Yeah, its pretty astounding that the first one did enough business to get a second one made. I think maybe this weekend I'll travel back in time and watch the Martin hosted episodes of the SNL Season 3 DVD set that I got for Christmas. I'm not sure if the "wild & crazy guys" weren't funnier in my memory, but I always enjoyed Theodorick of York, Medieval Barber.

Looks like a real stare-down between Varitek/Boras and Theo. Multiple reports out there indicating that Varitek might sit out a year rather than accept the offer. Astounding if Boras thinks he can get more than 5 million with a 3 million player option for 2010 and has told Tek that he will. Or would Varitek sit and wait until June, when he could sign elsewhere and there would be no loss of a draft pick? His anemic bat won't look any better after months on the shelf, not at his age. If Varitek refuses the offer, so be it. He walked away from an offer that could easily have been much less. He walked out the door, not the Sox. F him if he does.

I can only echo what Conrad said. I made a decision to pursue a bankruptcy filing pretty quickly once it became obvious that was the logical course of action, so it wasn't that long between harassing calls and when I could say "talk to my lawyer", but I had no trouble ignoring the people that called. I'll be discharged in the middle of February and as long as I make enough to keep the mortgage covered, we'll be OK. And I have good hope we can do that, as I've started telemarketing for Loan Modifications, which is a growth industry to say the least.

I think Euclid Joe spends a lot of time finding widows who are willing to sell their husband's collections for pennies on the dollar.

No one is competing to be "first" to identify someone/some track. Everyone comes to the BFT on their own timetable, they should be pleased if they are correct when they post their comments. I also am unaware that compilers are expected to comment to each new set of guesses. I have done this three times and will again in April, and my policy was not to comment at all while guesses are being posted. Its a "discuss among yourself" time. I then make comments in the answer thread. I don't think there is any reason to formalize any procedure. Its up to every compiler to do what he wishes to do. I owe you an apology, Durium, for having not participated in the discussion thread. It was a combination of too little time available this month and not really having a lot to say about the tunes. (On second listen though I thought I recognized Frank Morgan, but since I didn't post, no credit. )

Depends on what you think pondering lines like and Personally I like the former a bit more than the latter.

Did the Gene Harris snap come after you did the liners for Brotherhood?

I own Jazz Comes to the Astor (Mercury) - Rodgers with Tommy Williams on bass and Ben Riley on drums. Nice but not earth-shattering. I'd expect the same of the Black & Blue release.

Meg Ryan. She did nude scenes in The Doors (1991) and Flesh and Bone (1993).

I didn't even think of the Ruth - Hot Dog connection. Do you think if anyone comes along to challenge your mark, the old guard will proclaim that "Sangrey did it on hot dogs and Sexy Album Covers!"?

Your analogy completely breaks down when you consider that no one can peruse the forum in Indy 500 fashion, nor has Jim posted in such a mindless, machine-like way. My analogy would be to good old Babe Ruth, who cranked out home runs at a prodigious, otherwise unheard of rate. Some were hit in games that were already won or lost, some were hit in spring training and during barnstorming tours, and some were hit to win pennants and World Series. Now, my analogy breaks down if anyone wants to celebrate Jim for the number of posts. Jim didn't aspire to be the Babe Ruth of the board, and seeks no acclamation due to his number of posts. But I think my comparison is a tad more apt than yours, Chris.

Thanks James! -
Can you deny a face like that? Click here to "vote" in the Humane Society Spay Day Pet Photo Contest. Each dollar donated equals one vote (minimum $5), and its a great cause. You can spread your donation around to the other entries, too, and if you'd like to enter your own pet, Coltrane doesn't mind a little competition. Thanks!

I always assumed that their permits to film include total control on the "set" - what kind of film was this if they would let non-performers potentially interact with the actors? Of course the answer would be the type of film that doesn't necessarily have permits to film. Reminds me of my sister's "film career". There was an indie film shooting in New York. My sister had no clue but she walked out of a building, saw a cab, and got into it, people started yelling at her, she stomps her feet and looks for another cab. So months later, she gets a call from a friend, "I saw you in a movie!" Turns out they had such a tight budget, they left the shot in (the camera was positioned way above, like a long-distance tracking shot). One of the stars was supposed to come out of the building and get in the cab. The movie did some pretty good business: Metropolitan. So my Mom and I went to see the film in some art house theater in Norwalk, CT. And sure enough, even from way above, we could recognize my sister's walk. And her unmistakable pouting over being denied the cab.

Agreed, but why did she wait til she hit 40 to start taking off her clothes in every movie? Because now, it's only for people who will truly appreciate it instead of every adolescent-brained horndog on Planet Earth? Adolescent brained horndogs will still appreciate it, regardless of when it happens. I'm just curious why it happened at this point - I don't know of any successful actresses who've waited so long to alter a no-nudity policy.

Baseball Steroid Thread
Dan Gould replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Who knows? He's outlasted Fire Joe Morgan. (Did I hear correctly that Steve Phillips is joining Miller and Morgan in the booth for Sunday Night Baseball? If that won't bring Fire Joe Morgan back, nothing will.) -
Baseball Steroid Thread

There's another factor working against him: Joe Morgan. He doesn't like to see any other second baseman get into the Hall, especially those whose lifetime stats exceeded his own (see Sandberg, Ryne). Of course Morgan doesn't have a vote but you can bet that he'll be mouthing off about why Kent doesn't belong in the next five years. -
Baseball Steroid Thread

Iirc from Game of Shadows, the chemist who created this stuff simply used a steroid that was developed years earlier but was passed up because there were better options available. It tested "Clear" in drug screens simply because its a steroid that the test isn't looking for. So saying that its not a steroid, or not proven to be one, is kind of questionable to me. You can say its not on the list of specific steroids, but proving it is a steroid is not a problem, and it ought to fall into the catch-all that was included at the end of the list of steroids. -
Hey Jim, considering how many people post new threads about this same issue, maybe its time to "pin" something in this subforum so that maybe people will find the info they need to revert back easier?

I'd never heard of that record, CJ, but your description and the AMG review makes me want it, badly. Thanks!

Dan, immediately download this free software: http://www.foobar2000.org/ Best audio player I have ever used! In fact, more and more people stop copying CDs or burning CD-Rs from lossless files, and play the files directly on the PC or a media server (Squeezebox, etc). Burning CD-Rs has become a waste of time and money. Better burn the FLAC files onto DVD-Rs (10-15 CDs on one DVD-R) or keep them on a hard drive (and make backups). It's much easier to organize and access. The great thing about this is that one can use a regular PC as a source component together with a high quality DAC (digital/analogue converter), and it will sound as good as a high quality CD player. I actually prefer the PC over a Squeezebox for it's higher flexibility. I use Foobar2000, a remote control for the PC and the TV screen as a display. That's why CD-R on demand services are really an anacronism. It's neither a collectible product, not is it as convenient as a download. So if one doesn't play music on the PC, it isn't really necessary to download that media player. Or am I missing something?

That's a great record, Mike, one of his best in fact; too bad it seems to have slipped past a lot of people.
