Cup of urine a day keeps ailments at bay
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Not only does it do that, but according to Moises Alou, it does great things for the hands, too! -
Well, Harold Thought I'd check in with a report after the first three of that nine game stretch. Red Sox 4, Angels 3 to complete a three game sweep, making it nine in a row and 15 of 16. The wild card lead is 4 1/2, and the fading fast Rangers are 6 back and next in line. But then again, we probably are peaking too early.

How much for shipping one 'used' CD from Amazon???
Dan Gould replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I think used CD shipping rates vary are decided by the seller. There should be a link if you go through the checkout process or somewhere in there. -
You're a funny guy, Dave. Funny too is how much you sound like Harold Reynolds. Did you watch Baseball Tonite last night? They had Harold Reynolds and Peter Gammons arguing their cases before Judge John Kruk. Gammons talked about FACTS, like the fact that the Yankees can't run a starter who throws over 90 MPH, or the fact that superior pitching has always been the deciding factor, and that the Red Sox clearly have superior pitching. All Reynolds could appeal to was the assertion that the Yanks always hit a rough patch, and they always get their stuff together afterwards. Completely ignoring the fact that this bears no resemblence with those other teams. Did you see the ESPN.com poll? More people predict the Yanks to miss the play-offs than to win the World Series. Sure, the Sox can't keep it up like this, but the problem with your assertion of peaking too early is the fact that with Schilling and Pedro and Arroyo and Wakefield and Lowe (who until last night had gone 40+ games pitching at least five innings every start), no losing streak is likely to build up. Will they win 14 of 15 the rest of the way? Probably not. But I bet that 11 of 15 will be more than good enough.

WOOH! This current (8 AM) trajectory just shifted signficantly to the west, but nothing else is updated so I don't know what the projection is as far as landfall. But it looks like Vero is less under the gun, and maybe Palm Beach is more .... Not good!

Thanks for posting this, Brad. I think I'll listen to one of the tracks on my BFT. Might be Disc 1, Track 5, or maybe Disc 2, Track 1, or is it Track 10? Not really sure anymore ...

A fizzle would take an extraordinary act of God, at this point ... a passover (or a near miss) just needs a little help from a little high pressure ridge sitting out there in the Atlantic. They keep saying it will pull it North, and I sure hope they're right, because otherwise I'm gonna be in or near the thick of it!

I'm already thinking of where to put the Mosaic boxes. My guess is they'll fare best triple-bagged in one of those big garbage bags. About 2/3 of the others are already in binders, so I'm less concerned about them. Boarding up the house is going to be the biggest pain in the ass. We're lucky in that we have so-called "Bahama" shutters, so on Thursday my wife will be heading up the ladder to drop them down and secure them. I have no idea how good they'll be in 130+ MPH winds, but at least its something to protect the windows, without drilling holes into the exterior to put plywood up! (And the collection, being in binders, can be thrown in the car lickety-split, so if we have to high-tail it, I won't have any worries there.

Its still too early to know for sure, but it certainly looks like south Florida is gonna get smacked around by Hurricane Frances. So think good thoughts for Big Wheel & Evan (probably less in the path in Miami) and MartyJazz and yours truly (potentially real close to where its projected to come ashore, north of beautiful Palm Beach County). (If I'm posting the answers to my BFT on Saturday or Sunday, you'll know that chances are good me and Marty made it through OK. If you don't hear from me for a week or more, please contact the Delray Beach High School Storm Shelter-and feel free to start the next BFT in the meantime

Oh, I think Cashman's guts are already spilt on the carpet in Tampa.

