his own way with "Old Lang Syne" and fell short - and definitely think Shatner is better with this than with "Rocket Man". And the reasons are obvious: Being a "story song" Chapin's lyrics are essentially an actor's monologue. "Rocket Man" "works" with the Shatner treatment because the lyrics are so ludicrous on their face that combined with Shatner's mannerisms it reaches a perfect state of lunacy. So if you want lunacy, Rocket Man is the winner. But Taxi is more real, and still has those ludicrous Shatner-moments. Now I wonder if there's video of Billy doing "30,000 Pounds of Bananas".
  24. Well the Sox caught a break with the Angels series, seeing as Jered Weaver pitched Wednesday. And Beckett continues to pitch like its 2007 again. But for me to sustain hope they need to get just as hot as they had been cold, and that means Buchholz, Lackey and Dice have to prove that their recently decent performances aren't flukes. Five wins in six games is nice but its only half way to making up for 2-10. One positive I do see: After his traditional shitty first start, Lester seems to have forgetten that he's supposed to follow that up with a generally crappy April. Instead he's been showing his usual May-and-later form, which means maybe a big year is in the offing.
  25. Not and affiliate but like WNBC in New York, it is one of the network O & Os, for "Owned and Operated".
