I kept saying we need to avoid the fake b**bs, but damn, I didn't realize it was that important!

Then the directions should be to delete or label system restore points as being infected, rather than getting rid of all of them. Basically, by seeing and reacting to your suggested course of events first and not seeing Kevin Bresnahan's recommendation til later, I'm screwed, royally. (not that I'm blaming you, John, but AAARRRGGGGHHHH Obviously, I should be more familiar with my operating system and its features, but now it seems I only have a few choices: Try to follow the directions again and see if it works this time. Live with the current infection (again, 99% is gone via spysweeper and adaware-the only enduring annoyance is the links that cashback peppers your web pages with.) Back up everything and reformat the hard drive.

Assuming the master list is correct, and considering that BFT #17 has been in active discussion for a while now, I respectfully suggest that its time to start your signup thread. Sincerely, The co-Father of the Blindfold Test, AKA, the Forum Scold

In regards to the suggestions posted to my Adware/spyware thread, I followed the link couw posted and tried to follow the directions for the cash back infection. One of those was disabling system restore, which is a function I'd never used before. Well, I was about 99% successful with the fixing, as far as all the unwanted icons were concerned. But after reading Kevin B.'s suggestion, I decided to check out the System Restore option. Does disabling system restore delete all of the existing restore points?? And what the hell is the point of that? Basically I've found that the options for system restore is restricted to the date that I disabled and then re-enabled the function. And that ain't gonna do sh*t for me. And I'm f-ing pissed.

Figures it was Manny or Millar. 3.5 back of the Yanks with three at Fenway starting tomorrow. We play so much better at home, I don't think its too much to hope for a sweep, if Pedro gets us going on Friday. Wakefield has historically baffled the free swingers in the Yankee lineup, and its Schilling on Sunday.

Certainly seems to be ... if it was deleted I'm surprised B3-er didn't make an announcement. What will Evan, Bentsy and Lon do now??? And does Rainy think that women will start joining in droves now?
-
Its always been 2/3/2. Which is why the Red Sox will be favored over the Cards.

Right now, Harold, my darker impulses are taking over and I fear a collapse. We have to get our act together against Baltimore cause we've got seven more with them and have not handled them this year at all. In fact, I dare say that's the difference in the division race: The Birds roll over for the Yanks but play us tougher than anyone, and there's your four and a half games. We were due for a let up, but there's no time for it to linger. Glad that Schilling goes tonite.

Adware/Spyware Clearinghouse
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks, John. -
I've never had a big problem with spyware/adware slipping into my PC, at least since, on the recommendation of our server guru, I installed SpySweeper. Then came an innocent Google search last Friday. I clicked on one of the links, and BOOM all my protective software started squacking. SpySweeper says there's a trojan horse. AVG says there's another trojan horse. SpySweeper warns me that a program is trying to change my homepage to some porn site. So, I start closing programs so I can try to get rid of these programs, and that's when I see what its done to my desktop: 18 new icons have suddenly appeared, from executables to BS shortcuts. And ah, the chutzpah! A link to a pop-up blocker, delivered by a nefarious program that's popping up ads everywhere I click! A link to a spyware/adware blocker, delivered via spyware/adware! Un-freaking-believable! So I spent the rest of the afternoon running the virus and spyware programs and actually had to leave before they were done. Come Monday, the trojan horses are gone and after I ran Spysweeper one more time, this time with nothing running in the background, it seemed to take care of everything. Until today that is. Apparently, by rebooting, some but not all of the most annoying things have come back: A new toolbar in Internet Explorer A little doggie "Cashback" link on my toolbar Links that appear on any web page I go to based on key words (like here, everywhere the word "music" appears, its become a link to an MP3 site.) So, even though I should just do a search myself, can I get some recommendations for the very best adware/spyware removal products? Then, maybe other people can post their horror stories here, and everyone else who makes ill-fated clicks can find what they need in one place. This Public Service Announcement was brought to you by Dan Gould, chastened Web user.

