Is it too early for a baseball hot stove Thread???
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I had to remind myself that its Hanley Ramirez, not Manny. But it wouldn't make sense otherwise. The Marlins are dumping salary by trading for Manny? God I hope this goes through ... Beckett is an ace pitcher and an acquisition like this would give Steinbrenner conniptions. -

Now it looks like the Red Sox have moved ahead of the Rangers in the Josh Beckett sweepstakes, at least according to Jayson Stark of ESPN. I think it makes sense to give up what they want for Beckett, even if it includes super prospect Jon Lester, because he's a better pitcher than Burnett and will cost much less, at least for two more years, than Burnett is demanding. And he is an established major leaguer. There are no ironclad guarantees that anyone makes the jump from the minors to the majors, even as good as Lester has shown. And as bad as Mike Lowell was last year, I think his stroke is tailor-made for Fenway, and at 31, its hard not to believe that the previous five years (averaging 25 homers and 95 RBI) are a better predictor than last season's anemic performance. If Lowell were 35, I'd say stay away from him, but I've got no problem with Lowell/Youklis handling third and first. -
Which is the one I posted the link to in the initial post of the thread.

since I upped this thread, Rooster continues to ignore it. I figured that making a flippant comment that he's upping so many other threads, here's another would draw him out, but I can only conclude that he is both shameless and hopeless. Hopeless because I don't believe he will ever post answers. Shameless because, all things considered, I don't know who else would screw things up so royally, post a lame "explanation," ("I still haven't sent out all the discs", as if anyone who hasn't received his BFT really cares anymore, and to hell with the people who DID receive it and bother to post their guesses, they can wait some more) STILL never fulfill his obligation, and yet has no problem being an active member of the board. Personally, if I were in his position, I wouldn't show my face until I'd fulfilled my obligations. I'd be too embarassed to. But that's just me.

I'm virtually certain that concert is what is on that Italian LP I linked above. While AMG does not list the Stitt-Bags LP, under Stitt's name is Back To My Own Home on Black & Blue, and the write up mentions that So unless this was a studio recording before/after that concert, I'm sure this is the show that is on the LP.

Two soundcards?? I don't think I have that ← Then you need to be able to take audio out of your DVD and into your PCs line in. Then you can use an audio software like goldwave to record that input as a wav file, save, split into tracks and burn a CD. You'll need the right adapters to go from male RCA plugs down to a 1/8th STEREO mini. Radio Shack usually has the right stuff.
-
Thanks, Jack and Marcello. I kinda figured they must have recorded together at some point. But this LP I got looks like a good 'un, and you can't beat a winning bid of $2.99!

Number one, you're going to need to have two soundcards in your PC. I use Goldwave (which costs about $30US) to transfer DVD audio to CD. The newest version of Goldwave (I've had it for at least a year though) allows you to choose several inputs, line in, microphone, aux, stereo ... I started playing the DVD and just started clicking and I found that Goldwave's input was monitoring stereo aux or something like that. I recorded the whole DVD concert as a single Wav file, split them up into tracks and burned the CD Disc-at-once, and viola, I had my audio CD. Hope that helps.

Actually, I know the answer to this one, cuz I just won the sucker: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...01788%26fvi%3D1 But I'm curious whether they ever did a date together otherwise. Looking through AMG nothing stuck out, and it occured to me its kind of surprising two guys who recorded so much and so continuously, original beboppers, and all ... so I wonder if there's anything I've missed and that they did in fact recorded elsewhere together.

Is this going on in the Politics forum? (I don't "see" that forum) I hadn't even known Clementine had been back. So I can't say if Clem has gone beyond the bounds here or not, but it sure as heck would be no skin off my nose, or any great loss to this community, if he went the way of Aric and Greg.

Brad, Yes, I was referring to Cameron, with a bit of hyperbole (obviously any major league player can carry the jock of a five year old) but not too much: You don't replace one of the greatest righthanded run producers in the history of the game with a guy who hits .249 and strikes out 140 times a year. To move Manny, the Sox have to get not only *major* established talent back but also *major* prospects, and that means Milledge. As for the Pedro trade, the Sox sent Pavano and a player to be named, who ended up being Tony Armas, Jr., who made the major leagues to stay in 2000 and whose considerable potential was interrupted by a shoulder injury. If healthy, Armas is a very solid major league pitcher. NOT junk. -

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2229919 Interesting report that the Red Sox and Rangers are in discussions with the Marlins about trading for Josh Beckett. The Marlins are insisting on taking Mike Lowell off their hands, and that frankly doesn't bother me. Sure, he had an awful year, but he's only 31, and has been a consistent bat for many years before. For a dead-pull, fly-ball hitter, the Monster makes for an inviting target, and for a power-RBI guy, his strikeout numbers are pretty good. Between Youklis and Lowell, I think the Sox could cover their third base and first base needs just fine. Beckett? You have to wonder about his outbursts on the mound, but he's got a couple things going better than Burnett or Pavano: He's 8 games over .500 on his career. Oh, and he pitched a complete game shutout to beat the Yanks in the World Series. The Marlins want super-prospect Hanley Ramirez and one of the pitching prospects, John Lester or Anabel Sanchez. Lester is too good to give up in this deal though, and Ramirez may have to be considered as their fallback position if Renteria doesn't return to his all-star level. hmmm..... OOPS: Now according to the Palm Beach Post, the Rangers are close to trading Blalock and a pitcher for Lowell and Beckett. Not sure I'd give up Blalock - that's a downgrade to go to Lowell. -

He stunk up the place, went on the DL, kept being reported as "close" and then ended up shutting it down with "shoulder tendinitis". Pavano's "old self" was essentially the same as Burnett, except I think Pavano's lifetime mark was a game over .500, and Burnett's lifetime mark is a game under. The only appreciable difference in their careers is that Pavano managed to go 18-8 in his walk year, while Burnett lost his last six decisions on his way out of Florida. -

Re-read the points, Dave. I doubt there's anyone to take Pavano, not without the Yanks picking up 9 of 10 million. And Ryan might bring back the halycon days, but he's NOT interested in being anyone's set-up man. I'd say its more likely the Sox give up on Foulke and sign Ryan, but anyway you slice it, if the reports are accurate, Ryan will not be in pinstripes. Heck, he came to New York this week and spent two days at Shea. No trips to the Stadium though. -

Interesting tidbits on the Yankees page of that MLB rumor site: Pavano wants out of New York But after his failed season, who would take that bloated contract off their hands, even with this thin crop of free agent pitchers? BJ Ryan really isn't interested in setting up for Rivera Apparently just a negotiating tactic when he said he'd be interested. Giles is their main target for centerfield, and Lupica thinks that's ridiculous And who can blame him, since Giles has played somethnig like 35 games in centerfield in the last four years? He's a great table-setter, still some pop in his bat, but is he an upgrade over Bernie, when he's 35 years old and they're thinking of tossing 33 mil for three years?? That's setting yourself up for Bernie redux. -

What label is this CD on? Courtesy of a certain board member, I just got me two CDs worth of primo Lockjaw at Kimball's in the early 80s, accompanied by Buddy Montgomery. Can't wait to spin that this weekend.
