  1. I know the Kent sides are considered the masterpieces, but what do people think about B.B.'s Bluesway albums? I recently picked up Blues on Top of Blues and Blues is King and quite enjoy both. Now I'm wondering about Confessin' The Blues which seems to have quite a few older tunes I don't think B.B. recorded before or since: Confessin' The Blues, Drink Muddy Water, Goin to Chicago Blues, Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town, Cherry Red. Anyone familiar with this one?

  3. First of all, I don't have the Play the Right Thing CD. If you do, I'd be happy to read the notes if you can scan and upload them. As to your assertions about the contractual rights of Blue Note recording artists, I'd like to see something a bit more definitive before I believe your statements. Here's why: Before the BNBB bit the dust, Tom Evered told us of how happy he was to find and deliver to Jutta Hipp a very sizeable royalty check. Why would EMI provide a royalty accounting to a virtually forgotten musician if they had no contractual requirement?
  4. Well, its a shocking deal, certainly, because Cameron was considered to be worth a heckuva lot more than what San Diego is apparently giving. Wasn't he supposed to end up as part of a package for Manny? I have to guess that Cameron's stock has gone way down since that collission. I'm also not at all certain he's quite the superstar Johnny makes him out to be. Yes, he's won a couple of gold gloves. But its a stretch to say that he's an automatic 25-30 homer guy. In the seven seasons he's played at least 140 games, he's hit 25 homers twice, 30 once. The other years were 8, 18, 19 and 21. He's also a .249 lifetime BA and he strikes out a ton. Frankly, I'll be glad if this trade goes through cuz that means he won't end up in Fenway, where he couldn't carry Manny's son's jock. ← The rumors in NY are that the Cameron/Nady deal was made by the mets for two reasons: 1)payroll flexibility(Cameron makes around 6-7 mil this year, Nady 500m) 2) Part one of a Manny deal. Dan, you may get Nady on the Bosox. ← If Nady gets moved again, it will be to Tampa Bay for Huff and/or Baez. They might be flipped to Boston for Manny. There's no indication that the Sox have any interest whatsoever in Nady, unless he was a minor throw-in with far bigger names doing the heavy lifting to get Ramirez. And even then I don't see it happening. The only way the Mets get Manny is to give up their stud outfield prospect, Milledge. Not some mediocre draft pick who showed modest talent in his first year in the bigs.
  5. Was Morris Levey bootlegging copies of Alligator Boogaloo and cutting into BN/Liberty's profits and LDs royalties? On a separate issue, I'm curious what the royalty rate was back then. Even as little as .25 a copy, 150,000 in sales is almost $40,000, and that was only the first royalty statement he received. Even 7 cents a record is $10,000 and this was when new cars might have been two or three thousand dollars, and I'm pretty sure per-capita income wasn't $10,000.
  6. Hi Dan, Thanks for posting that! Does anyone know what Lou is referring to when he mentions "it was back in that time they had that big investigation and they caught 'em bootlegging records"? Who was "'em", and what was this all about? Sounds interesting... Cheers, Shane ← Uh, Chuck?
  7. Yes it is, Allen. I cropped out the track listing and credits, but the group was Victor Jones, drums, Fuller, bass, and Herman Foster, piano. Recorded live in Paris in 1982. Edited and sequenced by Malcolm Addey.
  8. Bo (wasn't Bo the name of the BNBB moderator?) Bo Donaldson Lou Donaldson
  9. I stumbled across an LD Muse album, Back Street and the liners consisted of an interesting and fairly wide ranging interview. I knew LD doesn't care for "Fusion or Con-Fusion musicians" but he doesn't much care for guys like Braxton either. So, I scanned in the interview and uploaded it to picture village, for your enjoyment.
  10. Dave, don't be so quick to dismiss Damon and the Yanks. I read on that rumour page that if Damon's price goes to 4 years/44 million, they'd be interested.

  12. I went with Male Barber, though in reality the shop (he owns it) is Coral Springs Styling. I'll have to ask him next time if he's a barber or a stylist. The price went to $18 so maybe he'd have to be considered a stylist.
  13. Beldar Prymaat John Lithgow
  14. All the reports out of New Yawk say the Yanks are far more interested in other options, even the combustible Milton Bradley, than they are in satisfying Damon's demands. They're also afraid that by the end of the contract, Damon's skills will have eroded to Bernie Williams' recent play, and they don't want a repeat of that. ******************** BTW, I'm pretty sure I started a hot stove thread after the season ended, but this one will do nicely.

  16. What Mark said, especially since your edit doesn't exactly make sense. You need a do-over.
  17. You need to delete this immediately. Jim has made it clear that soliciting burns, or offering to buy burns is strictly prohibited. And in one fell swoop, you've obliterated whatever previous mark stood for most burns requested in a single post. Edit your post and stick to requesting used CDs, not copies of them.
  18. I think Chuck's hit the nail on the head.
  19. Joan Jett William Boeing Eddie Rickenbacker
  20. I really haven't seen her act so I can't say if she's funny or not (haven't seen the movie either) but I do remember her from There's Something About Mary, and I fall on the side of this divide.
  21. Dave, didn't you yourself say that Big Papi is the very definition of MVP? The fact is, when I take off my Red Sox fan hat, I understand why A-Rod gets it as being more valuable as an all-around player. As Buck Showalter says, the game is all about run production and run reduction. Big Papi was a tremendous run producer, but when you factor in A-Rod's defense, its probably the right decision. Still he'll always be remembered for this:
  22. Too bad. $3.00 more than I'd pay for it.
  23. Haven't really thought that much about the Nelson set yet, so no comment there, but regarding your second question, it has occured to me that this may be a response to expressions of interest from people who aren't typically on jazz discussion boards ... you know, an older demographic, the same one that got the Four Freshman box produced.
  24. Since Rooster is be-boppin' along, "upping" threads all over the place, here's one more. Yeah yeah, call me an a**hole if you want, I don't care. As couw said on the other thread: Make a promise - Keep a promise
