God bless Bob Belden! Hopefully they are packing the disc with as much music as possible.

Oddly, if you look at GG's discography at All Music, it shows this as a 2006 release - even has a catalog number. Bingo! http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...D=5092246&BAB=L I put my order in to CD Universe using the link in Eric's post. Can Jim confirm that Organissimo will be paid or shall I cancel the order and do it again? MG You need to cancel and either wait for Jim to post a link, or else use the search box at the top of the page to find and order it. Looking at the link and comparing it to a link Jim posted for another album, its clear that Jim's posting contains code for Organissimo to get credit.

That all sounds very encouraging, Conrad, except for this truism: After getting swept, I'd much rather go home than have to try to right the ship on the road. Its also true that in these interleague series, the Braves have killed us. Maybe its my pessimistic nature but I bet they still manage to drop two of three in Hotlanta.

What this reminds me of is a Girls Behaving Badly prank where the girl who got her start on The Real World was packed into a shipping box and delivered to an office by a deliveryman. They'd be left in the room as noises would be heard from inside the box, and then the girl would pop out, in full wedding dress, like some sort of zombie. The prank was called "Mail Order Bride" and the reactions of the poor deliverymen were priceless. -
If someone who hates Def Leppard loves this disc, what does that mean for someone who loves Def Leppard (my wife)? Could it be so different from their usual that she'll hate it?

The saga of my first car.....

The bearings in the tires are always first things to go. Can I be your auto mechanic? Why not? You've been f*cking with me since day one. -
A lovely day in the neighborhood?

Not me. I think drivers in Chicago are far worse than drivers in NYC. Coming from the man who maneuvered a big-ass trailer around Greenwich Village, I'd take your word for it! -
The saga of my first car.....

After graduation from Florida State and before starting Grad school in St. Louis, I bought a '76 Mustang II. I truly believed it was a great deal and would be a great car, as not only was it owned by the figurative "little old lady in tennis shoes" but the little old lady was the bookkeeper of our trusted mechanic, and he had taken care of the car all those years. 12 years and less than 55,000 miles, so who could blame me for thinking this was a great deal, at $1000? Well, the car ran beautifully - for about three months. Seriously, that V-6 had some serious life to it, along with the lightest gas pedal I've ever known. Just barely touching it, and you'd take off like a shot. Had no problem blowing the doors off just about anything that raced its motor next to me at a stop light. But that was when it was running. I remember taking it to "Larry's Auto Center" in University City. Larry was an awfully pleasant guy, and honestly I can't tell you whether or not it was truly a case of a dishonest mechanic or a piece of shit American car built in the mid-70s. But I do know two things: 1) I spent enough money at Larry's that I ended up on his Christmas card list. 2) You know how academic departments have "Endowed Chairs"? Well, the joke around the Poli-Sci department was that I had my own service bay at Larry's: The Gould Endowed Service Bay. Long story short, it barely made it through the two and a half years I was in St. Louis, including a couple of trips back to Connecticut. When I finished up, Mom drove out so we could load up the minivan and caravan back home. That was a trip from hell. I drove point, just in case something might happen, and outside of Reading PA, on the PA turnpike, I think the bearings in the tires froze (?). We got a tow and got ourselves a room at a motel and it ended up taking two days for the mechanic to find replacements at a junk yard. We limped the rest of the way home, where I took it back to the mechanic who'd vouched for its great condition three years earlier. They gave me a long list of the problems, some of which I knew about (like the fact that I had to add oil at least once a week - there was a leaky seal and to fix it would have meant removing the engine, so $1 a week for oil seemed a lot better than $700 to fix it) and one thing I didn't know about: They strongly recommended that I not put any passengers in the front seat. Seems that the rust was so bad that they could not only see the carpet, they could see through the carpet. I could just picture having a friend's feet fall through the floor. Would have added the Fred Flintstone Brake System to my already crappy brakes. So later that summer I got rid of it and bought my first new car, a Plymouth Colt, which was actually a Mitsubishi model, and aside from ending up in Florida with no A/C (couldn't afford the car with that option package) that car drove like a champ and barely ever gave me a lick of trouble. -

Your neighborhood attracts door-to-door window salesmen?? -
What exactly is the reason that you don't want to use your existing pre-amp? Is it possible to simply wire the output to the PC and not actually move it? This may be a silly question, but do you know how to adjust inputs within the Goldwave program, right? I would be really surprised if you have to max out your cassette input to get a decent signal - or are you not adjusting the signal using Goldwave? Seems very odd, especially since soundcards are usually very easy to overload. That's all I got - can't recommend a pre-amp as I have an inexpensive turntable with internal pre-amp, and I simply have the turntable sitting next to the desk.

