  1. Speaking of the grocery store, how about incompetent baggers?
  2. Discuss disc #2 here.
  3. Oh heck, I'm home from work, that means the weekend's started. So let's start talking 'bout my wonderful taste in music. Seriously, I hope people enjoyed the discs. I'd like to remind everyone that there is a theme here, an element which unites every track. I also spent a good deal of time on the programming of tunes, both in the juxtoposition of certain tunes, and the overall programming arc which I hope is evident. Looking forward to the discussions-but don't expect me to give any hints, or acknowledge any correct guesses!
  4. Never warmed to Blue Spirits; I think I had it twice in the past, actually. I seem to remember a mix of edgier tunes with more standard hard bop (guess which I preferred). Haven't missed it, and guess what? Neither a new RVG mastering nor the raves of this thread are giving me any urge to revisit it. See? You can ignore the siren call of this board to spend, spend spend ...

  6. I couldn't identify the tenor at the time. I might do better now 30+ years later. I don't remember being very impressed with the date at the time. Yeah, its really one of those things that only mad collectors like some of the people here would want to hear, or want to know who the tenor was ... we're nuts like that. Of course, Roy Haynes is still alive, someone should ask him if he remembers the gig. I'm sure he does, after all he's only done, what, a few thousand gigs in his sixty years in the business? B-)
  7. Any idea who the unidenfied tenor could be?
  8. Someone should direct Mike Fitzgerald's attention to that ebay auction, it sounds like he's got some corrections to make to the Transition discography.
  9. Tailgaters are scum-suckers. Anyone else watch someone roar up behind them and think to yourself, "I'm going to introduce this jerk to the speed limit," and then watch him turn assorted shades of purple?
  10. Well, we're at 21 arrived, so I'll start the discussion Saturday morning, I think.
  11. Since I've only heard the one about bears, mine was an easy choice. Lucky you didn't ask about the Pope.
  12. Actually, I was thinking about getting it started Friday-the boss is away tomorrow, and you know how the mice will play .... Actually, I've just got too much on my plate tomorrow and can't be following a discussion all day, so the weekend it shall be.
  13. James Spaulding tears up 'Soul Station" on a Muse CD from the early 90s, Blues Nexus.
  14. We're at 16 now, so maybe the discussion will start over the weekend? Or should I wait to give people more time to listen to nearly two and a half hours of music?
  15. I'm not going to vote but years and years ago, when I was a voracious child reader, I borrowed my father's copy of Yes I Can and while I have no idea how much of it was polished up to make Sammy look the best that he could, I remember it being quite a remarkable and enjoyable book. Before he became a caricature, Sammy was a helluva entertainer.
  16. Ballcaps have other valuable practical uses, like hiding unwashed hair when you just need to run out and get the Sunday paper or run to the ATM machine. And don't deny you guys haven't done that yourselves!
  17. Forget that. There's no harm in expressing support for your favored team. What I say is: confiscate any baseball cap being worn backward. Then have your bonfire.
  18. I believe we're at seven recipients so far. Maybe early next week I'll open the discussion threads.
  19. I haven't heard the Hancock LP. I rank Straight Up ahead of Caribbean Suite, which doesn't seem fully realized. Or maybe its the fact that its not his typical straightahead date. But I'd definitely go with Straight Up first.
  20. No problem, Adam, yours will be in the mail soon.
  21. There's a reason why the 60s-70s is universally recognized as the single ugliest clothing era in the history of mankind.
  22. Hopefully Europe will get a few delivered soon. I won't start the discussion til we get 18 or 20 confirmed recipients.
  23. Well, at least you have an excuse. Not as if you're a Brit and we're "separated by a common language"
  24. Didn't I acknowledge that when I posted what you are quoting?
  25. Thanks for the info Chuck! As to your question, why would I when fine people like yourself are more than happy to step up with the answers to my occasional inquiry? Thanks again!
