  1. I think that when you have an event like this perpetrated by a foreign national, that nationality becomes an object of at least some interest. Certainly, people in Korea are going to be asked their reactions. Does South Korea have a problem with nuts turning into mass murderers? Those are the questions to ask. Those are the questions to ask? Are you serious? Its the only serious question I can think of regarding his heritage. Do Korean males respond to disappointment/anger/whatever, in extreme cases, by going on rampages?

Certainly, people in Korea are going to be asked their reactions. Does South Korea have a problem with nuts turning into mass murderers? Those are the questions to ask. Your comparison to Oklahoma City is unfair and foolish because you haven't shown the media asking random people "what do you think of the Korean killer". Their President offers commentary - that's natural. What exactly did the Korean-american society guy say? Show me random interviews seeking comment and then I'll agree its a little fishy.
  3. Indeed! But someone is going to have to finish cleaning the plate, or no long awaited LP Sale list for you people!
  4. The entry for Cisco scares the crap out of me.
  5. CNN has that and one other of his one act plays he wrote for a creative writing class. Apparently they were to be uploaded to a site for classmates to download and critique in class. Given the way his classmate made it out to be an ultra violent piece of writing, I was a little surprised at how tame it was. Vile, nasty language, horribly written and totally unsuited to an upper division course for English majors was my reaction. Anyone else wonder how this loner, "Mr. Question Mark" (because on a sign in sheet he wrote a question mark instead of his name, when asked by the teacher he stared silently) could have had a girlfriend to break up with? I wonder if this was some sort of unrequited love rather than an actual relationship.
  6. Up for the last 12. C'mon people!
  7. Maybe I should post this as a PM to Dmitry but ... here goes. In the last few days (not even sure when it happened) one of my front teeth must have gotten bumped because its now slightly loose (as in, no biting an apple for me). My question is, if the pain is not at all significant, is a trip to the dentist necessary? When the roots loosen up a little, will they re-solidify around the tooth and stabilize it or this tooth destined to get yanked? Its not that I don't like the dentist. The thing is, even though I've lived in south Florida quite a while, my regular visits to see the folks have allowed me to continue to get regular (or at least semi-regular) dental care from the Dentist I've been seeing since college. So, strange as it may seem, I've yet to find a local dentist and haven't had need to. Right now the tooth doesn't hurt at all, I am just being careful with how I bite and chew - my question is, will this heal itself or do I need a dentist to ultimately remove and replace the tooth?
  8. Indianapolis...hmm...I'm thinking Ab major? Sounds like a great weekend, Mark! Please tell us about it (with pictures if possible!). Like you won't be getting pictures ...
  9. Anyone listening to the audio of gunfire captured by the student's cel phone knows that these weren't automatic weapons.
  10. Not only awful, but highly incorrect as others have already pointed out. Name another civilized country where you or I can purchase an assault weapon for our private use. Who needs an assault weapon to kill somebody? If the guy had his mind set on it as much as he obviously did, he would have found a way to carry out his plan no matter what kind of weapons he would have had to resort to. C'mon, BM. How ironic yet appropriate that his screen name can be shortened to "BM".
  11. Ever since my wife (before we married) got dinged with an enormous tax bill, she's insisted on putting herself in with zero deductions on the withholding worksheet. She simply prefers to get money back than risk having to owe. She'd rather deal with a lower net paycheck than actually have X amount of money to keep over the year. The problem this year was getting her to get her business receipts in order so we could file. Otherwise we'd have already received the $2300 back instead of waiting til the end of this week (e-filing is a wonderful thing, thank God Al Gore invented the internet lo those many years ago).
  12. Just stunning. I'd seen the earlier report of one fatality but had no idea it was this bad when all was said and done.
  13. You are sadly mistaken if you think that Theo reacted to "collective panic" on "message boards". Theo reacted to panic by his number three pitcher who had made 5 starts, gone 1-4 and watched his catcher chase no fewer than TEN passed balls. Bard may be a fine catcher, particularly in the batting department, but he was a freaking DISASTER as Wakefield's catcher - and that is what he was brought on board to do. Someone has to be able to catch Wakefield. A change had to be made, and at that point, nothing whatsoever was expected from Meredith. I hate the way Mirabelli has hit but as long as Wakefield is in the rotation, someone has to be able to catch him. It will be Mirabelli for one more year, and then I expect Kotteras to take over. You can bet that Theo will give Kotteras more time than he gave Bard - but that doesn't mean that it was any sort of "panic" let alone an "emotional" move to bring Mirabelli back. Furthermore, no one said that they "overpaid" for Mirabelli's services until Meredith got his act together, and Bard, being away from that dastardly knuckleball, got a chance to just be an average catcher. But not a damn thing was said about overpaying until well afterwards.
