  1. Thanks, all. The atmosphere I'm talking about is typified by but not confined to The Babe Thread. Honestly, I have no wish to change this board--and the main reason is that I don't think it can be done; too few people seem to have an interest in seeing it done. As I said, I was just letting off steam. I'm comfortable at JazzCorner, which has always had quite a few active female posters and which recently acquired a bunch of new female posters, including a couple of very young 'uns. "Oinky" posts at JC are as likely to get challenged by men as by women. However, as some JC posters can tell you, I raise holy hell at JC if no one has beat me to it. Chaney--I posted there only once or twice, and because of the "welcome" I received, I stopped posting there too.
  2. Noj--Thanks! I may keep doing a little posting and a little lurking here, but for the reasons I mentioned above, I can't consider it "another home." I don't expect things to change, but when I saw the references to a "gentlemen's club," I couldn't resist letting off steam. Uli--Thanks! I can only repeat the fundamental question: Where are the women on this board?
  3. With all the talk about a "gentlemen's club," no one has asked what to me, a woman, seems like a glaringly obvious question: Where are the women on this board? There seem to be very few, and frankly, y'all seem to like that just fine. It may be that such threads as The Babe Thread--and a "we're all guys" tone in general--tend to make women feel unwelcome here. Again frankly, it seems as if some of you would rather ogle fantasy women than maintain an atmosphere in which you could interact with real women.
  4. I can't really recommend my coffeemaker (an old Braun model) because it makes lukewarm coffee. But don't get too hung up on searching for a five-cupper. AFAIK, any ten- or twelve-cupper can make less than a full pot--ya put in less water, ya get less coffee. (My coffeemaker is a ten-cupper, and every day I fill it with water to the four-cup line and make what Braun considers to be four cups.)
  5. I can speak only for myself, but from what little I've sampled of his posts, no, thank you.
  6. Berigan, I lost my mom to cancer four years ago, and all I could stand to do was skim this thread. I know that some of these places were mentioned, but please look at the list linked at the bottom of this post and 1. Make every possible effort to get your mom seen and treated at one of these top cancer centers, at least initially. Cancer patients there really do have better outcomes statistically. 2. When you make the appointment, stress that you want your mom to be seen and treated by an experienced oncologist at the center, not by an oncology resident or intern. (We found that one out the hard way.) I wish you and your family strength and the best of luck. http://www3.cancer.gov/cancercenters/centerslist.html
  7. Just want to second the observation that it's a moving, wondrous, joyous, not-to-be-missed experience to hear Papa Joe live. (Randy Peterson and especially Mat Maneri are also very enjoyable live.) And I went in with virtually no exposure to anything remotely similar. I followed up with Going to Church, but I'll be getting one of the older albums next.
  8. Don't worry, Ron. We (mostly I) continued the discussion on the "wrong track" (or something like that).
  9. Hee, hee--I wonder what size is REALLY the largest. It certainly isn't 14.
  10. Thanks, Jim. I'm especially interested in finding out whether Font, Size, and Color can be closed individually, without using Close All Tags (or typing codes manually). P.S.--Please excuse our discussing this topic here instead of in Organissimo - Forum Discussion, or maybe someone will move the relevant posts there.
  11. What do you mean? (In Normal Mode:) Use the Bold button as a toggle switch--click it when you want to open boldface, then click it again when you want to close boldface. (Ditto for the Italic, Underline, and Quote buttons--and maybe others.) (Also in Normal Mode:) One can close any open tags all at once by clicking on Close All Tags, but I can't figure out how to close the tags for Font, Size, and Color individually (in an efficient manner). Can you help, folks? I'm finding that the http:// feature works pretty much the way that we're used to, Ron, except that one specifies the URL first and the text to be displayed second instead of vice versa. Just delete "My Webpage" and specify the actual text. link to a nefarious rival jazz message board And as always, simply typing (or pasting) a URL in the proper form (including the http:// part) will create a link: http://www.jazzcornertalk.com/speakeasy/
  12. Wow! I was a verbally precocious kid, but nothing like that!
  13. At least you're used to them. You said it, Moné. I almost wrote "another sadistic board administrator," but I didn't want anyone to think I meant Lois, and I didn't want to diss you sort of behind your back.
  14. I do the same thing on all the boards that I visit. The only thing I have to hide is the ridiculous amount of time I spend on the boards! Thanks, Ed! I'll log out and log in again.
  15. Great. If you feel like it, tell us how the show was. [dumb portion of this post deleted]
  16. Hi. In My Controls, Board Settings, I checked "yes" for "Do you wish to hide your session id in the links?" But that isn't doing what I want, which is to not have my screenname show up at the bottom of the board when I'm on the board but to simply be tallied as an "anonymous member." I'd appreciate help.
  17. Yeah, I really wanted to go. But I just traveled to NYC for Dennis G.'s gig at Tonic last week.
