  1. I FUCKING knew from the moment Timlin came in that it would be mere minutes before the game would be out of hand. I took the dogs out, and returned to watch the ball fly out over the Monster. I FUCKING knew that as long as they kept fucking around with the bats that it was inevitable that our bullpen would fuck it away before theirs did. I didn't think it was possible to have a more infuriating game than Tuesday night but I was OH SO FUCKING wrong. FORGET THE DIVISION. FEAR THE JAYS. By the end of next weekend, the division will be sewn up, and they will be in a fight for their lives for the Wild Card. Count on it.
  2. It seems strange to me but while I remember the shock at the exposed veins of the bomb-worshiping people, it didn't have nearly the same effect on me (at just about the same age). No nightmares, no nothing. On the other hand, that poster of West World reminds me that I became damn near hysterical in the theater when Yul Brynner shows up after the acid/burning of his face. That image truly scared the crap out of me.
  3. By no measure is the second Planet of the Apes movie obscure or the "worst" of the bunch. IMHO, its the only sequel that is watchable.
  4. He went to him too many times in a row. Every fucking ball hit in the inning was a screaming line drive. The home run was monstrous; the line drive to Crisp was stung; the double should have gone over the Monster. Papelbon sucked and shouldn't have been called upon. And I called it from the moment the NESN guy said that Okajima was pulled. In fact that was another reason not to use him - no time to get him up and warm. Francoma is a fucking asshole in game situations.
  5. How's that for an oldie but a goodie? FranCOMA's motherfucking stupidity pisses away a game they had stolen away. Anyone else fucking KNOW that Papelbon was going to fuck it up? Three straight appearances, 4 outs last night. Okajima has been pitching well and had lefties lined up. Let him fucking pitch the ninth!
  6. Really? What makes you state that? The previous posts that list "soul jazz" and "blowing sessions" as things that Cook/Morton have no use for.
  7. Fwiw, AMG gives the following for the appearances on record of these compositions: If You Could See Me Now - 285 Hot House - 240 Lady Bird - 184 Good Bait - 173 Our Delight - 134 Now, if you know nothing about Dameron, which statement tells you what you need to know: That particular "edgy opinion" is ludicrous on its face.
  8. Ken is correct, and Larry I do get your point and agree with it. I will always prefer AMG over Penguin. AMG is actually useful, and far more so than Penguin, unless you are looking for ways to raise your blood pressure. I could care less what a couple of smarmy Brits believe about soul jazz, blowing sessions or Tadd Dameron. Apparently they think Bob Weinstock's life's work was worthless, since as he said to me, jazz IS a "blowing session" and on top of that, he recorded a boatload of "soul jazz". And beliefs like that deserve a hearty fuck you.
  9. It may have been up to local affiliates to give clearance but CBS absolutely broadcast the Final. So if your local affiliate showed Oprah instead, bitch at them.
  10. Not necessarily during a ceremony, but Djokovic comes immediately to mind when he chastised Roddick last week for his innocuous comments on his 'injuries' even though Roddick said he was kidding around. Djokovic managed to get an entire stadium to boo at him. I never thought Djokovic's impersonations of Sharapova and Nadal were in good taste either. But, that's just me. Yeah well I should have explicitly disqualified anyone who looks like a Serbian serial killer. Federer beating Nadal would have been the cherry on top but whipping Djokovic was pleasant in and of itself.
  11. When is the last time someone wasn't gracious toward their opponent during the ceremony? I'm not saying Roger hasn't always been a class act but I wouldn't say that's the best example of it. Anyway, glad that he showed everyone that reports of his demise were premature. I enjoyed watching Murray beat Nadal but someone needs to tie him down and shave that pathetic excuse for a beard off. Even if he only grows it during the tournament - even Borg wasn't that patchy.
  12. This is just a tad beyond that normal variability: He had made three hundred and sixty nine starts since sucking shit this badly. Five outs in twelve pitches then 37 more without sniffing an out, and pissing away a critical game.
  13. The Rays lose on a walk-off grand slam but you can kiss that opportunity to close the gap because that worthless piece of fucking shit Wakefield gave up SEVEN FUCKING RUNS WITH TWO OUTS. How much do you wanna bet that Byrd will get his ass handed to him tomorrow? That fucking shit doesn't cut it against a half-way decent offensive team. And how much do you wanna bet that this one will end up about 20 - 5? Into the bullpen in the second inning, and the Rangers won't mind some fucking payback for a couple of weeks ago.