Are y'all certain you're not worried yet? Sox 10, Angels 7. Indians 22, Yankees 0 And that was at the Bronx, no less, the worst loss in franchise history, and with Vasquez the starter, to boot! :g So, the lead in the East is down to 3 1/2, while the Sox lead in the Wild Card is 2 1/2. Just think: One more night like tonite, the Sox will be closer to first place than the Angels will be to the Wild Card.
-
You know, maybe its the fact that a hurricane is taking aim at South Florida, but I have to say that I read this thread topic as, "Can you believe how lame local weather reporting used to be?" which lead me to think, "No duh!" Then I opened the thread and still wasn't enlightened very much.
-
Glad to see more people participating. I'm thinking I'll let things continue through the weekend, and assuming the Hurricane doesn't blow south Florida away, I'll post answers on or around Labor Day. Thanks for the guesses so far, everybody!

Did you see the picture on ESPN of Bonds hitting his first home run, and now? There's no way he hasn't juiced, big time. I mean, we're supposed to believe that its entirely coincidental that his buddy runs an illegal doping company, everyone who used BALCO in other sports was doping, but no one in baseball was doping? How stupid are we supposed to be?
-
Oh, and by the way, in sweeping four games from Detroit, we allowed a grand total of 6 runs. And Detroit has scored as many runs this season as the Halos.

Well Dave, you can't say that the Sox aren't entering this stretch of the schedule at the right time. Now, the Angels are red hot too, but the Sox get the first six of those games at home, where they are more than 20 games above .500. Let's see, the Sox are second in the league in team ERA, tops in wins by the starting pitchers, and tops in runs, slugging and OBP. Their only hole was defense, and that's been plugged up with the Nomar trade, and that's not even considering that Pokey Reese and Trot Nixon are about ready to start rehab assignments this week. The Sox look so much more like a World Series team than the Yankees its not even funny. In fact, considering the way their competition is playing, I'd say its more likely the Yanks miss the play-offs than make the World Series. And that would be too delicious, because if 180 million dollars doesn't get you to the playoffs, Steinbrenner's head may very well explode. But you're right, we'll talk after this stretch. In fact, maybe I'll provide daily updates. But I'll tell you this, the Yanks better hope they get some separation back during this stretch, because they've shown they're unlikely to beat the Sox head-to-head, so if the lead is in the viscinity of three games when they go at it again, its anyone's division crown.

Yankee fans, The lead is down to 4 1/2 games. Worried yet? You ought to be.

Should I stay in Philly or move to Seattle?
Dan Gould replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I voted for Seattle because you intend to move there, you have a good offer on the table, you're prepared to deal with a bi-coastal marriage, and most of all, you intend to move their eventually, so it really seems like the right time to me. Good luck in whatever you choose, Peter! -
Man lay dead in bed for two years-Condo fees
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Shouldn't his estate sue to get the condo fees back? I mean, HE might have authorized the charges, but once he died, the estate controls his $$. And its not as if he got any value from the condo association as he slowly mummified. -
Ironic this should appear today, as this past weekend I became totally fed up with myself and have re-dedicated myself to what has to be done. The keys for me are steady exercise and a weakness for snacking (what's the point of a small, healthy lunch if you pig out when you get home?). So: #1, I've started to clear dollar bills out of my wallet before I go to work: No singles, no $$ for the vending machine. #2, Each day, I'm going thirty minutes on the exercycle plus strength training as soon as I get home. This kills two birds with one stone: getting the exercise in, and doing it at a time I might otherwise be snacking. Now, once I get to dinner time, I'm good for the rest of the night. I just wish I could find a tennis partner, as I think that would be far more effective a conditioning activity than the exercycle. But if I don't, I am going to give serious consideration to an approach that worked great about ten years ago: Two-a-days. The question is, could I stand to trim fifteen more minutes from my sleep in order to do that, and will my legs hold up to the pounding? (the weight started creeping up when I stopped using a stairmaster, something that happened partially due to the development of severe leg fatigue. A strange thing, actually, since at one time I was easily going fourty five plus minutes on the stepper 4 or 5 times a week. Then suddenly my legs started protesting, and I cut back and cut back and so long as I was playing tennis you couldn't tell the difference, but now ...

There's not been an ID of track 5 yet. Were you asking about track 7 instead?
