  1. http://tinyurl.com/March-1-update So far, the church's website hasn't been updated with post-petition info., but it has a page for general donations.
  2. Many apologies; even after a Google search, all I could find was a remotely related thread from 2004. That's where I posted about the church's current housing crisis. My post was followed by a post by l p (a third post, by Hardbopjazz, consists of the "St. John" portrait that appears in #1 here). Please take a moment to visit those two posts, which contain additional info. (I would have quoted them here, but I couldn't get the quotes to appear in a different thread.)
  3. Not only did Organissimo's search engine fail me, but Google's search engine failed me—and I'm certainly as good a Googler as the next bear. Here's a thread about the church's current housing crisis: CHURCH OF JOHN COLTRANE UNDER THREAT Apologies to Hardbopjazz, who started that thread, and to everyone else.
  4. An article posted on a KQED webpage February 24, 2016: Coltrane Church Told By San Francisco Sheriff It Has a Week To Relocate At the end of the article: And if you're willing to make phone calls to four members of the landlord organization's board: At the petition site, see the Petition Update "Call to Action," dated February 26, 2016. Finally, the church's website is here: http://www.coltranechurch.org/
  5. I'm adding to the chorus— —and I'm guessing that Passing Ships, one of the new purchases, will be well received.
  6. A similar Arts for Art fest is coming up. If you're interested in Vision, these fests strike me as being comparable, so I hope you're checking them out! NYC FreeJazz Summit / Justice Is Compassion Part 2 March 26–April 10, 2016 http://www.artsforart.org http://www.artsforart.org/event/justice-compassion2/schedule
  7. tickets http://www.jazzgallery.org http://www.ingridlaubrock.com http://firehouse12records.com/album/ubatuba http://www.composersnow.org (Its 2016 fest continues through the end of February with a full schedule of "new music" in several genres.)
  8. @ skeith — Turn up your volume and paste this into your browser's address bar: http://dothemath.typepad.com/files/ida-lupino-correct-speed.mp3 You should then hear a pitch-corrected and speed-corrected version of the "Ida Lupino" on Closer that Rob Schwimmer provided to Ethan Iverson (two of the seven pianists at the Paul Bley celebration, as you doubtless know). And you should see a player that has "time elapsed" info., unlike the player that Ethan Iverson used in the relevant post on his blog Do The Math. That has worked for me on the only two browsers I have, Internet Explorer and Firefox (I'm in Windows 7 on a desktop PC). Iverson added a long series of updates to his blog post announcing the Paul Bley celebration. He addresses the speed issue near the very end of those updates:
  9. As usual, I couldn't make it to NYC, but I'm doing my "glad that this thread (presumably) turned out to be useful" dance.
  10. I don't know, and it looks as if he's uncredited. I checked info. on The Big Broadcast (1932) at IMDb, AllMovie, and various Google search results sites. FWIW, at YouTube, a commenter on the video clip wrote (sic), "And as was so typical of the times, the negro actor who played the shoeshine boy is not credited." The Mills Brothers and Cab Calloway got credited—thank heaven for small favors. But then so did a number of bit players who were white.
  11. The "Boston TV" videos are from June 1966. I know that WGBH-TV (among others) aired Kenny Burrell in the Trumpet and Guitar Workshop at Newport Jazz Fest (early July 1966), produced by N.E.T. (Jazz at Newport), but that's all I know. However, I don't know squat.
  12. http://ww2.kqed.org/arts/2016/02/06/dan-hicks-san-francisco-folk-jazz-pioneer-dead-at-74/ And so a third S.F.-based musician has passed away this week at age 74. Edit: Or one could say "California-based" and add Maurice White. R.I.P.
  13. (I discovered this thread recently and have only glanced at a few posts; please forgive any gratuitous duplication!) Anne Briggs accompanied by Bert Jansch on a song that he'd learned from her much earlier---it's a showcase for Anne: Here's an example of what Bert Jansch did with the song solo: I think it's fair to say that everyone else was covering, however inventively, a rendition by Anne, Bert, or both. The first video was drawn from the DVD at Amazon.com (there's also a soundtrack CD) An article: Acoustic Routes: celebrating a legend The second video was drawn from the DVD Fingerstyle Guitar: New Dimensions and Explorations, Vol. One
  14. 1. I'll bite. The white bearded dude bears a superficial resemblance to Mat's late, great papa. Who is it? Edit: I had to put this post aside and didn't see that jlhoots had already noted that resemblance. 2. Of course I recognize a few people in your pics, but I could use brief IDs in general. 3. Congratulations from me too! 4. Please post a pic of yourself sometime, or PM me one. Getting to meet you at some show in NYC seems to have incurred a multiyear delay.
  15. I hope somebody reissues the duo album he did with Gary Peacock. Meanwhile . . .
  16. https://www.facebook.com/GraceSlickOfficial/ http://www.sfgate.com/music/article/Jefferson-Airplane-s-Paul-Kantner-dies-at-74-6791483.php I'm old; I got to see the Airplane at least twice. R.I.P.
  17. @ GA Russell (et al.) --- I too am using a Dell PC (desktop) with Windows 7 and the latest Firefox. When you said, "I have tried changing the font, but nothing has happened," I figured that you probably did so by going into Tools → Options → Content → Fonts & Colors, but I wasn't sure. Anyway, for future use, if you're not familiar with it, I hope you'll try changing the Zoom level directly from the Firefox Menu Bar, as pictured below. (Keyboard CTRL commands are shown too, for reference, but the menu also gives you the option to "Zoom Text Only," which apparently doesn't have a corresponding keyboard CTRL command.) "Reset" restores everything, including "Zoomed Text Only," to its default size. Changing the Zoom level, by whatever means, is a "specific website only" deal---hence, everything was tiny only on Organissimo. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, and I'm glad you got the problem solved!
  18. With 24 photos (and now the correct spelling of "Jazzfest" in the headline). http://jazztimes.com/articles/171543-nyc-winter-jazz-fest-2016-comprehensive-coverage
  19. I'm not a member of FB, and the link takes me to a blank page with a log-in prompt---"You must log in to continue." Maybe check the settings for privacy or whatever?
  20. What Mike asked and said. A size setting probably got changed by accident, and that can easily be corrected. If you have more than one browser, you could check to see whether the same problem occurs when you visit Organissimo via a different browser. (Don't worry about the problem's occurring only on Organissimo. Your supposed site preferences for Organissimo are being "remembered.") By now, closing and reopening your browser, clearing your cache, or some other action may have solved the problem.
