Well, rather than springing for the Vintage box, which would be about 98% duplicative of what I already have, I ended up finding some mint Kent 45s to cover some of the tunes from that '65 session. In searching the shop's database, I found one that I decided to spring for, as I could find no such title in the Ace catalog: Its Kent 470, "Bad Breaks"/"Growing Old". I know that "Growing Old" appeared on King of the Blues, but after my experience with Twisting with B.B. King, can anyone reassure me that "Bad Breaks" is not one of those old tunes that were re-named? Thanks!

If it does, I'll look at my new avatar and think happy thoughts. -

Glad the forum is back up, but if I were you, Jim, I'd be raising holy hell about them failing to do what was promised - and what I am sure they have been billing for. Now, to see what avatar I was using and how much I've lost ... -
Yeah, I know ... its tunes like "Something" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" that still gives me pause though.

A copy is up right now at $7 and there are three copies available as "buy it now" ranging from $10-13.
-
It has not been issued on CD to my knowledge, but I have seen it several times on ebay. I wouldn't be surprised it if it is up in an ebay seller's store as a buy-it-now. I've thought about this one before but have always been turned off by the definite appearance of "commercialness".

Did you flunk out of Cecil Taylor's jazz history class?

In the meantime, could someone tell me what "IIRC" stands for? its the one web-shortcut I've never been able to figure out. -
I was just repeating the preferred name that one of our European friends gave them.

I can't remember if I posted this earlier in the thread, but I got the J.J. album last year from the Andorran pirates and highly recommend it.

Thanks for posting the article, Chris. A very nice profile.

The lack of an update does have me wondering if it is something serious ... -
No doubt, one of the great jazz photographers. RIP.

I have a burn from a board member. Nothing special. Edit: If you respect Jim's opinion more than mine, then by all means, go find a copy!

I hope there are others that people can add to this thread, but I had to share this perfectly great cover that whoever put out those Vanguard reissue comps weren't smart enough to leave well enough alone. I ask you, could there be a more perfect combination of album title, artist, and photo? I think not. If anyone can add other covers "lost" in the reissue program, please do.

D'oh! Obviously the clues were there. Excellent work Aric. Indeed. I guess he deserves a except for the fact that he's freaking out over the bird flu thing and going into hiding.

numerous 60s 45s available FS

I would think there is no possible better way to get rid of them than on ebay, unless you are unconcerned by what you get for them and have a local dealer that will give you about a nickel per 45. Seriously, if you aren't concerned about getting a lot for them, why not just throw up the whole list as a single lot and set a reasonable opening bid on it? If there are 'good' items in there, I'll bet there are collectors who'll bid on a huge lot just to get a handful of discs. -
Now this is the first message from the good "lady" that actually sounds like Aric. Here's one more test: 'contemporaryladySF": WHY was Aric once so enamored of Hank Mobley?

Yeah, but the former GHF took a pass on your BFT, Evan. No particular reason other than general BFT burn out of late. Then imagine my surprise when I read through the discussion thread, and see all the clues - the tune, the bassist - I'm virtually certain this is my man Gene ... then I see some of the disses he's getting - "ideas are none too fresh" Just my luck - someone programs Gene Harris, I would have picked it out in a second (not to mention the fact I recently got an audiophile pressing of this LP, so I've been hearing this track anyway) and I'm not in on the fun. Not a swing and a miss ... rather the pitcher laid in a fat one after right after I come out of the game.

What Jim said. If I had a bite and an expanding area of swelling, I'd have my ass to an emergency room or immediate medical care operation without even asking anyone. -
I'm sorry that race is part of the picture. Let's suppose she was white. I don't think a stripper with that history should be able to ruin the reputations of college students. Hey, if they are guilty of rape, they're guilty. Or are you saying it's okay to rape some women? A stripper who's been raped, white or black, definitely should be able to ruin the reputations of college students who are guilty of her rape.

Verve's CEO
Dan Gould replied to montg's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Has it occured to you that he's making the comparison to Redman, Payton, McBride because those are the Verve artists that had a moment in the sun? None of this is surprising in today's market. Would you feel better if he said that "nothing is coming along that is particularly marketable?" Dave James hits the nail on the head - even though I don't take the blame (which usually works out this way: you're such a jazz fan, you should be buying new stuff instead of old stuff). -
Shawn, if you don't mind my asking, why do you prefer Soundforge for editing when you already have/are using Goldwave?

Dan, according to my research and please correct me if I'm wrong, the six songs were: Ain't Nobody's Business Blues Stay Away from Me Eyesight to the Blind Five Long Years Make Me Blue A Woman Don't Care Ain't Nobody's Business was released as a single (Kent 447), on the LP "The Jungle" (Kent 521/5021) and was reissued both on "The Vintage Years" box set and more recently on "Original Greatest Hits" (Virgin 11654). Blues Stay Away from Me was released as a single (Kent 458), on the LP "Rock Me Baby" (Kent 512/5012), and was also reissued on "The Vintage Years" and "Original Greatest Hits." Eyesight to the Blind with overdubbed horns was released as a single (Kent 441) and reissued on "The Best of the Kent Singles" (Ace 760). The version without horns was issued on "The Jungle" LP and reissued on "B.B. King" aka "The Soul of B.B. King" (Ace 986). Five Long Years was on Kent single 445 and on "The Jungle" and was reissued on both "The Best of the Kent Singles" and "The Vintage Years." Make Me Blue was first released in Japan and is on "The Vintage Years." A Woman Don't Care with overdubbed horns is on "B.B. King" aka "The Soul of B.B. King" and without horns on "The Great B.B. King (Ace 1049). The version with horns is mono while the one with horns is in stereo. Four of these songs were covers, but B.B. is credited with writing both Make Me Blue and A Woman Don't Care. Perhaps these were songs that he had no intention of recording for ABC? Since the Biharis didn't release either one, maybe they agreed that the songs lacked commercial potential. Thanks a lot for the info. As far as Twist goes, I thought Steve Gray identified that the LP had a handful of tunes not on other Crown LPs and not reissued elsewhere in the series?