What the F*ck??

Not in Britain. There's a doctrine about "reasonable force" over here, which generally doesn't include killing someone, unless you can show that your own life really depended on it. There have been a few celebrated cases here in which even wounding a burglar with a gun has led to prosecution and guilty verdicts. Nobody agrees with this. However, the implication of the alternative is that people start arming themselves and this seems like the thin end of the wedge in creating a society like the US. So, in this case, I think I side with the narrow interpretation of what a person can be allowed to do. MG The doctrine of reasonable force is also in effect in the United States. A person may not use deadly physical force unless he/she is in reasonable fear of serious physical injury or death AND (unless you are in Louisiana or Florida) retreat is impossible. However, there is no duty to retreat if you are in your own home. I think it unfortunate if British law requires retreat in such instance. As for the lawsuit, it definitely has merit, and, under the letter of the law, the plaintiff should prevail. Are you a lawyer? -
I'm not a lawyer but I am aslo certain it is not.

It seems as though not all of those downloads are iTunes only. The ones that don't say "iTunes exclusive" are available from Rhapsody.com and Real Networks. In fact, after seeing the mention of the Griff-Lock date, I went to the Verve Interactive site to see exactly what was up and available. I spotted the Ben Webster Meets Don Byas among others, so I clicked on the download button. Then a weird thing happened: I picked Rhapsody.com, downloaded their player, and the next thing I knew, the entire album started playing. NO indication of how to purchase and download, the first tune just started playing. Well, I have Goldwave audio software and figured, what the hell, opened up a new file and started recording the download. How can they set up a system where people can simply record, live, the music they want, and not even tell them how to purchase the music? Bottom line: For those who don't "upgrade" their account to "unlimited", Rhapsody allows 25 free plays per month. Given the lesser quality of these downloads, I have no problem recording what they will allow me to play, month by month. If they won't tell you how to buy it, can anyone blame me for recording what they'll stream?

I'd suggest Sampras' run to his final Grand Slam. Of course, Pete was severely lacking in the personality department, but the odds of his winning the whole thing weren't very good going in. But the fact is that that was a unique moment by a completely unique player the likes of which will never be seen again. We've had this discussion before, Dave, but I have to say that it surprises me, you being a serious player at one point, only have appreciation for the histrionics and the BS and not the shot-making, which I assure you was on display at the French. In fact, given your stated disinterest in the serve-winner nature of the modern men's game, I'd think you'd appreciate the French Open at least, where players have to grind it out and set up their winners. Some of the shots hit by Nadal and Federer were truly amazing! And I have little doubt that Federer will go down as the greatest champion of all-time, certainly one of the top two-three. His game is a thing of beauty - even if his on-court demeanor is pretty bland.

The irresistable force (Federer in a Grand Slam final) met the immovable object (Nadal on clay) and the immovable object won. It would be nice if Nadal ever shows the same success on other surfaces, otherwise he will be remembered in the same way that Villas is remembered - great on clay, not much else - while Federer, whether he ever wins Roland Garros is clearly the greatest player of his generation and well on his way to beating Sampras' mark for Grand Slam titles.

Well, isn't all the stuff they're reissuing past the 50 year threshold? Guy Far, far, far from it.

I would have to guess that the appearance on CD has led to this LP apparently becoming fairly common ebay fodder. I had never seen it before when I snagged it probably 7 years ago, and I definitely had some coompetition for it then. As far as the music goes, its Hank, and that is always good enough for me. Some find the pianist a little annoying but I have no problem with it.

Ol' Bobby DeNiro is moonlighting? Who knew?? You beat me to it ... I thought it was Travis Bickle playing the organ.

This has been discussed before. There are other dates he led in addition to Roots.

From the NYT: I'm not sure which is a better example of chutzpah: showing up in court in the wheelchair, or the wife saying "he got better". Maybe this will give the writers at Law & Order some ideas ...

If you like blues-infected playing, you can't go wrong! Some fine Kenny Drew playing on that one, too.

The info is in the discography you yourself posted earlier in the thread. http://www.jazzdisco.org/green/dis/c/ To my knowledge one tune has been issued on CD. It wasn't on the original LP but was put out on a comp.