I'm pretty sure Blockbuster isn't planning to offer store-level depth of selection for their online members. They're certain to try to match Netflix for breadth and depth, perhaps with the NC-17 restrictions mentioned earlier.
-
Haven't compared as my wife and I have been satisfied with Netflix. Our only problem has been dawdling on seeing what shows up. If you keep watching them as they arrive, the monthly fee is not bad. But if you end up going a month and only getting three DVDs, then $20+ is overpaying for your rentals, big time. I can understand the urge to go to the store and get something NOW, but I'm not missing the line at blockbuster one bit. I'd give Netflix some time before they figure out if their price needs to come down, but either way, I've seen the future, and its DVD rental via online ordering and USPS delivery!

And I'm glad I left this up long enough for you to get a chance to solo on it, cuz I was coming back to pull the plug on this for lack of audience response! Thanks, FFA.

No wonder he's a power seller ... and I'm not. Is that what they teach in those "make money on Ebay" courses?

If this is the girl we're talking about, I'm impressed, but she's no Nigella.

I hope this questions makes sense or is remotely interesting to the musicians here. Otherwise, if its a silly question coming from a non-musician, I'll be deleting this faster than CBS disavowed those now infamous memos! OK, that didn't happen all that fast, but trust me, I'll make this go away. OK, here we go. This question came to me when I was thinking about what I think someone told Lee Morgan (was it Blakey?) about soloing: grab the audience at the start and at the end and it doesn't matter what you do in between. I may be mistaking who said it to whom, but I think that was the message, anyway: Does your approach to your solo vary depending on where you are in the solo order? (And I mean that other than the obvious way of taking something the previous soloist did and commenting on it) If you solo first, do you specifically try to really grab the audience from the git-go? If you are soloing later, and someone is really killing, is there a chance of it taking you out of your game, as in, what the hell do I do following that mofo? Hoping this makes for interesting discussion ...

Well obviously I was wrong. Now I'll hear Yankee fans tell me how by all rights it should have been a sweep. Well, I concede nothing, least of all the division. Obviously we'll need a little help, but with three to play at Fenway and three other series, including the Yanks having to face Minnesota as they line up their starters for the playoffs, anything can still happen. Enjoy it for now, Harold.

Hold onto that limb... you're off to a bad start today, my friend. Jesus Christ, you aren't kidding. Lowe is a flipping moron. But I'll still take 2 of three ...
-
Marcus, If you don't mind my asking, who is the "plus three"? Is Hazeltine one of them, by chance?
-
OUCH! That one HAD to hurt. 2-1 lead, Rivera on the mound, its over, right? Wrong. In fact, when you talk about Aura and Mystique, those famous strip club dancers, Rivera really doesn't have it against the Sox, I'd wager. Since the start of the 2002 season, Rivera has now blown five out of 13 save chances against the Sox. He's still a great closer, but the Sox won't lay down against him, not since Mueller in July and Damon yesterday. BTW, my two of three prediction was predicated on the Yanks winning last night, so I guess I'll have to go out on a limb and predict a sweep now. 2.5, 2 in the loss column, 16 to play.

When I first moved to south Florida, we had Floyd bearing down on us before it decided to move north. At that point the collection wasn't half what it is today, and considering how close to the ocean my apartment was (not half a mile from the boundary of the evacuation zone) I spent maybe two hours boxing up the CDs and getting them in the car, which turned out to be the same two hours that Floyd started his big turn away from us, and I spent another two hours getting them out of the car and back in the racks. Since then, having expanded the collection and changed storage mediums to a binder system, I am secure in the knowledge that should a hurricane be on its way, I wouldn't have to make the agonizing choice of which babies to save.

Except of course that both teams are virtually assured of the playoffs. Can I lay it out for you? Sox take two of three this weekend. The deficit is 2.5 Pick up a game next week when Lilly beats the Yanks. That's 1.5 Sweep at Fenway. That's a 1.5 game lead. Minnesota helps out by taking two of three from the Yanks following the Massacre at the Fens. Sox clinch the AL East and home field advantage throughout the playoffs on the last Friday of the season in Baltimore. Sounds pretty reasonable, doesn't it?
-
OK, my mistake. But you have to admit, it looks strange when a first post is an announcement of an AOTW.
-
Am I missing something here? Did someone give Reynolds the so-called "shoulder tap", or has he made his first post here the rather preseumptive announcement of the next AOTW?