  14. Any comment from Yankee fans on the state of the rotation? Mussina and Pavano placed on the DL, a kid with 14 innings of AA experience gets the call against the Indians on Tuesday, and no one knows who will pitch against the Red Sox next Saturday OR Sunday at the Fens. A Foxsports.com commentator said in a chat that "this is the year that bad things happen to the Yankees rotation" and while I thought it was an interesting prediction, I didn't think so many bad things would happen this quickly. I guess the positive side is that the Yanks should easily convince Clemens that they really really need him.
  15. Why do you think that emotion had anything to do with it? The facts were: Bard was rapidly proving that he could not handle Wakefield's knuckler, which was the reason he was on the roster. It was already effecting Wakefield and how he pitched. He was practically afraid to throw the knuckler because he was afraid the kid wouldn't catch it. Wakefield was an important part of the rotation who couldn't be counted on to do his job only because of his batterymate. Mirabelli is the one pitcher out there they knew could handle Wake, and who Wake was extremely comfortable with. Meredith had blown his chance with the Red Sox the previous year (when he was called up prematurely) and had gone into an extraordinary pitching funk in which he couldn't get out AAA guys at Pawtucket. He was a basket case, and they had been working on some perceived flaw in his delivery and trying to get him back to the great reliever he had been before he got the call up. In short, he was someone who didn't look like he had any particular future, and certainly did not look like he had a future as a Red Sox pitcher. Meredith took it upon himself to go back to his old delivery, and everything fell into place. Good for him - but the decision to let him go was a reasonable one. You never know how a trade will work out, but the most reasonable complaint about that trade is that Mirabelli went from an OK hitter with some pop in his bat to a downright horrific hitter. If Mirabelli's hitting hadn't gone so far downhill, I don't think anyone would be bitching about that trade. Certainly no one would have guessed that Meredith would become such an important part of the San Diego bullpen. But the simple bottom line is that the trade had nothing to do with "emotion".
  16. ogg is nothing but an open source MP3. Flac and shn are the lossless files, as far as I know. And Jim, I did not see Brett Primack here or know that changes were made to a download source file due to complaints. I'd be more in favor of downloads if the quality was high enough.
  17. Jim, the difference you are looking for is the difference between MP3 downloads and redbook standard CDs. That is what is represented by a CD, as far as I am concerned. And I very very very seriously doubt that any future download system will offer loss-less files. Not in an age where I-pods rule and no one seems to give a rip about audio quality or lack thereof. Having said that, given the choice between OJCs going completely OOP and having them be available as downloads in the future, I'd still gladly take the latter option. And one other thing - the dominance of the i-pod means the dominance of the I-pod pricing scheme: .99 per tune. So I would count on $10 or so downloads, for medium quality MP3s, and maybe some artwork, but then again, maybe not. In other words, the old "mid-price" CD, without the CD, the redbook quality, the commercial quality burn or the professional four color art. The more I think about it, the more I am going to prefer commercially produced CDs, until they get around to offering downloads of the forgotten or never issued sessions. Then I'd lower my standards.
  18. Very sad news. Certainly deserved more recognition while he was alive ...
  19. List updated. All CDs currently listed are available on the Final Sale Terms delineated above.
  20. You gotta give some credit to Concord on this one, though frankly I am a little concerned about this statement I don't care if they want to issue more "contemporary" sounding stuff, but when you're sitting on a goldmine of classic jazz from that era, you've got to pick the gems and put them out. Furthermore, I'd strongly argue that at this point in time, the people buying CDs are the ones who would be interested in those 50s-60s concerts. I really hope that his comment is directed at what type of "special projects" they'll record at upcoming festivals, not what they plan to issue from the vaults.
  21. No wonder then why you're a college graduate without credit cards who refers to dollars as 'big ones'.
  22. CD list updated. Anyone still interested better get 'em before Felser takes another crack at them.
  23. Had to find and bump up this thread after I opened up my new GE Mouse I bought last night. Attached to the cord were these words, which I found absolutely staggering: Medical science hasn't determined that the level of chemicals or lead is sufficient to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA has. And because of that highly dubious finding, and the litigious nature of our society, GE had to add that warning. Unbelievable. You can't imagine how relieved I am to live in Florida, where, obviously, I'm safe from any such "threat" - and you can't imagine how relieved I am not to be living in California, for other reasons.
  24. Well, it will be interesting to see, after his next two Class A rehab starts if he gets activated or goes to Pawtucket. I think he gets another cancer screen next month - they may want that final clean bill of health before bringing him up. But the rotation looks very good; if Lester commands the strike zone he'd make an excellent number 5. I'd just like to see the team start hitting consistently and then I'll feel really good about their chances.
