  2. I discovered that he already did, Steve. It's track 7 on Herido: Live at St. James Cathedral, Chicago. Here's a glowing obit for Tim Green from nola.com / the Times-Picayune: http://tinyurl.com/TimGreenObit R.I.P.

  4. I found parts of the Spellman book online, found some relevant passages from Cecil's section (on pp. 62-63), and took screenshots of them. The resulting image takes up too much space to post in this thread, but here's a link to it (from my Flickr account): http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2921/14274998340_86b0d12256_o.jpg In Firefox, one can just click on the image to magnify it to a nice legible size, but that should be easy with any browser. (Don't mind me; I like to look things up.)
  5. Here it is, on one of my very favorite albums of his: http://youtu.be/fuMXzbaZ7JA Cape Verde
  6. At the Dolphy fest on Friday, May 30: http://youtu.be/tTAJ5e-TuY8
  7. Allen--- Thanks. We have different perceptions; to me, the review comments sound enthusiastic enough that I'd be kicking myself for not attending had I not already spent a long time agonizing over the decision.
  8. Thanks, Steve! Found the comments by you and Justin V (as well as your comment ). And please do get to my neck of the forest! I bet we could find some tempting event(s) here, if necessary. Did you see the comments
  9. Belated thanks to Steve, relyles, and bertrand for addressing my transportation problems (here or privately). One of the festival organizers answered my phone call, gave me an idiot-proof plan for local public transportation on Friday, and even called me back to correct himself. (No plan for Saturday would have been idiot-proof, and the organizers hadn't followed through on providing a shuttle.) But after much agonizing, I decided not to spend 10+ hours on buses and trains to attend a 3½-hour concert. Thanks for the review, relyles. Any other reviews? (Steve? Bertrand, if you went? Anyone else?)
  10. If you're going . . . I'm a nondriver, and I'm having trouble finding workable public transportation options (especially for leaving Montclair State U. and getting back to wherever). I will gladly contribute some money toward gas or even a car rental if you can give me a ride --- to the event from the DC area (where I live) Manhattan Newark or maybe some other location --- or from the event back to any of those places --- on Friday (preferred), Saturday, or both days Please PM me ASAP if you might be able to help. Many thanks!
  11. Allen--- I think I'll leave it at "I don't know." If you want the project organizers to comment, you can contact them at either of the websites linked to in #9. The project organizers have just reconfirmed that the fest will take place even if the fundraising target ($35,000) isn't met. Tickets are now for sale at https://www.showclix.com/event/3841236.
  12. Similarly, I abridged the last paragraph of the book (English only)---purposefully and very slightly, with omissions indicated, of course---and posted the result on another message board, here: the (abridged) last paragraph of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez (1967; translated by Gregory Rabassa) R.I.P.
  13. Bertrand et al.--- The event organizers have now posted some information that answers the questions in #8: Schedule posted Thursday, April 17, at the Indiegogo fundraising page: http://igg.me/at/dolphysound The website: http://seedartists.org/ I strongly encourage you to take a look, or another look, at those two sites to get info. and updates on the project. Each of them provides ways to "Contact Us" in case you have more questions. I have no connection with the project; I'm just an enthusiastic supporter who made a very modest donation (which I jokingly called "generous" in a post above). And folks, if you want the Dolphy fest to take place on the dates planned and with the lineup planned, please help make it happen! The sooner the organizers raise enough funds, the sooner they can solidify their plans.
  14. Uli, bertrand and all--- If you can, please help make it happen! Some people have contributed as little as $5. Some contributors choose to display their name as Anonymous or use a handle, and there's also the option of displaying the amount of one's contribution as "Undisclosed" (edit: they're now using "Private").

  16. I first encountered the Dolphy project and visited Indiegogo yesterday, and I have no connection with them other than having made a generous donation that will earn me a "thank you." In reverse order, I searched for the answer to your second question at Indiegogo and found this: http://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/527456-Following-Up-and-Sending-Perks I suggest that you contact the Dolphy project folks (SeedArtists.org) and ask them your first question. There's contact info. in the big display ad above as well as a Comments form at http://igg.me/at/dolphysound and a Contact form at http://seedartists.org/. Edit: I just found this, near the bottom of Seed Artists' Indiegogo page:
  17. The Baltimore show. Y'all come! creative differences presents http://www.creativedifferences.us Saturday, May 31 @ 9pm $20 Brötzmann/Parker/Drake at The Windup Space, 12 W. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201 http://www.thewindupspace.com
  18. Would be extremely interested in this, but an e-book? Too bad ... Not likely I am going to spring for an e-reader even for this ... Well, we'll see ... If an e-book is available on Amazon, you can read it on your computer or possibly on a portable device that you own---no e-reader required. [Amazon:] Read Anywhere with our Free Reading Apps If an e-book is available at your library, chances are that it offers several platforms, free, that will allow you to read the e-book on your computer or portable device---likewise, no e-reader required. My library does.
  19. Scott, have you posted an announcement about jazztalk.net on this board? (I apologize if it's not okay to link to it here.) Maybe you'd like to take this opportunity to do so or do so again.
  20. From the article linked to in #1: donations and poster purchases R.I.P.
  21. You mean this one? "Martial Solal Plays Michel Magne." The back cover calls it Electrodes (plural), which I'd guess is correct. [Edit, much later: changed the URL (link address), hoping that this one will stay alive.] Three tracks from it on YouTube: Electrodes Air Liquide Poignée De Ciel
  22. Is a used LP from Europe okay? If so, have you checked on whether it's still available from this seller . . . http://www.discogs.c...0?ev=bp_rel_det . . . or the other sellers here?
  23. http://DoTheMath.typepad.com/ But I don't see contact info. I guess you could e-mail Iverson C/O management for The Bad Plus--- hello@dof3.com