  14. That may be but I can only dream of booking a few movie trailers at $25,000 a pop, let alone the number he did once he became "the" trailer guy.
  15. Special Weather Statement: I had hopes that Hurricane Ike, which may be the strongest hurricane to threaten Florida since Andrew, would manage to pass us by but this is growing increasingly unlikely. Therefore the processing of orders is going to cease by tomorrow as my wife and I go about the process of securing no less than four houses owned by family members (the hurricane isn't interrupting their planned cruise to the Bahamas). The following people had packages shipped on Thursday: Chuck Tom Drew Patrick Shane Patience from the remaining customers (Stefan, Clifford, Vint, JF, Scott, Ben, Perry, Al and Erick) is appreciated. Payments from anyone who has received a total but not yet paid are also appreciated, since we'll need all the money we can get if we have to get the hell out of Dodge.
  16. And Hank and Hal Steinbrenner were at the game last night!
  17. I will transport all LPs to my favorite remaining vinyl emporium, where I will visually examine each one on a simple Pass/Fail basis. Thus I will replicate the experience of most vinyl hounds by utilizing the same shitty lighting I had when I bought them in the first place. For those on the margins, I will bring them home for a second opinion from Coltrane. If he barks or wags his tail, they Pass. If he scratches them or gives me his patented quizzical expression, they Fail. Work for you?
  18. I'm really curious if anyone has picked up the Three Sounds reissues, particularly Soul Symphony. Lots of excellent Gene Harris on that one.
  19. In limited quantities, and for a dollar extra, sure!
  20. I'm curious about the level of interest in possibly offering my blues CDs and the LP collection. There are far fewer blues CDs in the collection, probably 200 or so, there's a strong concentration in electric blues with a lot of B.B. King, Chicago artists, Lowell Fulson and Freddie King among others. I can say this, I'd be disinclined to offer as deep discounts for those that don't sell as I have for the jazz CDs ... On the LPs, we're talking about maybe 10-15 BNs but not the kind that get the big dollars (Rainbow series releases, Liberty era releases) and then a few hundred more, some rare PJs, that Rita Reys LP with the Messengers, some nice Argo LPs. I wouldn't look for collector's prices but I also doubt I'll sell many for $3-5 either. So, are the vinyl heads ready to spend? Have I extracted too much from the Org community already? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  21. I'm pretty sure the Australian does though maybe its harder to tell since they have the retractable roof if the heat is too much. But I'm certain Australia has night matches, the reason Wimbledon and the French don't is the refusal to install lights on these "sacred" grounds. Wrigley got over it; they can too.
  22. I was reading the NY Post baseball blog which was all about how the Yankees best chance isn't to catch the Sox, its for the Rays to fall apart. They do have a tough road trip coming up - Toronto, Boston, NY, I believe. And after Boston visits Tampa, the Twins come in. So those are tough games. I think we do have a shot, but only if what the Rays are trying to accomplish really gets into their heads and they (dare I say it) choke. At least they are due for a bad stretch and maybe some bad luck, too. Tonight's game against the Yanks should be a blow-out, with Rasner facing Kazmir. But Kaz has been pedestrian for about 70 innings now, with an ERA over 4 and 12 home runs allowed. We do have the rotation lined up right for Tampa next week, I just hope that Beckett off the DL followed by Byrd and Wake doesn't run into trouble against Texas this weekend. One thing I want to avoid though is to have those last three games at Fenway be critical. If we can clinch the wild card before that, great. But I'd hate to somehow have a three way battle for the wild card/division with the Yankees having good reason to at least play spoiler. Hopefully they complete the sweep tonight, then fall on their faces in Seattle and LA. Seattle they miss King Felix but I can't imagine they'll play with a lot of energy after leaving Tampa at midnight to fly all the way across the country and land in Seattle with a game that evening. One last thing to consider - the Rays finish with Detroit and Baltimore. So even if they drop, there will be an opportunity to recover. But I'd love to play Chicago with home field advantage rather than LA as the wild card.
  23. Well I can't take credit for the speed of delivery, but I'm glad just the same.
  24. Well, Adrian was smart - he bought some discs from my Stupendous Sale first, then he outed himself.
